Book Alternate Load Factor autostress Design

Download or read book Alternate Load Factor autostress Design written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alternate Load Factor (Autostress) Design is a limit-states design of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) that was adopted in 1986 in the form of a guide specification for the design of continuous steel-beam bridges using braced compact sections. This approach introduces the inelastic-design concepts of shakedown at overload and mechanism analysis at maximum load in order to approximate more closely the way a continuous structure actually behaves at higher load levels. As a result, a designer has more freedom to choose the distribution of material along the length of a member and thereby to minimize fabrication costs. The guide specification can be used for the economical design of steel bridges using braced compact rolled- or welded-beam sections in continuous spans up to about 130 feet. As part of an ongoing research effort to extend inelastic-design procedures to longer-span girders, a new unified analysis approach was developed that can be applied throughout all the span ranges. The unified approach can be applied to determine moments and corresponding plastic rotations at both overload and maximum load. The approach is founded on classical indeterminate analysis theory and is readily adaptable to computer programming. By effectively reducing costs and representing actual behaviour more closely, the Alternate Load Factor procedures have the potential to influence the next generation of continuous steel-bridge designs markedly. For the covering abstract of the Conference see IRRD Abstract No. 807839.

Book Infrastructure Management and Construction

Download or read book Infrastructure Management and Construction written by Samad M.E. Sepasgozar and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-05-06 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers topics relevant to the concept of infrastructure construction, including key requirements of development such as measuring productivity and maintenance. It presents different categories of sustainability maintenance of critical infrastructures. In addition, it presents a complex simulation model, the reconfiguration simulator, which enables evaluation of the effectiveness of resilience enhancement strategies for electric distribution networks and the required resources to implement them. Then, it discusses health services as a critical sector in this field, which should be able to perform its function, even in times of crisis. The last chapter presents a brief review of different bridges, including the processes of design, material selection, construction, and maintenance.

Book Innovative and Economical Steel Bridge Design Alternatives for Colorado

Download or read book Innovative and Economical Steel Bridge Design Alternatives for Colorado written by Robert Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of Simple Made Continuous bridges currently in use are constructed with concrete diaphragms. This report presents the results of numerical analysis and laboratory testing of an alternative simple-made-continuous connection scheme that uses steel diaphragms in lieu of concrete diaphragms. A bridge using steel diaphragms was constructed by the Colorado Department of Transportation in 2005 serves as a basis for the research presented herein. Preliminary analysis discovered potential design flaws in the current bridge connection. This bridge should be inspected and retrofitted based on the results of the physical test. Steel diaphragms are a promising alternative for future SMC bridges and the design guidance provided in this report can be used to create better bridge designs.

Book Bridge Aesthetics Around the World

Download or read book Bridge Aesthetics Around the World written by and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1991 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents the perspectives and insights of the world's present-day authorities on bridge aesthetics and design. Bridge engineers and architects representing 16 nations examine and highlight the aesthetic appearance of existing bridges with the goal of improving tomorrow's bridge design. Supplementing the individual papers is a comprehensive bibliography on bridge aesthetics, containing annotated references to more than 250 books, papers, and articles. There are 245 black-and-white photographs and numerous line drawings plus 24 pages of color plates. Author biographical information is provided and an index of bridges and locations is included. Individual entries into the TRIS data base have been made for the 22 papers and the bibliography.
