This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The BOREAS AFM-5 team collected and processed data from the numerous radiosonde flights during the project. The goals of the AFM-05 team were to provide large-scale definition of the atmosphere by supplementing the existing AES aerological network, both temporally and spatially. This data set includes basic upper-air parameters collected from the network of upper-air stations during the 1993, 1994, and 1996 field campaigns over the entire study region. The data are contained in tabular ASCII files. The data files are available on a CD-ROM (see document number 20010000884) or from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC).MacPherson, J. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boreal Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study (BOREAS) Airborne Fluxes and Meteorology (AFM)-4 team used the National Research Council, Canada (NRC) Twin Otter aircraft to make sounding measurements through the boundary layer. These measurements included concentrations of carbon dioxide and ozone, atmospheric pressure, dry bulb temperature, potential temperature, dewpoint temperature, calculated mixing ratio, and wind speed and direction. Aircraft position, heading, and altitude were also recorded. Data were collected at both the Northern Study Area (NSA) and the Southern Study Area (SSA) in 1994 and 1996. These data are stored in tabular ASCII files. The Twin Otter aircraft sounding data are available from the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC). Book excerpt: Since its inception, the U.S. Global Change Research Program has had the policy of full and open data availability. This policy has already been implemented not only through the participating agencies but through many inter-agency mechanisms such as publications, Internet based services, and in many international settings. This fourth of a series of yearly publications represents another important step in this interagency process of making the data and information related to the Global Change Research Program available. It is particularly needed at this time since the users of this data and information have expanded from being primarily researchers to being a full mix that also includes educators, those making assessments of potential effects of global change, the commercial world, and the public as well as policy makers at all levels. One of this publication's objectives is to provide this diverse user community with a concise summary of what data has been cataloged and made newly available each year. This is being done in both this published form and in the Global Change Data and Information System on the Internet(www.gcdis.usgcrp.gov) with links to each data set, where available. Other objectives, however, are also important. These include giving recognition to the individuals and organizations who have done the important job of making the data available and providing a mechanism where the data sets used in a publication or assessment can be cited similarly to the citations now commonly used in publications to reference other publications.

Book The Wetlands Handbook 2 Volume Set

Download or read book The Wetlands Handbook 2 Volume Set written by Edward Maltby and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-07-23 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty-two chapters by international experts from a wide range ofdisciplines make The Wetlands Handbook the essential toolfor those seeking comprehensive understanding of the subject. Adeparture from more traditional treatises, this text examinesfreshwater wetland ecosystem science from the fundamentals toissues of management and policy. Introductory chapters address the scope and significance ofwetlands globally for communities, culture and biodiversity.Subsequent sections deal with processes underpinning wetlandfunctioning, how wetlands work, their uses and values for humansand nature, their sensitivity to external impacts, and how they maybe restored. The text is illustrated by numerous examples, emphasising functional and holistic approaches to wetlandmanagement, including case studies on the wise use andrehabilitation of wetlands in farmed, urban, industrial and otherdamaged environments, highlighting the long-term benefits ofmultiple use. The Wetlands Handbook will provide aninvaluable reference for researchers, managers, policy-makers andstudents of wetland sciences.

Download or read book Food Microstructure written by and published by . This book was released on 2018-05 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand by global consumers for healthier and more nutritious food products is increasing in accordance to high ethical standards addressing both specific health needs and sustainably produced. As for many consumers, healthy eating is allied to natural products and a growing demand for these products is observed, mainly in Europe and North America. In order to advance the quality of lives of consumers in developing countries like India and China, highly nutritious products are required that are relevant and that can be delivered at an affordable price. Therefore, it is of extreme importance in food engineering research to build up a detailed understanding of the time-dependent temporary changes in all of the structural aspects of food matrices from raw material harvesting, to product processing, to the point of breakdown during shelf-life, consumption and final digestion"Food Microstructure and Its Relationship with Quality and Stability" presents the wide-ranging synopsis of the effects that the properties of the fundamental structures of food have on its perceived quality to the consumer. Recent advancement in microscopy and image processing technology has helped the food engineers to probe into the microstructure of the food materials. Moreover, the food scientists have also gathered a large amount of quantitative data for establishing the relationship between the food microstructure and the food quality. This compendium discusses how food microstructure is affected by the food processing conditions, mainly during drying. It also presents a connection between the food microstructure and the changes in food properties and quality aspects throughout the stage of food processing. It revises different microscopy techniques used to characterize food microstructure from the conventional light microscope to advanced techniques such as electron, confocal laser scanning, and atomic force microscopy. Examples are presented on the role of microstructure in ice cream, frozen and extruded foods, and new fabricated products such as low-calorie spreads. Hope, this book is of vital importance for both academic students and researchers in the areas of food quality, preservation, and stability, as well as for food developers and processors.
