Book Borrowing God s Glasses

Download or read book Borrowing God s Glasses written by Lacei Grabill and published by Borrowing God's Glasses. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borrowing God's Glasses seeks to take students beyond the surface knowledge of God and to challenge them to actively pursue Him and His answers for their lives. It is written specifically for a young woman who has already given her life to God, has a desire to know Him more, and is willing to do whatever it takes to become the woman she is created to be. The book is broken into 4 parts, each providing His answers to questions faced during the teenage years. Part 1 answers the question "Who Am I?" by helping girls discover who they are as individuals, learning to see themselves as God sees them, realizing what it means to be beautiful, and figuring out how to forgive themselves for past mistakes. Part 2 deals with the question "Who Is God?" as it guides girls to solidify their belief in Him, understand why they need a Savior, and see God as both their Dad and their Best Friend. Part 3 asks the question "Who Are Christians?" and then answers it by discussing misconceptions of what it means to be a true Christian, how to truly fall more in love with Him, and how to see people through His eyes. Part 4 wraps it up with the question "Who Am I Created to Be" as it teaches girls how to live out His vision for their lives and experience true freedom, joy, and adventure. Although God can use this book to impact teenage girls when it's read on their own, Borrowing God's Glasses is also designed for small group study, grades 6-12. Each of the 18 chapters is followed by a scripture verse for memorization and reflection questions for group discussion. In addition, the appendix is a wealth of small group materials, encouraging group leaders and providing practical tools for using this book to best impact teenage girls' lives. Included are extra group activities pertaining to each chapter, a basic outline giving a detailed breakdown of a small group time, and two pages that may be copied and used as needed--a weekly update (accountability sheet), and a page for keeping track of the prayer needs of the girls in the group. Borrowing God's Glasses is a perfect book to prepare youth for the "real life" that is racing towards them. Filled with scripture and real-life stories, Borrowing God's Glasses has the right stuff to transform a teen's life.

Book excerpt: Jerry Canfield has long made a living by smuggling Meso-American artifacts into the United States and selling them to dealers in the Santa Fe art market. He is a hustler and a former numbers runner with an aptitude for cards, mathematics and amateur archeology. On a trip to Belize to acquire pre-Columbian relics, he finds a peculiar green glass contained in a metal frame. The glass is found in a Mayan tomb recently uncovered by an earthquake. The inscriptions on the metal are not Mayan, but in long-dead Middle Eastern languages. The Mayan tomb dates from a pre-Columbian time when metal and glass were unknown in the Americas. Canfield solves the secret of the glass and discovers that by looking through the glass, one can see the future. However, the future that can be viewed is limited—only five minutes and fifty seconds ahead of the present. Canfield realizes that, even with future knowledge of less than six minutes, the holder can obtain riches, power, and control over destiny.

Book God s Mysteries and Paradoxes Looking Through the Glass Darkly

Download or read book God s Mysteries and Paradoxes Looking Through the Glass Darkly written by Dr. Carroll M. Helm and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Mysteries and Paradoxes: Looking through the Glass Darkly is a book about paradoxes and how they were actually created by God to bring unique enlightenment but also to confound the so-called earthly wisdom. Paradoxes also keep believers humble by showing them that God's ways are not always man's ways. "For this is what the high and lofty One says he who lives forever, whose name is holy; I live in a high and holy place but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite (Isaiah 57: 15)." This book introduces the reader to the ancient idea of "The Divine Paradox" written by Hermes Tristmegistus (thrice great) in The Divine Pylander. An additional book, Corpus Hermeticum, was translated by Marsilo Ficino during the early Renaissance and helps frame the philosophical paradox of nature versus faith. This book, along with other fragments written by Hermes Trismegistus, was translated in the early 1400s and caused a rebirth of its teachings during the Renaissance. Modern secret societies and the occult are using much of the same knowledge to deceive people in the world today. Evidence shows Albertus Magnus, Roger Bacon, and the Knights Templar possessed ancient knowledge and from it gave rise to secret organizations and societies operating today, including the Illuminati, Freemasons, and modern occultists.

Book excerpt: Were you ever lost in a large department store when you were a child? Can you remember how you felt with your chest welling up inside like it was going to explode from the anxiety that overwhelmed you as you frantically searched for your mom or dad? Your mind racing as you were thinking, "I only took my eyes off of them for a minute to look at the toy, oh where could they be?" That sheer panic is what plagued me when I was distracted by things in this world and lost my way. 'Like Broken Glass' is an inspirational book about losing our way, making all the wrong decisions and God still bringing us home safely again. This journey began with losing everything our family had in a business which was wiped out by a natural disaster; then refusing to see God's hand of providence, I tried rebuilding it all again. Compounded by the untimely death of my father, God finally broke my heart and I listened. This story ends with one of the greatest blessings I have ever known, culminating in the birth of the only heir to my family name. 'Like Broken Glass' hopes to leave you with one principle from the Word of God. If you learn nothing else at least remember this: "God makes a promise. We fail. God keeps His promise!" Why? Because He is God; and He has come to seek those who are lost and mend their broken hearts.

Book Frame Glass Verse

Download or read book Frame Glass Verse written by Rayna Kalas and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a book that draws attention to some of our most familiar and unquestioned habits of thought—from "framing" to "perspective" to "reflection"—Rayna Kalas suggests that metaphors of the poetic imagination were once distinctly material and technical in character. Kalas explores the visual culture of the English Renaissance by way of the poetic image, showing that English writers avoided charges of idolatry and fancy through conceits that were visual, but not pictorial. Frames, mirrors, and windows have been pervasive and enduring metaphors for texts from classical antiquity to modernity; as a result, those metaphors seem universally to emphasize the mimetic function of language, dividing reality from the text that represents it. This book dissociates those metaphors from their earlier and later formulations in order to demonstrate that figurative language was material in translating signs and images out of a sacred and iconic context and into an aesthetic and representational one. Reading specific poetic images—in works by Spenser, Shakespeare, Gascoigne, Bacon, and Nashe—together with material innovations in frames and glass, Kalas reveals both the immanence and the agency of figurative language in the early modern period. Frame, Glass, Verse shows, finally, how this earlier understanding of poetic language has been obscured by a modern idea of framing that has structured our apprehension of works of art, concepts, and even historical periods. Kalas presents archival research in the history of frames, mirrors, windows, lenses, and reliquaries that will be of interest to art historians, cultural theorists, historians of science, and literary critics alike. Throughout Frame, Glass, Verse, she challenges readers to rethink the relationship of poetry to technology.

Book Through a Glass Darkly

Download or read book Through a Glass Darkly written by Holly Faith Nelson and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2011-01-19 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering, the sacred, and the sublime are concepts that often surface in humanities research in an attempt to come to terms with what is challenging, troubling or impossible to represent. These intersecting concepts are used to mediate the gap between the spoken and the unspeakable, between experience and language, between body and spirit, between the immanent and the transcendent, and between the human and the divine. The twenty-five essays in Through a Glass Darkly: Suffering, the Sacred, and the Sublime in Literature and Theory, written by international scholars working in the fields of literary criticism, philosophy, and history, address the ways in which literature and theory have engaged with these three concepts and related concerns. The contributors analyze literary and theoretical texts from the medieval period to the postmodern age, from the works of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Donne, and Herbert to those of Endô Shûsaku, Alice Munro, Annie Dillard, Emmanuel Levinas, and Slavoj Žižek. This book will be of particular interest to scholars of religion and literature, philosophy and literature, aesthetic theory, and trauma studies.
