Book excerpt: Bridging the GAAP: Recent Advances in Finance and Accounting lies at the intersection of the two disciplines. The readings in this volume bridge the gap between finance and accounting by looking at diverse topics in accounting and finance and by providing interesting points of view regarding their interface. Most of the chapters concentrate on the topic of fair value accounting and on the extent to which accounting numbers mirror the financial situation of the firm. This book combines new developments in the areas of theoretical and empirical finance and accounting, and emphasizes the convergence of these two disciplines to better serve researchers, investors and the general public. The papers contained in this volume will help scholars, practitioners and investors better understand the similarities and differences between these two important fields of study.

Told against the backdrop of a series of his own leadership experiences, Obenson offers a set of principles that enable leaders to achieve strategic goals. Using the power of stories spanning nearly two decades of leading change within his community and an international organization, Obenson challenges readers to think differently and focus on opportunities over challenges. By doing this and following the key principles laid out in the book, you will become a leader able to change the world.

Book The Money Bridge How To Fill The Gaps Between Financial Struggle And Financial Freedom

Download or read book The Money Bridge How To Fill The Gaps Between Financial Struggle And Financial Freedom written by Chris Diamond and published by Chris Diamond. This book was released on 2012 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's the "money bridge?" There's usually a gap between financial struggle and financial freedom. In order to overcome this gap between both, you need a "money bridge" in order to achieve your financial independence. This is the foundation of money management. Imagine a chasm or a gorge. The gap between the two rocky walls represents financial troubles (such as: bad debt, not enough money, foreclosures, etc.). On the left rock, you have financial struggle, and on the other side (the right rocky wall), you have financial freedom. You need a bridge in order to cross over and get to the other side of the chasm. The question is, "On which side you want to be in?" If you are on the financial freedom side, probably this money report won't be interesting for you. If you are on the financial struggle side, it's a must! You are going to learn how to build this "money bridge" in order to meet your financial goals. Counter-intuitively, money does not make you rich. It's something else that makes you rich where not many people really talk about. I am going to share it in this money report. Today, financial education is critical, because we live in a new economy. Things that worked before are no longer relevant. In fact, something that worked before can even work against you these days. You are about to learn what they are and what to do about it. Furthermore, you'll learn what controls your financial future, because there's a "mechanism" inside of us that makes us poor - causing us to struggle financially. You'll learn how to deal with this mechanism and what to do instead. Then, I am going to reveal some "money secrets" and what you need to know in order to ensure a stable financial future. Book Survey Research in Corporate Finance

Download or read book Survey Research in Corporate Finance written by H. Kent Baker and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-19 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As there is no current book that deals extensively or exclusively with survey research in corporate finance Survey Research in Corporate Finance is the only one of its kind. For even while there are numerous books on survey methodology, none focus on this methodology as specifically applied to corporate finance. In the book, Baker, Singleton, and Velt do nothing less than provide an overview of survey methodology useful to financial researchers, synthesize the major streams or clusters of survey research in corporate finance, and offer a valuable resource and guide for those interested in conducting survey research in finance. Thus this volume will be an essential reference for practitioners, academics, and graduate students - who all must know the methodology of finance survey research. In addition to methodology, the book identifies areas that will be best served by survey-based research. Researchers will have a wealth of information regarding past surveys and will be aware of suitable candidates for future surveys. Several chapters are devoted to synthesizing survey results on major issues in finance. These will help decision makers in finance and in non-finance firms to acquire knowledge learned from years of communications between academics and practitioners.

Book The Global Findex Database 2017

Download or read book The Global Findex Database 2017 written by Asli Demirguc-Kunt and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2011 the World Bank—with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation—launched the Global Findex database, the world's most comprehensive data set on how adults save, borrow, make payments, and manage risk. Drawing on survey data collected in collaboration with Gallup, Inc., the Global Findex database covers more than 140 economies around the world. The initial survey round was followed by a second one in 2014 and by a third in 2017. Compiled using nationally representative surveys of more than 150,000 adults age 15 and above in over 140 economies, The Global Findex Database 2017: Measuring Financial Inclusion and the Fintech Revolution includes updated indicators on access to and use of formal and informal financial services. It has additional data on the use of financial technology (or fintech), including the use of mobile phones and the Internet to conduct financial transactions. The data reveal opportunities to expand access to financial services among people who do not have an account—the unbanked—as well as to promote greater use of digital financial services among those who do have an account. The Global Findex database has become a mainstay of global efforts to promote financial inclusion. In addition to being widely cited by scholars and development practitioners, Global Findex data are used to track progress toward the World Bank goal of Universal Financial Access by 2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The database, the full text of the report, and the underlying country-level data for all figures—along with the questionnaire, the survey methodology, and other relevant materials—are available at www.worldbank.org/globalfindex.

