Book Boundary Layer and Flow Control

Download or read book Boundary Layer and Flow Control written by G. V. Lachmann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Layer and Flow Control: Its Principles and Application, Volume 2 focuses on the layer of fluid in the immediate area of a bounding surface where the effects of viscosity are substantial. This book is organized into two main topics—boundary layer control for low drag, and shock-induced separation and its prevention by design and boundary layer control. It specifically discusses the nature of transition, effect of two-dimensional and isolated roughness on laminar flow, and progress in the design of low drag aerofoils. The onset of separation effects for aerofoils and wings, shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers, and shock-induced separation for laminar boundary layers are also deliberated. This volume is recommended to physicists and specialists interested in boundary layer and flow control.

Book Porous Material Development for Boundary Layer Control

Download or read book Porous Material Development for Boundary Layer Control written by G. May and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description is presented of the development of a new porous material that was undertaken specifically for the application of area suction boundary layer control to underwater vehicles. This material was subsequently used in the manufacture of several hydrodynamic test models varying in size from 2 in. to 12 3/4 in. O.D. The small models have been tested and reported to show boundary layer stabilization and the larger models are awaiting tests at the Ordnance Research Laboratory. A unique property of this design has been found in its ability to recover its original porosity with simple back flushing, but more detailed studies would be required to identify the extent of this characteristic. Book Drag Reduction by Shock and Boundary Layer Control

Download or read book Drag Reduction by Shock and Boundary Layer Control written by Egon Stanewsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The survival of the Aeronautical Industries of Europe in the highly competitive World Aviation Market is strongly dependent on such factors as time-to-market of a new or derivative aircraft and on its manufacturing costs but also on the achievement of a competitive technological advantage by which an increased market share can be gained. Recognizing this, cooperative research is continuously encouraged and co-financed by the European Union in order to strengthen the scientific and technological base of the Aeronautical Industries thus providing - among others - the technological edge needed for survival. Corresponding targets of research within Area 3, Technologies for Transport Means, and here in particular Area 3A, Aeronautics Technologies, of the Industrial and Materials Technologies Program ( Brite -EuRam III, 1994 -1998) have been identified to be aircraft efficiency, cost effectiveness and environmental impact. Concerning aircraft efficiency - relevant to the present research - a reduction in aircraft drag of 10%, a reduction in aircraft fuel consumption of 30%, and a reduction in airframe, engine and system weight of 20% are envisaged. Meeting these objectives has, of course, also a strong positive impact on the environment.

Book Study of Boundary layer Flows with Pressure Gradient and Mass Transfer by a Simple Integral Method

Download or read book Study of Boundary layer Flows with Pressure Gradient and Mass Transfer by a Simple Integral Method written by Tse-Fou Zien and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A refined Karman-Pohlhausen method previously generalized by Zien to include the effects of mass transfer is further explored and its application is extended to cases involving both pressure gradients and surface mass transfer. The case with piece-wise suction (or blowing) is also included. The study is restricted to plane, incompressible, laminar boundary layers. Configurations of flat plates and circular cylinders are chosen to illustrate the application of the method. Results are given mainly in terms of skin frictions, and they are presented entirely in closed forms. The calculations for the porous plate case are carried out using rather elaborate velocity profiles, but the results differ negligibly from previous ones with very simple profiles. A linear velocity profile is then used to carry out some exploratory calculations for more complex flows. The method is shown to be a potentially efficient tool for handling the problem of boundary-layer control by means of surface mass transfer. (Author).

Book A Fibrous glass Compact as a Permeable Material for Boundary layer control Applications Using Area Suction

Download or read book A Fibrous glass Compact as a Permeable Material for Boundary layer control Applications Using Area Suction written by Robert E. Dannenberg and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements were made of the resistance of fibrous-glass compacts to normal air flow. The flow resistance was related to the thickness and density. As a porous material for boundary-layer-control applications using area suction, the fibrous-glass compact could be made to any desired thickness and permeability and sandwiched between perforated rigid surfaces.
