Book Boundary Control and Boundary Variations

Download or read book Boundary Control and Boundary Variations written by J. P. Zolésio and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the proceedings of the Working Conference "Boundary variations and boundary control" held in Nice (France), June 10-13, 1986. The aim of this Conference was to stimulate exchange of ideas between the group working on shape optimization (including free boundary problems) and the group working on boundary control of hyperbolic systems (including stabilization). An important remark is that if one considers a dynamical system governed by linear elasticity the choice of Lagrangian coordinates leads to discuss boundary conditions, or boundary control (for example to stabilize), while the choice of Eulerian coordinates lead to a moving boundary and moving domain . This remark challenges us to consider the domain (or its boundary) as a control.

Book Optimal Boundary Control and Boundary Stabilization of Hyperbolic Systems

Download or read book Optimal Boundary Control and Boundary Stabilization of Hyperbolic Systems written by Martin Gugat and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief considers recent results on optimal control and stabilization of systems governed by hyperbolic partial differential equations, specifically those in which the control action takes place at the boundary. The wave equation is used as a typical example of a linear system, through which the author explores initial boundary value problems, concepts of exact controllability, optimal exact control, and boundary stabilization. Nonlinear systems are also covered, with the Korteweg-de Vries and Burgers Equations serving as standard examples. To keep the presentation as accessible as possible, the author uses the case of a system with a state that is defined on a finite space interval, so that there are only two boundary points where the system can be controlled. Graduate and post-graduate students as well as researchers in the field will find this to be an accessible introduction to problems of optimal control and stabilization.

Book Free and Moving Boundaries

Download or read book Free and Moving Boundaries written by Roland Glowinski and published by Chapman and Hall/CRC. This book was released on 2007-06-06 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing algebraic problems found in biomathematics and energy, Free and Moving Boundaries: Analysis, Simulation and Control discusses moving boundary and boundary control in systems described by partial differential equations (PDEs). With contributions from international experts, the book emphasizes numerical and theoretical control of moving boundaries in fluid structure couple systems, arteries, shape stabilization level methods, family of moving geometries, and boundary control. Using numerical analysis, the contributors examine the problems of optimal control theory applied to PDEs arising from continuum mechanics. The book presents several applications to electromagnetic devices, flow, control, computing, images analysis, topological changes, and free boundaries. It specifically focuses on the topics of boundary variation and control, dynamical control of geometry, optimization, free boundary problems, stabilization of structures, controlling fluid-structure devices, electromagnetism 3D, and inverse problems arising in areas such as biomathematics. Free and Moving Boundaries: Analysis, Simulation and Control explains why the boundary control of physical systems can be viewed as a moving boundary control, empowering the future research of select algebraic areas.

Book Control of Boundaries and Stabilization

Download or read book Control of Boundaries and Stabilization written by Jacques Simon and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-02-06 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present proceedings volume is devoted to two subjects. Stabilization with emphasis on exact controllability: considering a physical system, such as a vibrating plate, one can reach a steady state in a finite time by acting on the boundary. Control of boundaries: given a physical system find the geometry of the domain (optimal shape) which minimizes a cost related to the solution of a boundary value problem in this domain, for example find a minimum drag profile. Many lectures included mathematical analysis as well as engineering applications and numerical simulation.

Book Free Boundary Problems Involving Solids

Download or read book Free Boundary Problems Involving Solids written by J M Chadam and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-02-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of three volumes containing the proceedings of the International Colloquium 'Free Boundary Problems: Theory and Applications', held in Montreal from June 13 to June 22, 1990. The main theme of this volume is the concept of free boundary problems associated with solids. The first free boundary problem, the freezing of water - the Stefan problem - is the prototype of solidification problems which form the main part of this volume. The two sections treting this subject cover a large variety of topics and procedures, ranging from a theoretical mathematical treatment of solvability to numerical procedures for practical problems. Some new and interesting problems in solid mechanics are discussed in the first section while in the last section the important new subject of solid-solid-phase transition is examined.
