Book The Distribution of Breeding Birds in Ontario Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Distribution of Breeding Birds in Ontario Classic Reprint written by James Little Baillie Jr and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Distribution of Breeding Birds in Ontario Excellent local lists and other valuable avifaunal records have been published, however, especially during more recent years, of the birds of certain localities within the province. Although many of these accounts (for example those published by Snyder from the regions of Lake Nipi Lake King township, and Long point) contain information from previously unknown regions ornithologically, they have appeared in a variety of publications, making it virtually impossible to obtain definite distributional information without a laborious search of the literature. The authors have attempted to bring together these scattered writings on Ontario birds and as a result there is on file at the Royal Ontario Museum of Zoology an index to the literature pertaining to the ornithology of the province which is gradually nearing completion. This bibliography was commenced by J. L. Baillie in 1924 and already there are more than ten thousand specific cards on file from upwards of one thousand titles. These records form the basis of the present account and those to which we have referred will be found in the list of literature cited. Book Birds of Ontario Habitat Requirements Limiting Factors and Status

Download or read book Birds of Ontario Habitat Requirements Limiting Factors and Status written by Al Sandilands and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volumes in the Birds of Ontario series summarize life history requirements of bird species that are normally part of the ecology of Ontario. This is the second volume in the series and completes the treatment of the nonpasserine bird species occurring in Ontario on a regular basis. Information on habitat, limiting factors, and status is summarized for 83 species in this volume. These topics are covered for the three primary avian seasons: breeding, migration, and winter. Habitat, nest sites, territoriality, site fidelity, annual reproductive effort, habitat loss and degradation, environmental contaminants, and a variety of other topics are covered in the species accounts. Maps depicting breeding and wintering range are presented for most species along with drawings by Ross James. Birds of Ontario is an essential reference source for wildlife biologists, environmental consultants, and planners preparing or reviewing environmental impact statements and environmental assessments. Serious birders will find the volumes of interest as well. Although the books focus on Ontario birds, the information is highly relevant to adjacent provinces and states.
