Book The Chinese Dark Poet Huang Xiang and His Colorful World

Download or read book The Chinese Dark Poet Huang Xiang and His Colorful World written by Zhengming Fu (Sweden) and published by KunLun Press. This book was released on with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Huang Xiang 黄翔, the protagonist of this book, was born on 26th December 1941 in Guidong county, Hunan province of central China. After the Communists came to power in 1949, he was imprisoned six times and severely persecuted for his free-spirited writing and his campaigns for human rights. For more than thirty years, this self-educated poet and writer, wrote secretly against the bondage of totalitarian ideology to safe-guard the freedom of speech. According to the author of the book, Huang is a great dark poet who has expressed the painful memories, fears and struggles that haunted his life creating wonderful poetic beauty in the darkness. His poetic creation is a miracle in the history of Chinese contemporary literature. We may say that Huang's identity as an unknown dark poet is conditioned by his personal, emotional and tragic experiences of struggles while facing historical events such as the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976, the April 5th Movement in 1976, the Democracy Wall Movement in 1978 and the Pro-Democracy Movement in 1989 in China.

Book Other Influences

Download or read book Other Influences written by Marcella Durand and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2024-10-29 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compelling collection of original essays on influence that restore a feminist avant-garde that includes women of color, queer, and trans women. Other Influences frames a new literary history in which feminist, avant-garde, and poetry practices intersect, foregrounding critically neglected but artistically powerful lineages in twentieth- and twenty-first-century North American poetry. In this collection, Marcella Durand and Jennifer Firestone assemble original essays by a range of leading contemporary feminist avant-garde poets asked to consider their lineages, inspirations, and influences. Their reflections contain many surprises, with writers citing scientists, artists, and little-known feminist writers from other eras and traditions; for example, Tracie Morris discusses the Gee's Bend quilters, Carla Harryman writes about her collaboration with Lyn Hejinian, and Cecilia Vicuña cites the Tao Te Ching. Unlike other collections of “writers on writing,” Other Influences demonstrates a complex feminist ethos of paying homage to forebears while at the same time resisting the parts of a history, along with previous concepts of “influence,” that might be stale or limiting. Countering a masculinist model of “influence” à la Harold Bloom, Durand and Firestone illuminate the diverse, nonhierarchical ecosystems of feminist avant-garde poetry and re-envision “influence” through their own lens and on their own terms—aspiring to no less than the unmaking of a canon. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide-ranging and beautiful collection of essays from one of world literature’s most important writers. Goenawan Mohamad is one of Indonesia’s foremost public intellectuals, and this translated volume of essays—spanning from 1968 to the present day—demonstrates the breadth of his perceptive and elegant commentary on literature, faith, mythology, politics, and history. Through the worst days of Indonesia's authoritarianism, in the face of the trauma of great violence and the chaos of democratic transition, Goenawan has never lost faith in the act of writing. Many of his essays from In Other Words were first published for Tempo, the Indonesian weekly magazine that he founded in 1971. His writings bring nuance and sympathy to difficult histories, introduce doubt to damaging certainties, and apply clarity of thought and action to times of great upheaval. Activist, journalist, editor, essayist, poet, commentator, theater director, and playwright, Goenawan Mohamad brings an unparalleled and wide-ranging perspective to the world. These essays, translated by his long-time collaborator Jennifer Lindsay, reveal a vision both uniquely Indonesian and completely universal, and indisputably establish him as one of the leading political thinkers and cultural observers in the world today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God is Love. To believe in this God of unconditional Love is a lived experience in each person and in each generation everywhere on the globe and all different cultures and historical periods. In the beginning of the nineteenth century we notice in the south of the Netherlands a strong movement to renew and to actualise the Catholic faith in the concrete circumstances of poverty and political neglect. In this way the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity Daughters of Mary and Joseph was founded on 7 July 1820 in ’s Hertogenbosch. Similar to several other congregations in the same period St Vincent de Paul was their principal source of inspiration, determined their charism and remained at the centre of their spirituality. Religious life is essentially a lived experience of faith in which concrete persons touched by the incomprehensible Love of God dedicate their life in total surrender to this Love. As a result, they obey to the divine calling to be wholly transformed in love and to become docile instruments of God’s overwhelming Charity towards all vulnerable persons - young and old – their brothers and sisters who are stripped of their human dignity, humiliated and enslaved in many subtle ways. In this Vincentian congregation this divine vocation of Charity was originally implemented as a specific service to the education of blind and deaf children but widened to the care of other forgotten groups like victims of trafficking in women and discrimination or subordination of women.
