Book Bows and Piccolos

Download or read book Bows and Piccolos written by T. Sunshine and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Grace Dawson and Mason Hamilton meet, sparks fly. Grace meets the love of her life the day he is leaving for basic training. The feeling is mutual and is just as deep for Mason. They write letters to one another, getting to know each other on a whole new intensity and neither knowing this kind of love existed until it was theirs. It’s 1972, and the Vietnam War is still raging on, full of danger and sorrow. Mason promises he’ll be back, and Grace promises she’ll be waiting. But is it a promise Mason can keep? Grace never believed in love at first sight, but she now knows, without a doubt, it’s real. It’s strong, and it’s pure. Her heart will never be the same, and she wouldn’t have it any other way—for true-love stories never end.

However, the Dragon School only takes the most gifted boys and all girls are sent to the Temple to become Priestesses. After being rejected by the school for her gender, Piccolo has a chance encounter with one of the school's Dragon Masters and Piccolo is granted permission to enter the Dragon Mage School, Cor'inthor. Upon entering Cor'inthor, Piccolo is constantly faced with gender prejudices and stinging ridicule from teachers and students, who do not want their traditions to change. Piccolo must continuously decide between allowing her own prejudices to dictate her action or push herself to achieve the higher ground and help those that are mean to her and her friends. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Szell was the Cleveland Orchestra's towering presence for over a quarter of a century. From the boardroom to the stage, Szell's powerful personality affected every aspect of a musical institution he reshaped in his own perfectionist image. Marcia Hansen Kraus's participation in Cleveland's classical musical scene allowed her an intimate view of Szell and his achievements. As a musician herself, and married to an oboist who worked under Szell, Kraus pulls back the curtain on this storied era through fascinating interviews with orchestra musicians and patrons. Their recollections combine with Kraus's own to paint a portrait of a multifaceted individual who both earned and transcended his tyrannical reputation. If some musicians hated Szell, others loved him or at the least respected his fair-minded toughness. A great many remember playing under his difficult leadership as the high point in their lives. Filled with vivid backstage stories, George Szell's Reign reveals the human side of a great orchestra ”and how one visionary built a premier classical music institution.

Book The Routledge Pantomime Reader

Download or read book The Routledge Pantomime Reader written by Jennifer Schacker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Pantomime Reader is the first anthology to document this entertainment genre—one of the most distinctive and ubiquitous in nineteenth-century Britain. Across ten different shows, readers witness pantomime’s development from a highly improvisational venue for clowning, dance, and musical parody to a complex amalgamation of physical and topical comedy, stage wizardry, scenic spectacle, satire, and magical mayhem. Combining well-known tales such as "Cinderella", "Aladdin", and "Jack and the Beanstalk" with the lesser-known plotlines of "Peter Wilkins" and "The Prince of Happy Land", the book demonstrates not only how popular narratives were adapted to the current moment, but also how this blend of high and low entertainment addressed a whole range of social and cultural anxieties. Along with carefully annotated scripts, readers will find detailed introductions to all of the collected pantomimes and supplementary materials such as reviews, reminiscences, and a host of visual materials that bring these neglected entertainments to life. The plays collected here provide a remarkable perspective on the history of sexuality, class, and race during a period of vast imperial expansion and important social upheaval in Britain itself—essential reading for students and scholars of theatre history and popular performance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named a Library Journal Best Reference of 2023 - "Bravo! An invaluable source for scholars and concertgoers.” - Library Journal In the history of the Western musical tradition, the Baroque period traditionally dates from the turn of the 17th century to 1750. The beginning of the period is marked by Italian experiments in composition that attempted to create a new kind of secular musical art based upon principles of Greek drama, quickly leading to the invention of opera. The ending is marked by the death of Johann Sebastian Bach in 1750 and the completion of George Frideric Handel’s last English oratorio, Jephtha, the following year. The Historical Dictionary of Baroque Music, Second Edition contains a chronology, an introduction, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has more than 500 cross-referenced entries on composers, instruments, cities, and technical terms. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about baroque music.
