Book The Usefulness of the Kantian Philosophy

Download or read book The Usefulness of the Kantian Philosophy written by Karianne J. Marx and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of Karl Leonhard Reinhold (1757–1823) were a major factor in the development of post-Kantian philosophy, yet his exact contribution is still under discussion. This book investigates how Reinhold’s background in Enlightenment influenced his reception of Kant‌’s critical philosophy. From his pre-Kantian efforts up to the point where he began distancing himself from the master, Reinhold’s own philosophical development takes center stage. This development, rather than critical philosophy, was the main ingredient of Reinhold’s contribution to post-Kantian philosophy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Kant had never made the "critical turn" of 1773, would he be worth more than a paragraph in the history of philosophy? Most scholars think not. But this text challenges that view by revealing a precritical Kant who was immensely more influential than the one philosophers think they know.

Book Kant s Critique of Spinoza

Download or read book Kant s Critique of Spinoza written by Omri Boehm and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contemporary philosophers frequently assume that Kant never seriously engaged with Spinoza or Spinozism-certainly not before the break of Der Pantheismusstreit, or within the Critique of Pure Reason. Offering an alternative reading of key pre-critical texts and to some of the Critique's most central chapters, Omri Boehm challenges this common assumption. He argues that Kant not only is committed to Spinozism in early essays such as "The One Possible Basis" and "New Elucidation," but also takes up Spinozist metaphysics as Transcendental Realism's most consistent form in the Critique of Pure Reason. The success -- or failure -- of Kant's critical projects must be evaluated in this light. Boehm here examines The Antinomies alongside Spinoza's Substance Monism and his theory of freedom. Similarly, he analyzes the refutation of the Ontological Argument in parallel with Spinoza's Causa-sui. More generally, Boehm places the Critique of Pure Reason's separation of Thought from Being and Is from Ought in dialogue with the Ethics' collapse of Being, Is and Ought into Thought.

Book The Fate of Reason

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frederick C. Beiser
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2009-07-01
  • ISBN : 0674261976
  • Pages : 411 pages

Download or read book The Fate of Reason written by Frederick C. Beiser and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fate of Reason is the first general history devoted to the period between Kant and Fichte, one of the most revolutionary and fertile in modern philosophy. The philosophers of this time broke with the two central tenets of the modern Cartesian tradition: the authority of reason and the primacy of epistemology. They also witnessed the decline of the Aufklärung, the completion of Kant’s philosophy, and the beginnings of post-Kantian idealism. Thanks to Frederick C. Beiser we can newly appreciate the influence of Kant’s critics on the development of his philosophy. Beiser brings the controversies, and the personalities who engaged in them, to life and tells a story that has uncanny parallels with the debates of the present.

Book Kant und das Problem der Analogie

Download or read book Kant und das Problem der Analogie written by Takeda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Cambridge Companion to German Idealism

Download or read book The Cambridge Companion to German Idealism written by Karl Ameriks and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated edition offers a comprehensive, penetrating, and informative guide to what is regarded as the classical period of German philosophy. Kant, Fichte, Hegel, and Schelling are all discussed in detail, along with contemporaries such as Hölderlin, Novalis, and Schopenhauer, whose influence was considerable but whose work is less well known in the English-speaking world. Leading scholars trace and explore the unifying themes of German Idealism and discuss its relationship to Romanticism, the Enlightenment, and the culture of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Europe. This second edition offers an updated bibliography and includes three entirely new chapters, which address aesthetic reflection and human nature, the chemical revolution after Kant, and organism and system in German Idealism. The result is an illuminating overview of a rich and complex philosophical movement, and will appeal to a wide range of interested readers in philosophy, literature, theology, German studies, and the history of ideas.

Book Kant A Biography

Download or read book Kant A Biography written by Manfred Kuehn and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-03-19 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first full-length biography in more than fifty years of Immanuel Kant, one of the giants amongst the pantheon of Western philosophers as well as the one with the most powerful and broad influence on contemporary philosophy. It is well known that Kant spent his entire life in an isolated part of Prussia living the life of a typical university professor. This has given rise to the view that Kant was a pure thinker with no life of his own, or at least none worth considering seriously. In this biography, Manfred Kuehn debunks that myth once and for all. Taking account of the most recent scholarship Professor Kuehn allows the reader (whether interested in philosophy, history, politics, German culture, or religion) to follow the same journey that Kant himself took in emerging as a central figure in modern philosophy.
