Grundlegende Überlegungen zu dem Thema „Kulturschock“ bei Migrantinnen Laut der Ottawa- Charta der WHO gelten MigrantInnen als „verletzliche Gruppe“, denen eine besondere Priorität in Public Health- Strategien einzuräumen ist.(1) Woher kommt diese besondere „Verletzlichkeit“, wie können wir als Pflegende damit umgehen und wie können wir mit Empathie auf die jeweiligen Situationen im interkulturellen Kommunikationskontext eingehen? Innerhalb dieser ohnehin als vulnerabel eingestuften Gruppe, nehmen die Frauen eine traurige Vormachtstellung ein, denn Untersuchungen zeigen, dass Frauen im Migrationsprozess ein noch schwerwiegenderes Erkrankungsrisiko zeigen als Männer, vor allem im psychischen und im psychosomatischen Bereich. Die migrantensensible Gesundheitsforschung steckt noch in den Anfängen daher gibt es über die Bevölkerungsgruppe der Migrantinnen noch nicht sehr viel aussagekräftiges Datenmaterial. Die Lebenswelten von MigrantInnen und die gesundheitliche Lage sind dabei wesentlich auch immer durch die Kategorie Geschlecht bestimmt. Die sich aus den Vorbedingungen ergebende zentrale erste Frage lautet: „Brauchen Migrantinnen eine andere Pflege?“ MigrantInnen sind oft nicht ausreichend über das deutsche Gesundheitssystem und seine Angebote informiert. Durch etliche Rückzugstrategien oder eine insgesamt schlechtere Integration in die Aufnahmekultur, bleiben die Frauen – insbesondere von traditionell orientierten Gesellschaften außen vor und sind nicht ausreichend über unser Gesundheitssystem informiert. Aufgrund sprachlicher und kultureller Barrieren nehmen sie Gesundheitsangebote weniger in Anspruch, mit der Folge, dass es zu Fehl- oder Unterversorgung kommen kann. Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zur Gesundheit, zur Sicherheit und zur allgemeinen Lebenssituation von Frauen in Deutschland zeigen, dass ein hoher Prozentsatz von Migrantinnen ihren allgemeinen Gesundheitszustand als eher negativ beurteilt. Book excerpt: Anthropologists have written a great deal about the coastal adaptations and seafaring traditions of Pacific Islanders, but have had much less to say about the significance of rivers for Pacific island culture, livelihood and identity. The authors of this collection seek to fill that gap in the ethnographic record by drawing attention to the deep historical attachments of island communities to rivers, and the ways in which those attachments are changing in response to various forms of economic development and social change. In addition to making a unique contribution to Pacific island ethnography, the authors of this volume speak to a global set of issues of immense importance to a world in which water scarcity, conflict, pollution and the degradation of riparian environments afflict growing numbers of people. Several authors take a political ecology approach to their topic, but the emphasis here is less on hydro-politics than on the cultural meaning of rivers to the communities we describe. How has the cultural significance of rivers shifted as a result of colonisation, development and nation-building? How do people whose identities are fundamentally rooted in their relationship to a particular river renegotiate that relationship when the river is dammed to generate hydro-power or polluted by mining activities? How do blockages in the flow of rivers and underground springs interrupt the intergenerational transmission of local ecological knowledge and hence the ability of local communities to construct collective identities rooted in a sense of place?

Accordingly, a contradiction-inducing hence semantically problematic part of literally coded meaning is locally ignored and systematically realized "expatriately" with respect to parts of structure that achieve the indexical anchoring of propositional contents in terms of times, worlds and standards of comparison, thus yielding the observed hidden meanings.

The comparative perspective was limited to the US Federal sentencing guidelines. The intention of this volume is therefore, on the one hand, to draw a more nuanced picture of Anglo-American sentencing law focusing on three legal systems (England/Wales, USA and Canada) accompanied by commentaries from a German perspective; on the other hand, we want to make the German perspective (better) known within the Anglo-American legal world by reproducing important DJT documents in English language. To ensure the widest possible distribution we opted for a bilingual open access publication.

Book excerpt: Political and scientific debates on migration policies have mostly focused on governments' efforts to control or reduce low-skilled, asylum, and irregular migration or to encourage the return migration of these categories. Less research and constructive discourse has been conducted on the role and effectiveness of policies to attract or retain high-skilled workers. An improved understanding of the drivers and dynamics of high-skilled migration is essential for effective policy-making, as most highly developed and emerging economies experience growing shortages of high-skilled labour supply in certain occupations and sectors, and skilled immigration is often viewed as one way of addressing these. Simplistic assumptions that high-skilled migrants are primarily in pursuit of higher wages raise the expectation that policies which open channels for high-skilled immigration are generally successful. Although many countries have introduced policies aimed at attracting and facilitating the recruitment of high-skilled workers, not all recruitment efforts have had the desired effects, and anecdotal evidence on the effectiveness of these programmes is rather mixed. The reason is that the rather narrow focus on migration policy coincides with a lack of systematic and rigorous consideration of other economic, social, and political drivers of migration, which may be equally - or sometimes even more - important than migration policies per se. A better understanding of migration policies, their making, consequences and limitations, requires a systematic knowledge of the broader economic, social and political structures and their interaction in both origin and destination countries. This book enhances this vibrant field of social scientific enquiry by providing a systematic, multidisciplinary, and global analysis of policies driving international high-skilled migration processes in their interaction with other migration drivers at the individual, city, national, and international level.
