How about beef Wellington on barbed wire, a cooked breakfast on a shovel or sausages in a dog bowl? In recent years, the culinary world has been gripped by an epidemic of restaurants and chefs "getting creative" with food presentation--and Ross McGinnes has had enough. In 2015 he founded the Twitter account @WeWantPlates to push back against this trend and document serving travesties, building up more than 130,000 followers and receiving thousands of submissions.

Book The Bottom of the Barrel

Book excerpt: You can see now beyond the immediate turmoil and grasp the big picture. Now you can see the other side of the curtain where the larger reality awaits. This book will inspire your mind and soul. The author has accomplished the monumental task of translating the truth of a green uniform into black and white. I ask you, can letters and words on paper so deeply influence your consciousness that you are literally not the same person? YES! Your whole life can be changed by a few words that a person in authority writes about you. I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that when you read this book, if you are thinking of sending your children into the military, or joining the military, it will vastly, immeasurably change your way of thinking and prepare you for the better. This book will remind you to be conscious when dealing with those in authority. The story is about boys that grow up together with high hopes of trying to make a good life. They find themselves becoming anti-social drug users at a early age. The high energy and high spirits keep them going. Their hope for a better life is diminished as they grow up. At an early age they realize that trying to fit in is useless. They hang around English-speaking kids, thinking that they are going to learn how to speak the language better, but find that ridicule and ostracism are breaking their spirits. The odds are against them, and they know it. The humiliation that they go through is killing them on the inside. They are pushed to the point that they start to push back. They end up losing out on a good education. They find themselves organizing in order to survive. They learn about racism and this fills them with rage. The school principal ridicules them. Their teachers talk to them as though they were retarded. Eventually they all go into the military with hopes of cleaning up and staying straight. They are in for a surprise, finding more drugs, violent, and racial tension than in the civilian world. You can see now beyond the immediate turmoil and grasp the big picture. Now you can see the other side of the curtain where the larger reality awaits. The Author has accomplished the monumental task of translating the truth of a green uniform into black and white. Ask yourself, can letters and words on paper so deeply influence your consciousness that you are literally not the same person? YES! I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that when you read this book and are one who is thinking of sending your children into the milit

Book The Bottom of the Barrel

Book excerpt: A well known comedian once told me that puns were the absolutely lowest form of humor (he obviously never read Shakespeare). This would mean that the worst of puns, aphorisms and sayings would be rock bottom on the comedic quality chart (but could be funny nonetheless). I took his remark as a challenge. Produce ?groaners,? ?Oh my gods,? and ?I can?t believe you wrote that? - ers. Put them together and see what happens. So enjoy, sigh or whatever but don?t hurt yourself. Any complaints and comments should be sent to George W. Bush. He won?t understand what you are referring to, but then again? And please remember, from the bottom of the barrel things are always looking up.

Book excerpt: “A must-read for anyone interested in moving from inspiration to action.” —Cal Newport, author of So Good They Can’t Ignore You Most of us fill our days with frantic activity, bouncing from task to task, scrambling to make deadlines and chase the next promotion. But by the end of each day we’re often left wondering if any of it really mattered. We feel the ticking of the clock, but we’re unsure of the path forward. Die Empty is a tool for people who aren’t willing to put off their most important work for another day. Todd Henry explains the forces that lead to stagnation and introduces practices that will keep you on a true and steady course. The key is embracing the idea that time is finite, so you should focus on the unique contribution to the world that only you can make. Henry shows how to sustain your enthusiasm, push through mental barriers, and unleash your best work each day.
