Book excerpt: As life unfolded it was clear to me, /I was BORN TO SERVE God, Family, Country, and Community. So writes Charles R. Gay in this moving recollection of the life of a man, born to sharecroppers in southern Georgia, whose upbringing and rock-solid faith in God and Jesus Christ led him to a life dedicated to helping others. At the age of 14, Charles R. Gay left school to care for his family and their farm when illness left both of his parents bed-ridden. A few years later, despite being excused from the military draft, he answered the call of duty by serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After twenty years of service in the Navy, Gay returned to his home town to work as a police officer and deputy sheriff. As readers will witness, during each phase of his remarkable life it was his sincere faith in the Lord that kept Charles R. Gay on his true path and showed him that he was born to serve.

Download or read book Born to Trade written by Surendra Gopal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-09-13 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This pioneering work traces migration of Indian traders to Russia, Iran, West Asia and South-East Asia in medieval times. Four essays throw light on the activities of the Indian business community in Russia. Generally Indians came to Russia via Iran. There they took a boat, crossed the Caspian Sea and reached the Russian port of Astrakhan. Indian visitors included Hindus (including Jains), Muslims, Christians, Parsis among others. Hindus constituted the largest segment of the migrants. They became an object of local curiosity because of their rituals and social practices. They also became an object of jealousy. Indians did not enjoy political and administrative support as the European East India Companies did. Occasionally local rulers consulted them and sought their advice. Three essays deal with Indian traders in Iran in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One essay discusses trade between India and Iran in the fifteenth century. There are papers discussing activities of Indian traders in West Asia, Yemen and South East Asia in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The conclusion focuses on Indian merchants and the Indian Ocean in medieval times. The author concludes that Indian traders did not enjoy political and royal support, essential for success. He also affirms that crossing the seas did not lead to social boycott by their caste-men. This taboo came much later, probably with the advent of British rule in the nineteenth century.

Packed with great photos of real families in the outdoors, Born to Be Wild contains easy-to-follow instructions for activities that require nothing more sophisticated than a small person's imagination and access to a little outdoor space. Nature lays on magical materials for free each season, from fallen leaves and twigs, moulted feathers, sand and shells, to mud, puddles and rain. Everything else you'll need for these activities is already hiding in your cupboards at home. No expensive art supplies of outward-bound kit required. All you need are the toolkit items at the front of the book - ordinary household essentials like scraps of paper, string, glue, recycled food containers and an empty jar or two. Along the way Hattie talks to families, organisations and communities who have rebuilt their relationships with nature with extreme or inspiring results, and she introduces scientists, psychologists and other experts who explain why, as modern families, we should revive our waning relationships with nature, whatever age or stage we're at.

Book Born to Multiply

Download or read book Born to Multiply written by LaShawne Holland and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THOUGHT PROVOKING. INVIGORATING. INSPIRATIONAL. A ROUSING ROADMAP FOR ANYONE WHO DESIRES TO TRANSFORM THEIR FINANCIAL SITUATION AND DISCOVER HOW TO USE WHAT’S IN THEIR HANDS TO CREATE GENERATIONAL WEALTH AND TRUE FINANCIAL FREEDOM. LaShawne Holland never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. Unlike her 3rd grade classmates, who wanted to be attorneys, astronauts, chefs, and doctors, she never had THAT vision. Her vision was unconventional and so was her answer to the teacher. “I DON’T WANT TO BE BROKE” were the words that escaped her mouth. Loud and clear, she confidently repeated it as second time as if the class didn’t hear her the first time as confirmation of her big dream. She was an honor roll student all throughout school, then in her 12th grade year, her High School Guidance Counselor told her in a meeting that “kids like you don’t go to college”. Confused and shocked by his comments, she left that meeting more determined than ever to not become the statistic that society would try to box her in to be. She went to college, working three jobs to pay her way through school, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and went to work in Corporate America. It didn’t take long for her to start to feel the uncomfortable tug in her heart that she didn’t want to be placed in a box and only make in a salary what her boss deemed she was worth. Born to Multiply is about seizing and taking hold of the promises of God in the bible where wealth and riches is concerned and apply them to your life. It’s about employing your gifts, that was placed inside of you before the foundations of the world to create wealth. LaShawne believes that wealth follows purpose and no one has the right to tell you that you can only have a certain income level. LaShawne disrupts the social-economic norms that society tries to tag children of teen parents with. In Born to Multiply, she shares her journey and helps the reader discover how to transform financial suffocation to financial success.

And no one spins a bolder, snarkier, laugh-out-loud, fiercely feminist shape-shifter love story than New York Times bestselling author Shelly Laurenston... An Amazon Most Anticipated Book! "Shelly Laurenston's shifter books are full of oddball characters, strong females with attitude and dialogue that can have you laughing out loud." --The Philadelphia Inquirer Emily "Tock" Meyerson-Jackson is on a mission to rid the world of shifters trafficking humans for hunting and cash. And now that she's narrowed down her suspects to a brutal coalition of male lions, nothing will get between this honey badger and her prey--not even a dog-loving Tiger with absolutely no time management skills. Doesn't matter that Shay Malone is ferociously adorable. With a war brewing between cat families, Tock doesn't have time to lounge around with a football-playing tiger shifter. But when she realizes the coalition is also responsible for the death of Shay's father, she's forced to partner up with the flirtatious feline. . . Revenge is most definitely on the menu for Shay and his tiger shifter brothers. But when it comes to Shay's alluring partner in crime-solving, so is seduction. Tock might be a bad-ass of a honey badger, but she's awfully cute when she's flashing her fangs, which she's pretty much doing all the time these days. Good thing revenge is a dish best served hot. Because when it comes to Tock, Shay knows just how to turn up the heat. . .

Book Born to Be Wild

Download or read book Born to Be Wild written by Jess Shatkin and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking, research-based guide that sheds new light on why young people make dangerous choices--and offers solutions that work Texting while driving. Binge-drinking. Unprotected sex. There are plenty of reasons for parents to worry about getting a late-night call about their teen. But most of the advice parents and educators hear about teens is outdated and unscientific--and simply doesn't work. Acclaimed adolescent psychiatrist and educator Jess Shatkin brings more than two decades' worth of research and clinical experience to the subject, along with cutting-edge findings from brain science, evolutionary psychology, game theory, and other disciplines -- plus a widely curious mind and the perspective of a concerned dad himself. Using science and stories, fresh analogies, clinical anecdotes, and research-based observations, Shatkin explains: * Why "scared straight," adult logic, and draconian punishment don't work * Why the teen brain is "born to be wild"--shaped by evolution to explore and take risks * The surprising role of brain development, hormones, peer pressure, screen time, and other key factors * What parents and teachers can do--in everyday interactions, teachable moments, and specially chosen activities and outings--to work with teens' need for risk, rewards and social acceptance, not against it. “Presents new research, as well as insights as a clinician and a father….This book is a clear argument to stop putting ourselves in our children’s shoes, and to try putting ourselves in their minds, instead.” –The Washington Post “With stories (personal and professional), neuroscience and cognition, psychology and clinical experience Dr. Shatkin offers an abundance of understandable, engaging and actionable information. He explains why and shows how. We can reduce risk in the adolescents we love and teach, but only if we know to how to do so and then do it. Born To Be Wild shows us the way to succeed.” --Psychology Today Winner, National Parenting Product Award 2017
