Book A Grammar of Mapuche

Download or read book A Grammar of Mapuche written by Ineke Smeets and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapuche is the language of the Mapuche (or Araucanians), the native inhabitants of central Chile. The Mapuche language, also called Mapudungu, is spoken by about 400,000 people in Chile and 40,000 in Argentina. The Mapuche people, estimated at about one million, constitute the majority of the Chilean indigenous population. The history of the Mapuche is the story of passionate fighters who managed to stop the Inca's but succumbed to the Spanish invaders after two and a half century of warfare. The relationship of the Mapuche language with other Amerindian languages has not yet been established. Mapuche is a highly agglutinative language with a complex verbal morphology. This book offers a comprehensive and detailed description of the Mapuche language. It contains a grammar (phonology, morphology and syntax), a collection of texts (stories, conversations and songs) with morphological analyses and free translations, and a Mapuche-English dictionary with a large number of derivations and examples. The grammar is preceded by a socio-historical sketch of the Mapuche people and a brief discussion of previous studies of the Mapuche language. The material for the description was collected by the author with the help of five Mapuche speakers with attention to the dialectal differences between them. The abundance of thoroughly analysed examples makes for a lively decription of the language. The intricacy of the verbal morphology will arouse the interest not only of those who practice Amerindian linguistics but also of those who are interested in language theory and language typology.

However why not make productive use of 'passing time' on activities that you can complete in 30mins and are so mind engrossing, you're left wondering where has the time gone + you've got something to show for your boredom? Well look no further because here are 101 quick activities to do just that! Each take approx 30mins to complete, (some take longer), and before you start, I suggest that you get / make a Remind Me box. What is a Remind Me box? It doesn't have to be an actual box because any place where you can put paper or memorabilia safely for later retrieval will do! Places like a drawer, an old shoe box, a suitcase, a bag in a cupboard. What do you place in the box? Memories! Book excerpt: A tale of love, trials, and faith set against a wonderfully drawn portrait of San Francisco, Consider Lily is chick lit with a heart. Lily Traywick thinks she must have been adopted. It’s easier than believing she’s actually related to Jane and Roland Traywick, her power-couple parents who own Traywick’s of San Francisco, the most chichi department store on the West Coast. While her parents party with Muccia in Milan and Gabbana in Paris, Lily hangs out at home in ratty jeans and an old T-shirt. She loves softball, guys, and Jesus, and she’s eager to make her own way in the world. Feeling that her life is on hold, she turns to her best friend Reagan Axness. Reagan, a fashionista who has it all, offers just the solution: a major life makeover. Lily is soon dressing in the latest must-have fashions and pursuing a writing career. She’s even dating the “perfect” guy. But does he love her for who she really is? And will he be able to resist the tempting seductress who has her eye on him? As Lily’s old friends question her new way of life, and public scandal, family drama, and technological disasters add to her confusion, Lily is forced to consider whether her quest to have it all will cause her to lose everything that matters. Hot off their debut success, Emily Ever After, “good-girl” chick-lit trailblazers Dayton and Vanderbilt return with a witty, refreshingly real story of a young woman’s adventures in the high-powered world of San Francisco high fashion.

Book excerpt: Scott Blackburn’s searing literary debut explores the dangerous world of secrets threatening to upend a rural Southern town, perfect for fans of David Joy and Brian Panowich. For nearly a decade, twenty-nine-year-old Hudson Miller has made his living in the boxing ring, but a post-fight brawl threatens to derail his career. Desperate for money, Hudson takes a gig as a bouncer at a dive bar. That’s when life delivers him another hook to the jaw: his estranged father, Leland, has been murdered in what appears to be a robbery-gone-bad at his salvage yard, Miller’s Pull-a-Part. Soon after his father’s funeral, Hudson learns he’s inherited the salvage yard, and he returns to his Bible-belt hometown of Flint Creek, North Carolina, to run the business. But the business is far more than junk cars and scrap metal. It was the site of an illegal gun-running ring. And the secrets don’t end there; a grisly discovery is made at the yard that thrusts Hudson into the fight of his life. Reeling for answers, Hudson joins forces with his father’s former employee, 71-year-old, beer-guzzling Vietnam vet Charlie Shoaf, and a feisty teenage girl, Lucy Reyes, who’s fiercely seeking justice for her own family tragedy. With a murderer on the loose and no answers from the local cops, the trio of outcasts launch an investigation. The shocking truth they uncover will shake Flint Creek to its very core.

