Book Rape in the Nordic Countries

Download or read book Rape in the Nordic Countries written by Marie Bruvik Heinskou and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Open Access version of this book, available at http://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/e/9780429467608, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license. While the Nordic countries are listed at the top in most international rankings of gender equality and citizens’ feelings of security, studies on the prevalence of sexual victimisation present a different picture, suggesting that the very countries that have invested much in establishing gender equality actually see a high prevalence of sexual violence. This book sheds light on the phenomenon and construction of rape and other forms of sexual violence within the Nordic region, exploring the ways in which rape and sexual violence are dealt with through criminal law and considering governmental policies aimed at combatting it, with a special focus on legal regulations and developments. Thematically organised, it offers new research on perpetrators, victimhood, criminal justice and prevention. Multi-disciplinary in approach, it brings together the latest work from a range of scholars to offer insights into the situation in the five Nordic countries, asking how and why rape and other forms of sexual violence occur, whilst also addressing the timely issues of online sexual cultures, BDSM and the grey areas of sexual offences. As such, it will appeal to scholars of sociology, criminology and law with interests in gender and sexual violence.

Book Break the silence on domestic violence

Download or read book Break the silence on domestic violence written by Sylvie Affholder and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In present-day Europe, thousands of women have to cope every day with acts of physical, sexual or psychological violence, even in their own homes. “It starts with screams and must never end in silence”. Preventing domestic violence against women concerns us all, men and women alike, and we all have a duty to break the silence. In an exhibition staged in connection with the Council of Europe's campaign to "Stop domestic violence against women" (2006-2008), the photographer, Sandro Weltin, presents us with different faces and perspectives - those of parliamentarians, local and regional representatives, representatives of non-governmental organisations and field workers who play an active part in measures to combat domestic violence, but above all those of the victims themselves, who will always be the focal point of this people's cause.

Book The Shattering II

Download or read book The Shattering II written by Marsha Barth and published by Robert Reed Publishers. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Shattering II is a compelling true story (but written in novel form) of healing from childhood sexual abuse. It is a story of the power of love, the promise of hope, and the inspiration of knowing that we are not defined by our circumstances. Readers are held in suspense and will find their hearts forever touched by this inspiring story. Healing is a journey. If we can be brave enough to enter into the dark shadows of the unspeakable and pull back the shades, we not only reveal the light, but captives are set free. It is God's desire to take us from lost to found, from death to life, from victim to victor. As Barth's first book, THE SHATTERING I, this book is beautifully written. As Toni Stewart wrote on Amazon, She deftly explores the generational aspects of abuse in families and the inclination of adults in our society to turn a blind eye or "let it go." The true artistry of this story is how openly Marsha is able to explore the hearts and minds of each character making the reader truly care about each person involved, even Julie's tortured father, Ron.

Book Ending the Silence

Download or read book Ending the Silence written by Ron Thorne-Finch and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the causes of male violence against women, and places the issue in a political context. It argues that men's emotional, physical, and sexual violence are linked : to end violence we must address the role of a wide range of actors - the family, media, the schools, sport, etc. - in creating violent men. Changes are unlikely to occur unless more men take individual and collective responsibility for male violence. While acknowledging that the women's movement has played a pivotal role in breaking the silence about male violence, and in providing the political pressure for state funding for victim and offender programs, the book rejects the notion that male violence be seen as 'just' a women's issue.
