Your attitude towards this all-important job is what will make it fun and exciting for both of you. 'Success at School and Beyond' shows you seven simple steps how to boost your child's ability to learn, to have more confidence and self-esteem, for greater success in school and in life. Having fun, being in the moment developing happier, healthier and confident children. I am excited to share my experiences and my story as a parent, grandmother with 23 years experience as a licensed Brain Gym(r) teacher specialising in learning and behaviour in child development. Brain Gym and our fun, motor-sensory movement based programs have assisted thousands of parents and educators to help their children and students to perform better at school, get along better at home, and form healthy relationships. I have learned that the community has an impact on the child. As a parent, you are only one of the many influences in your child's life. Grandparents, relatives, siblings, teachers, neighbours, life experiences and the world, all play a part. When parents choose to see their children as unique, curious, spirited, creative, energetic, lovely human beings, it pulls the parents' focus to the child's strengths. As a parent, you can support your child to grow in a positive encouraging environment to become more accomplished in life. 'Success at School and Beyond' is a book I wish I had when I began my journey in raising my children. Life is busy, years fly by, and before you realise it, your children will be teenagers. Becoming more informed and finding positive, effective strategies and techniques to use for your child early in life can completely turn things around for them. I trust you can learn from my experiences. You may like to adopt into your life some of the knowledge and wisdom I have gained through my life's experiences. This book is a step towards a better life for you, your child, and everyone around you! I encourage you to be open and curious, and enjoy exploring new information that you can add in your journey of life. Praises for the 'Success at School and Beyond' book "Thank you, Enza. I read your book, then I read it again and again. Each time I learnt something to help me as a new mum, and to give my boy the best start to life. It's great to refresh what is essentially important to guiding my child to a happy, fulfilling life. Thank you for all the great ideas. I'm excited to put those ideas into practice." Lisa, mother "What a wonderful book, written from the heart, and filled with gems of wisdom and information. It reflects the many years of personal research and education Enza has devoted to child growth and development, motivated by her deep desire to see every child has the best opportunity for happiness and to reach their full potential. It also reflects the wisdom of her own experiences as a mother and grandmother. Some time ago, when my children were young, I had the opportunity to attend a workshop on Brain Gym(r) that Enza conducted. Brain Gym(r) became an integral part of my daughter's daily routine with obvious and very positive results. It does work, and so do the many other insightful and valuable principles and techniques Enza has shared in this book. I now have two healthy, happy, and successful adult daughters. Enza, I applaud your passion, dedication, and desire to share the valuable knowledge and wisdom you have acquired over the years, and highly recommend this book to every parent and parent to be." Book Schools for All Kinds of Minds

Download or read book Schools for All Kinds of Minds written by Mary-Dean Barringer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-03-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how schools can--and must--develop expertise in "learning variation" (understanding how different kinds of minds learn) and apply this knowledge to classroom instruction in order to address the chronic learning challenges and achievement gap faced by millions of students. Barringer shows how using what we know about learning variation with a focus on discovering learning strengths, not just deficits, can help schools create plans for success for those students who often find it elusive. The book specifically addresses how school leaders can incorporate this knowledge into instructional practice and school-level policy through various professional development strategies. Schools for All Kinds of Minds: Provides a readable synthesis of the latest research from neuroscience, cognitive science, and child and adolescent development as it relates to understanding learning and its many variations. Links this information to strategies for understanding struggling learners and adapting school practices to accommodate a wider array of learning differences in a classroom. Demonstrates how this understanding of learning variation can change the way teachers and others help students succeed in various academic and content areas and acquire necessary 21st century skills. Includes discussion questions and facilitator guidelines for staff developers and teacher education programs; downloadable forms that accompany exercises from within the book; an action plan for schools to implement the ideas found in the book; and more.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's global society, parents are realizing that their children must get a quality education so they are taking charge of their own child's learning needs. It does not matter whether children are attending schools or being homeschooled, they still have continued support when they are working on their studies at home. Similarly, children who are homeschooled have the same options available to them too. Parents may opt to seek tutoring services to supplement their child's homeschooled educational program. Parents are realizing that they truly have control of their children's education and many options are available to them. Written by an educator and mom who has been a long-time tutor, this book will take you on a journey in which you will discover more about your child and yourself. Once you get to know your child academically, you'll learn how to: Choose the right learning environment for your child; Select a curriculum for your child; Plan your child's lessons; Supplement your child's curriculum; Assess your child's progress; Keep track and report your child's grades to him or her and the school; Find professional development opportunities for parents who want to help their child. Book I Want to Try and Try

    Book Details:
  • Author : Allison Leigh Master
  • Publisher : Stanford University
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 122 pages

Download or read book I Want to Try and Try written by Allison Leigh Master and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation to learn plays a critical role in students' academic success. This dissertation reports five experiments (N = 250) that increase children's motivation (specifically, challenge seeking and persistence) through storybooks. The first two studies examined how manipulating the similarity between the main character of a story and the participating child affected preschoolers' (Study 1) and kindergarteners' (Study 2) motivation as assessed by the choice of and persistence on challenging puzzles. Study 2 also compared effects for struggling versus non-struggling students. Study 3 examined whether persuasion would increase challenge seeking, when children convince someone else of the value of taking on challenges and persisting. Study 4 examined effects over time, and found that children showed a robust boost in challenge seeking two weeks later, especially those who were reminded of the original book. Study 5 examined whether the effects could be due to a particular aspect of the books, process praise, which sends a message that effort and persistence are effective and valued. Increasing children's motivation at a young age may set the stage for future academic achievement, creating a cycle of positive motivation and academic success.

Book excerpt: For success in school and life, students need more than proficiency in academic subjects and good scores on tests; those goals should form the floor, not the ceiling, of their education. To truly thrive, students need to develop attributes that aren’t typically measured on standardized tests. In this lively, engaging book by veteran school leader Thomas R. Hoerr, educators will learn how to foster the “Formative Five” success skills that today’s students need, including Empathy: learning to see the world through others’ perspectives. Self-control: cultivating the abilities to focus and delay self-gratification. Integrity: recognizing right from wrong and practicing ethical behavior. Embracing diversity: recognizing and appreciating human differences. Grit: persevering in the face of challenge. When educators engage students in understanding and developing these five skills, they change mindsets and raise expectations for student learning. As an added benefit, they see significant improvements in school and classroom culture. With specific suggestions and strategies, The Formative Five will help teachers, principals, and anyone else who has a stake in education prepare their students—and themselves—for a future in which the only constant will be change.