Book Bridging the Values Gap

Download or read book Bridging the Values Gap written by R. Edward Freeman and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2015-08-17 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the Values Gap Business has a values problem. It's not just spectacular public scandals like Enron (which, incidentally, had a great corporate values statement). Many companies fail to live up to the standards they set for themselves, alienating the public and leaving employees cynical and disengaged—resulting in lower productivity, less innovation, and sometimes outright corruption. The reason, argue top scholars and consultants Edward Freeman and Ellen Auster, is that all too often values are handed down from on high, with little employee input, discussion, or connection to the challenges and opportunities facing the organization. Although the words may be well-intentioned, they aren't reflected in the everyday practices, policies, and processes of the organization. This practically invites disconnects between intention and reality. To bridge this gap between the “talk” and the “walk”, Freeman and Auster provide a process through which organizations can collectively surface deeply held values that truly resonate with everyone, from top to bottom. Their Values Through Conversation (VTC) process focuses on four key types of values conversations: introspective (reflecting on ourselves and how we do things in the organization), historical (exploring our understanding of our past and how it impacts us), connectedness (creating a strong community where we work well together), and aspirational (sharing our hopes and dreams). By developing values through discussions—casual or formal, one-on-one or in groups—VTC ensures that values are dynamic and evolving, not static words on a wall or a website. Freeman and Auster offer advice, real-world examples, and sample questions to help you create values that are authentic and embraced because they are rooted in the lived experience of the organization.

Book Bridging the Wealth Gap in America

Download or read book Bridging the Wealth Gap in America written by Daniel Magee and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-08-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the land of opportunity, where dreams are said to come true, there is still a major contrast between the haves and the have-nots. This is a story of America, a nation grappling with a problem that has persisted for generations-the noticeable gap in financial security. It is a multifaceted issue that touches the lives of millions, trapping individuals and families in a cycle of poverty while opening up the gates of opportunity for others. But the time has come for change. It is time to challenge the status quo and seek new solutions to bridge this deep divide. In this ebook, we will explore the complex dynamics of the wealth gap in America and unravel the habits and conditioning that perpetuate the poverty syndrome. We will dare to see another possibility. The possibility that comes with knowledge, training and wealth principles that will push every household to the status of sound financial securit y. 1-Only in America It's 5 pm on a Tuesday and I am stuck in traffic heading home from work when my friend decides to scan the radio station. I'm sure he was looking for some hip hop and R&B when suddenly I hear that country song by Brooks and Dunn "Only in America." "Everybody gets a chance and we all get to dance" The song was not on long but the words temporarily lingered in my head. I began to ask myself, Is that true? And if it is, is there a level playing ground when it comes to acquiring the American dream? To give credence to the song, it says you can come from anywhere trying to get somewhere. You've got a chance. You might win and you might not. I just went on with my thoughts and said only in America. An immigrant can receive paid housing, education and business grants while working class Americans can struggle to pay rent, start a business and put food on the table. Only in America one can pass down a billion dollar empire while another is lucky his funeral expenses are fully covered. Only in America can a last name make you an instant board member, an approved job candidate or blacklisted kid that's about to get the book thrown at him. That's when it hit me. "There's a wealth gap somewhere". Now that I have your attention, let me tell you why I have written this book. Some may think I plan to belabor and complain about the social financial, and cultural disadvantages that exist between certain classes of society. And if we are truthful, there are both social advantages and disadvantages in the financial structure of America. However, I am from the school of thought that says complaining and lamenting usually leads you back square one. This book is written to uncover the contributing factors that create this social construct in an effort to raise the social and financial status of every household. Take for example, all knowledge is good for understanding and once it is revealed, we can implement the tools to reshape our financial destiny. I would therefore say that there are wisdom keys to be found in this book. (Proverbs 4:7) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all of thy getting, get understanding. The ability to know what you have not known, and do what you have not done comes when we are ready to close the the gap and possess every man or woman's rightful inheritance in this land. 2-Something has to Change I like promises, don't you? Especially the kept ones. That's why I serve the living God who cannot deny his word. He says,"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that I have spoken." The issue with promises is that they are not always kept. This can lead to great emotional damage and financial loss. I'm reminded of a promise that was made by the US government around a century and a half ago. The civil war was coming to an end and so was the slavery built economy. There was a promise given to the newly freed men signed by President Lincoln himself
