Book excerpt: This book, compiled from basic Hindu writings, is an exploration of the essential meaning of the Hindu tradition, the way of thinking and acting that has dominated life in India for the last three thousand years. Selections from religious, literary and philosophic works are preceded by introductory material that summarizes historical developments and cultural movements. While much attention is given to religion, many selections deal with social life, political relationships, and the Indian attitude to human love and passion. The arrangement of the material suggests the growth and development of Indian life through the centuries, and makes clear that Indian culture has never been static, but rather has been characterized at all times by a remarkable vitality and creativity. The selections range in time from the Rig Veda, composed around 1000 B.C., to the writings of Radhakrishnan, formerly the President of India. They illustrate both the continuity of the Hindu tradition and its vitality, for Hinduism is probably more vibrant and alive at the present time than it has been for many centuries. The ideals and values, the unquestioned assumptions and the persistent doubts that are presented here from the literature of the past are the fundamental ingredients of the life of modern India.

Book A SEARCH IN SECRET SACRED HINDUISM

Download or read book A SEARCH IN SECRET SACRED HINDUISM written by t.s.viswanathan and published by SUBRAMANIAM BROTHERS PRIVATE LTD. This book was released on 2014-06-16 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction: The purpose of writing the book is to provide a brief idea and knowledge about the various Vedic religious, rituals, practices, science, mathematics, beliefs prevalent in Hinduism. In short, to reveal the secrets of Hinduism. In India one should know that there were the intellectuals like rishis and saints and also tribals. The rishis and seers gave the written form of Vedas, Vedangas, languages, sciences, and all forms of knowledge. Sages and seers developed all faculties for Human knowledge, right from medicine to maths, philosophy, physics, astronomy and so on. The concept of re incarnation was one of the highest secrets of Hinduism and followed subsequently by other eastern religions.Though all were in pure Sanskrit it formed the base for the entire world to accelerate their development in all spheres of life. These were all introduced by seers in India through spirituality obtained from incessant meditation. The core practice is meditation. Since tribals living in India were accepted into the Hindu fold their practice still continues though reforms by Shankaracharya had its impact. These tribal practices were commonly criticized as a practice of Hinduism by westerners and other foreigners which is not true. Hinduism allowed their system also to flourish without much intervention. This book shall serve as an eye opener to all especially the younger generation who in the midst of their busy work may not have sufficient time to go deep into the Vedas and realize them. In whatever permissible context I have quoted the relevant portions of the Vedas and other texts to substantiate the authority of the writing. This book has also been written keeping in mind the innumerable NRI families and other foreigners belonging to various religions and cultures, across the globe, who would like to know about Hinduism and its secrets , and who at the same time have not been much exposed to its vast culture. Attempt has been made to analyse every topic to its semantics and explain to the reader for his understanding. Though India is divided by its language it is united by its culture which is Hinduism. However it must be noted that all Indian languages have their base in Sanskrit. The culture of religion was introduced by those ancient seers through epics, puranas emanating from the Vedas. Thus this culture is being experienced by the people in India called as Hindus. Hinduism has been a very tolerant society and over a period of civilizations has assimilated and welcomed many diverse cultures. Hinduism is not a religion in the strict modern sense, but is a composite culture. People living on the other side of river Sindhu were called as Hindus by the Persians (modern Iran) as they shared a common border with the ancient India (now in the region of West Pakistan). In the ancient Persian language they did not have phonetics or syllable for “sa or saa”, hence instead of being called as Sindhus they called as Hindus. “The swastika the early symbol of Hinduism has been widely found in Neolithic European ruins during the past two centuries of archaeological excavations. This has convinced scholars during Past and present that prehistoric Europeans practiced an early form of Hinduism with high spiritual concepts of eternal soul, transmigration, karma, yoga, the third eye and the Nirvana” says Richard Cassaro, Journalist and speaker. Most of us living in the modern age, especially the younger generation , would not have a holistic idea of the practices, science and technology prevalent in this culture especially from vedic times, and therefore this book is an attempt to impart and reveal in a nutshell of the wide beneficial practices prevalent in this ancient culture for the welfare of Humanity.

Book excerpt: A timeless treatise on what constitutes the Hindu way of life Religion in India can appear to be a confusing tangle of myths, with many different gods and goddesses worshipped in countless forms. This complexity stems from a love of story-telling, as much as anything else, but it is only the surface expression of Indian faith. Here, one of the most profound philosophers of India explains these and other related concepts intrinsic to the Hindu philosophy of life.

Book Hinduism Frequently Asked Questions

Download or read book Hinduism Frequently Asked Questions written by Swami Chinmayananda and published by Central Chinmaya Mission Trust. This book was released on 2013 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hindu culture is founded upon the sacred scriptures such as Vedas, which are revered even today, for they contain revelations of eternal Truth and embody the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Hindu people. The Vedas are the legacy of the rishis and subjective scientists, who touched a deep cord within, far beyond the physical, mental and intellectual layers, which allowed them to see all life as interconnected. They saw the One manifested throughout the universe, making everything sacred to them. When life is honoured and belief in holiness of all life is fostered, one cannot but help acquire a deep sense of reverence for life. Hindu culture has evolved out of this vision. This book provides concise and precise answers to basic questions about Hinduism, unfolding the foundation upon which Hindu culture rests.

Download or read book Hinduism written by Dinesh Chandra and published by Diamond Pocket Books Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2016-03-05 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is, thus, an effort to compile the history, development and the basic tenets of Hinduism which guide the way of life of one fifth of humanity on earth. Effort has been made to include only the basic information that has helped a Hindu to choose a desired path from amongst the many that have been lighted up by Hindu sages to achieve their goal, that of attaining ‘Moksha’ or ‘Mukti’, which means that he or she obtains relief from the cycle of birth and death through good Karmas. This is the central precept of Hinduism. Interaction with people in foreign countries, other than Hindus, reveals that they have little knowledge about Hinduism. It is learnt that British schools have a period or two, in class eight, to deal with all religions which is obviously insufficient to make a child of that age to even understand the actual meaning of the word religion. Hindus who migrated abroad from India at a young age and those who were born abroad, except for Mauritius and Fiji islands where Hindus have lived as a cohesive community for over a century, and those who have continued to maintain their links with their original faith, many have started losing touch with the basics of their religion. Generally, there is a perceptible lack of authentic knowledge about the beginnings of Hindu religion and its evolution over the ages into what it represents today.
