Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texan born Tom Horn was a notorious bounty hunter during the decades in the closing scene of the nineteenth century and the Old West. A man considered by many to be a hero and by others an assassin. An Army scout who lived off this cash for flesh enterprise. He learned his skills of tracking and speaking the native languages from the Apache tribes. Then he used this same knowledge to kill those very people who had taught him. As he worked farther west and into California Horn encountered his old enemies, Rancor Maleficent and Marshal Hoss Cole. The ever-humorous Roberto Rodriguez brings this unlikely crew together to make a final strike against the violent outlaws of the far West. Once again Ash Lingam gives us a vivid canvas like description of the Old West and the characters who lived, fought and died there. He shows us the hardships and the humor along with a dose of romance and a passel of lead and gun-smoke. (Gunslinger Series #3)

  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Hang Em High written by Bob Herzberg and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than a century the Western film has proven to be an enduring genre. At the dawn of the 20th century, in the same years that The Great Train Robbery begat a film genre, Owen Wister wrote The Virginian, which began a new literary genre. From the beginning, both literature and film would usually perpetuate the myth of the Old West as a place where justice always triumphed and all concerned (except the villains) pursued the Law. The facts, however, reflect abuses of due process: lynch mobs and hired gunslingers rather than lawmen regularly pursued lawbreakers; vengeance rather than justice was often employed; and even in courts of law justice didn't always prevail. Some films and novels bucked this trend, however. This book discusses the many Western films as well as the novels they are based on, that illustrate distortions of the law in the Old West and the many ways, most of them marked by vengeance, in which its characters pursued justice.
