Book The Winning Ticket

Download or read book The Winning Ticket written by Rob Sand and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2022-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Winning Ticket is an inside look at one of the most complicated yet seat-of-your-pants financial investigations and prosecutions in recent history. Rob Sand, the youngest attorney in his office, was assigned a new case by his boss, who was days away from retirement. Inside the thin accordion binder Sand received was meager evidence that had been gathered over the course of two years by Iowa authorities regarding a suspicious lottery ticket. No one expected the case to go anywhere. No dead body, no shots fired, and no money paid out. Why should they care? There was no certainty that a crime had even been committed. But a mysterious Belizean trust had attempted to claim the $16 million ticket, then decided to forgo the money and maintain anonymity when the State of Iowa demanded to know who had purchased the ticket. Who values anonymity over that much money? Both a story of small-town America and a true-crime saga about the largest lottery-rigging scheme in American history, The Winning Ticket follows the investigation all the way down the rabbit hole to uncover how Eddie Tipton was able to cheat the system to win jackpots over $16 million and go more than a decade without being caught—until Sand inherited the case. Just as remarkable as the crime are the real-life characters met along the way: an honest fireworks salesman, a hoodwinked FBI agent, a crooked Texas lawman, a shady attorney representing a Belizean trust, and, yes, Bigfoot hunters. While some of the characters are nearly unbelievable, the everyday themes of integrity and hard work resonate throughout the saga. As the case builds toward a reckoning, The Winning Ticket demonstrates how a new day has dawned in prosecuting complex technological crimes.

Book Understanding and Interpreting Data on the Learning of English Tenses and Verb Forms

Download or read book Understanding and Interpreting Data on the Learning of English Tenses and Verb Forms written by Jason Miin-Hwa Lim and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guiding learners to acquire sufficient knowledge of grammar constitutes an interesting domain in the field of teaching English as a second language. This research-based resource book focuses on the learning of English tenses and verbal categories, which forms a huge and fascinating component of English grammar that merits attention in teachers’ attempts to improve their students’ English proficiency. Inspired by concepts relating to explicit learning, consciousness raising, contrastive analysis and error analysis, the author used a wealth of data derived from a set of elicitation procedures to reveal the linguistic interference encountered by second language learners. Arguing for the need to conceptualise grammatical rules positively, this inquiry focuses on studying learners’ wide-ranging responses to a large number of items designed to explore linguistic interference in the learning of English verb forms in eight major categories. The findings, explanations and illustration-based recommendations provided in this volume will give trainee teachers, instructors and researchers deeper insights into how strategies can be aptly employed to enhance learners’ performance in using English verb forms and related grammatical categories, which constitute a key dimension in the learning and teaching of English as a second language.

Book Trading Bases

Download or read book Trading Bases written by Joe Peta and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ex–Wall Street trader improved on Moneyball’s famed sabermetrics and beat the Vegas odds with his own betting methods. Here is the story of how Joe Peta turned fantasy baseball into a dream come true. Joe Peta turned his back on his Wall Street trading career to pursue an ingenious—and incredibly risky—dream. He would apply his risk-analysis skills to Major League Baseball, and treat the sport like the S&P 500. In Trading Bases, Peta takes us on his journey from the ballpark in San Francisco to the trading floors and baseball bars of New York and the sportsbooks of Las Vegas, telling the story of how he created a baseball “hedge fund” with an astounding 41 percent return in his first year. And he explains the unique methods he developed. Along the way, Peta provides insight into the Wall Street crisis he managed to escape: the fragility of the midnineties investment model; the disgraced former CEO of Lehman Brothers, who recruited Peta; and the high-adrenaline atmosphere where million-dollar sports-betting pools were common.

Book Christian Maturation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Theodore Andoseh
  • Publisher : ZTF Books Online
  • Release : 1901
  • ISBN : 1005820198
  • Pages : 96 pages

Download or read book Christian Maturation written by Theodore Andoseh and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on 1901 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first epistle of Apostle John cites three age groups to describe Christian maturation—childhood, fatherhood, and youth—in an order contrary to the natural order of human gradation. Why does the Bible go from childhood to fatherhood before coming to the third category—youth? In this book, Pastor T. Andoseh expands on these three categories of disciples of Jesus Christ in terms of their spiritual relevance and usefulness. He gives an acute diagnosis of each group's needs and offers an ideal prescription to satisfy each need. The reader is made to see their need for maturity and potential usefulness in the advancement of God's Kingdom. The author demonstrates through contemporary examples that, the pathway to continuous and multiplied victories over temptations, the world, and the works of the enemy is open to all. It is a must-read for every disciple of Jesus Christ and leader of God’s people.

Book Good Thinking

  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-10-03
  • ISBN : 0429847602
  • Pages : 230 pages

Download or read book Good Thinking written by Christoph Kelp and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines virtue reliabilism with knowledge first epistemology to develop novel accounts of knowledge and justified belief. It is virtue reliabilist in that knowledge and justified belief are accounted for in terms of epistemic ability. It is knowledge first epistemological in that, unlike traditional virtue reliabilism, it does not unpack the notion of epistemic ability as an ability to form true beliefs but as an ability to know, thus offering a definition of justified belief in terms of knowledge. In addition, the book aims to show that this version of knowledge first virtue reliabilism serves to provide novel solutions to a number of core epistemological problems and, as a result, compares favourably with alternative versions of virtue reliabilism both in the traditionalist and in the knowledge first camp. This is the first ever book-length development of knowledge first virtue reliabilism, and it will contribute to recent debates in these two growing areas of epistemology.
