Primero se han traducido palabra por palabra (precedidas de asterisco), a�adiendo en caso necesario una par�frasis m�s comprensible en espa�ol, y luego se ha a�adido una definici�n objetiva en t�rminos no metaf�ricos (tambi�n en espa�ol), a veces acompa�ada de equivalentes fraseol�gicos (totales o parciales). Es sabido que la fraseolog�a construye una gran dificultad en la ense�anza de una lengua extranjera, hasta el punto de considerarse como un hueso duro de roer. En el caso de la pareja chino-espa�ol, cabe mencionar que en China hay numerosos diccionarios o compilaciones de unidades fraseol�gicas, sin embargo, la gran mayor�a de ellos son monoling�es y escritos de una forma dif�cilmente accesible para los aprendices extranjeros. Se requieren con urgencia diccionarios fraseol�gicos para la pareja chino-espa�ol. Dicho esto, esperamos que este breve diccionario resulte tambi�n �til para frase�logos, sin�logos, hispanistas, traduct�logos, tip�logos y ling�istas generalistas, as� como para los expertos en did�ctica de las lenguas china y espa�ola.

Regime change had come on a global scale: across Asia (including China, Korea, Indochina, and the Philippines, and of course Japan) and all of continental Europe. Out of the often vicious power struggles that ensued emerged the modern world as we know it. In human terms, the scale of transformation is almost impossible to imagine. Great cities around the world lay in ruins, their populations decimated, displaced, starving. Harsh revenge was meted out on a wide scale, and the ground was laid for much horror to come. At the same time, in the wake of unspeakable loss, the euphoria of the liberated was extraordinary, and the revelry unprecedented. The postwar years gave rise to the European welfare state, the United Nations, decolonization, Japanese pacifism, and the European Union. Social, cultural, and political “reeducation” was imposed on vanquished by victors on a scale that also had no historical precedent. Much that was done was ill advised, but in hindsight, as Ian Buruma shows us, these efforts were in fact relatively enlightened, humane, and effective. A poignant grace note throughout this history is Buruma’s own father’s story. Seized by the Nazis during the occupation of Holland, he spent much of the war in Berlin as a laborer, and by war’s end was literally hiding in the rubble of a flattened city, having barely managed to survive starvation rations, Allied bombing, and Soviet shock troops when the end came. His journey home and attempted reentry into “normalcy” stand in many ways for his generation’s experience. A work of enormous range and stirring human drama, conjuring both the Asian and European theaters with equal fluency, Year Zero is a book that Ian Buruma is perhaps uniquely positioned to write. It is surely his masterpiece.

Although the inferences at work in the processing of normal, non-humorous discourses are the same as those employed in the interpretation of humour, in the latter case these strategies (and also the accessibility of contextual information) are predicted and manipulated by the speaker (or writer) for the sake of generating humorous effects. The book covers aspects of research on humour such as the incongruity-resolution pattern, jokes and stand-up comedy performances. It also offers an explanation of why ironies are sometimes labelled as humorous, and proposes a model for the translation of humorous discourses, an analysis of humour in multimodal discourses such as cartoons and advertisements, and a brief exploration of possible tendencies in relevance-theoretic research on conversational humour.
