Besides, there are new regional leaders, like China, Brazil, India, and Russia. I will pay special attention to the first two, particularly their policies against poverty and inequality. The comparison between these countries, in concrete Brazil and China is very interesting, since we can see how different capitalist models are facing evident problems: strong economic growth, millions of poor and corruption. Besides, in the case of China, we are talking about a communist dictatorship with capitalist areas. To begin with I am going to do a short description about the current economic crisis, where I will discuss some ideas considering the different situation between developed and non-developed countries. To analyze the fight against poverty it is important to understand the scenario that surrounds us. Later on I will point out some political questions about the idea that current world is changing the global arena settled after the fall of the USRR. Concluding this section I will introduce to two of the new winners, Brazil and China, and their exclusive club: BRIC with the idea of describe how are these poor countries facing the problem of the poverty. The questions that I am going to answer are How are Brazil and China facing the poverty? What are the priorities of their governments?

Although the relationship is young, both countries have developed a remarkable business in the 21. Century. In 2009 China has become the largest commercial partner of Brazil. Yet the relationship does not only show it`s good sides, actually there are tensions in the relationship. Due to cheap Chinese imports, the Brazilian industry has is struggling with unemployment partly caused by Chinese low cost production. Besides that the economical relationship is quite asymmetric, as Brazil does mainly export basic raw materials and agricultural products and receives in return industrial and technological goods. It is interesting to recognize the behavior of politicians and industrial leaders due to their competition on one hand and their relationship on the other. This is why Brazil`s and China`s relationship is an interesting topic for research. Book excerpt: In Mandarin Brazil, Ana Paulina Lee explores the centrality of Chinese exclusion to the Brazilian nation-building project, tracing the role of cultural representation in producing racialized national categories. Lee considers depictions of Chineseness in Brazilian popular music, literature, and visual culture, as well as archival documents and Brazilian and Qing dynasty diplomatic correspondence about opening trade and immigration routes between Brazil and China. In so doing, she reveals how Asian racialization helped to shape Brazil's image as a racial democracy. Mandarin Brazil begins during the second half of the nineteenth century, during the transitional period when enslaved labor became unfree labor—an era when black slavery shifted to "yellow labor" and racial anxieties surged. Lee asks how colonial paradigms of racial labor became a part of Brazil's nation-building project, which prioritized "whitening," a fundamentally white supremacist ideology that intertwined the colonial racial caste system with new immigration labor schemes. By considering why Chinese laborers were excluded from Brazilian nation-building efforts while Japanese migrants were welcomed, Lee interrogates how Chinese and Japanese imperial ambitions and Asian ethnic supremacy reinforced Brazil's whitening project. Mandarin Brazil contributes to a new conversation in Latin American and Asian American cultural studies, one that considers Asian diasporic histories and racial formation across the Americas.

Book excerpt: To shed some light on the possibilities and limits of meaningful coalitions among emerging countries, this paper focuses on Brazil-China relations. Three main topics present a puzzle: trade relations, the political-strategic realm, and foreign direct investment. This paper develops a comparative assessment between the two countries in those areas, and identifies the extent to which the two emerging powers should be understood as partners and/or competitors. Data was collected, not only on these three aspects, but also on the governance structure and institutional safeguards in place in both China and Brazil. The analysis suggests that, even with advantageous trade relations, there is a pattern of growing imbalances and asymmetries in trade flows that are more favorable to China than Brazil. Therefore, Brazil and China are bound to be competitors, but it is not clear how bilateral imbalances may affect multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