Book Mind Breach

  • Publisher : Strategic Book Publishing Rights Agency
  • Release : 2014-06-02
  • ISBN : 1622123891
  • Pages : 451 pages

Download or read book Mind Breach written by J. L. W. Bressler and published by Strategic Book Publishing Rights Agency. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our story begins with a tragedy that rips apart the minds (a mind breach) of everyone involved. Can you think of an act that would be severe enough to literally rupture your brain? Ryan Benet can, and the only way to escape such pain is to enroll at a private school named Kimball Academy. The school has a long list of alumni who graduated from Ivy League Schools. That's Ryan's goal, but instead of fame and fortune, he becomes immersed in strange behavior and intense experiments. In the beginning, the students don't appear frightened when a bell rings and they all stop, as if frozen in time, and then run to the side of the building forming lines that face the wall. What's causing such odd behavior? It appears the students have been conditioned to respond to the school's bell system. Mind Breach is a thriller based on Pavlov's conditioning theory, and the use of procedures and bell systems in a private school setting. Against a backdrop of paintball wars and Twinkie experiments, a group of teenagers is targeted for an experiment gone wrong. This page turner includes a message of caution in today's age of technological advancements. About the Author J.L.W. Bressler grew up in Vallejo, California, moved to Utah, and is currently a music teacher in Boise, Idaho, which she calls going from surf, to ski, to spud. "As a teacher, you want to reach and inspire each student you come in contact with, but sometimes their behaviors make that difficult. I have worked with amazing teachers who use every method they can to mold, and yes, control the student. What works? This book is a bit of a satire on that journey." Book Hat Trick Complete Collection

Download or read book Hat Trick Complete Collection written by Avon Gale and published by Harlequin. This book was released on 2024-04-29 with total page 1057 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the world of professional hockey, these players know how to score. But will the love they find off the ice be any match for their love for the game? Or is someone bound to lose? Off the Ice Tristan Holt may be at the top of his game, but hitting the books in the off-season means he’ll have a business degree to fall back on when it’s time to hang up his hockey skates. What seems to be a straightforward plan is complicated by his undeniable attraction to his sexy sociology professor, Sebastian Cruz. Impressed by Tristan’s brain as well as his brawn, Sebastian can’t help lusting after the gorgeous jock. With tenure on the line, Sebastian won’t break the rules by becoming involved with one of his students—at least, not until the end of term. Once final grades are posted, though, their naughty mutual fantasies can become reality. Tristan’s not sure he’s up for being the poster boy for openly gay hockey players, but Sebastian’s never been the type of man to keep his sexuality—or his relationships—in the closet. For Tristan, being with Sebastian might mean risking more than just his heart. Goalie Interference After a stellar season as goalie for the Atlanta Venom, Ryu Mori is expecting to hear he’s the new starting goalie for the team when he's called into mangement's office. Instead, Emmitt Armstrong—the incredibly hot, annoyingly bratty rookie—is here to compete for his spot. Emmitt Armstrong is not about to waste the opportunity after grinding his way from the bottom to the top. If the Venom are looking for a meek, mild-mannered pushover, they’ve got the wrong guy. Ryu doesn’t want to admit the other goalie’s smart mouth turns him on. Beating Armstrong at practice feels good, sure, but there are other, more fun ways to shut his rival up. In this league, it’s winner takes all. But there’s more to life than winning, and if Emmitt and Ryu can get past their egos and competitive natures, they might just discover they work better as partners than they ever imagined possible. Trade Deadline Daniel “Bellzie” Bellamy should be on top of the world—a Stanley Cup is the perfect topper to his fourteen-year NHL career. But despite the post-win high, something’s missing. When the chance to play for his hometown team, the Miami Thunder, comes along, he’s open to it. And when he runs into an old friend from his past soon after he makes the move, he wonders if it might be kismet. Micah Kelly never thought he’d reunite with his childhood crush—and first kiss—again. Danny Bellamy moved on to bigger and better things when they were teenagers, and the idea that Micah’s relationship with the professional hockey player could be anything more than one-sided Instagram thirst seems too good to be true. As the season goes on, Micah teaches Daniel to surf, and Daniel introduces Micah to his lovable pack of rescue dogs and the world of being a hockey boyfriend. Life is good. But when things on the ice don’t go as planned, they’ll have to decide if their rediscovered romance is built to last.
