Book excerpt: Book of Revelation - Sentence Block Diagram Method of the New TestamentBible Reading Guide - Reveals Structure, Major Themes & TopicsCompiled by Pastor Raymond and Rosa SuenThe Following is a Review & Recommendation from Dr. Johnson C. Philip TOP 1000 Amazon REVIEWER on December 10, 2013GOOD TOOL FOR EXPOSITORS!The Bible is a book written over a span of 1500 years, by almost 40 writers who hailed from different cultures and language groups. Thus the 66 books of the Bible need to be analyzed in their own culture, language, and context if one has to understand the message clearly. This is easier said than done. Many methods have come up to understand the message of the Bible objectively, and each method contributes something or other to the cumulative task of clarifying the message. The Sentence-block-diagram method is one of these approaches which yields fascinating insights into what was said. More so because this type of analysis clearly shows sentence connections in our language which connection might not be obvious immediately. The only weakness of the book is that while it shows the result of analysis, it does not contain any interpretation of the text. Thus this book will be useful only for those who wish to get the analyzed text, but not for those who are looking for a Bible Exposition.------------------------------------------I want to thank Dr Johnson Philip for this honest review. From the reviewer point of view he had pointed out exactly the sole objective of this Guided Bible Reading Series. The whole objective is to free the reader from reading any interpretations into the text and let the text speaks for itself. You need to see the structure outline clearly so that you do not read your own ideas into the text. In this sense, as Dr Johnson Philip points out, there are no interpretations and expositions of the passages. However as Dr. Johnson Philip points out, it is an excellent TOOL for expositors all the same!-------------------------------------------NOTE: This edition has a linked "Table of Contents" and has been beautifully formatted for easy navigation. This is a Bible study method called "Block Sentence Diagramming". I learned this sentence diagramming approach to study the Bible in the seminary and in the last 25 years, I have been using this to prepare all my sermons and Bible studies. This series of Bible Books can be used for: 1. Personal Devotions 2. Bible study Preparations 3. Sermons 4. Sunday School 5. Personal Growth and spiritual enrichment You will see the Entire Book in Sentence Block Diagram Form & You see structure & themes at ONE Glance! This is a non-conventional method of Bible studies. It is to make the whole book in block sentence diagram so that you can absorb the major themes using this visual method. 1. Once you know the focus of each section, you can easily compile your own Bible Study notes. 2. You don't need to depend on Bible study outlines done by others. You would know the right questions to ask and discover the answers yourself through meditative studies. 3. When you see the final lay out of the sentence block diagram, you will have ready made (at least) 10 thematic sermons to preach with insights & great content. 4. A Brief Explanation is given to show you how the Sentence Block Diagram Works.5. A Brief Outline of the Book is Given.Enjoy Reading the Bible,Pastor Raymond and Rosa Suen

  • Author : Bruce Corley

  • Release : 2002-04-15
  • ISBN : 1433669455
  • Pages : 546 pages

Download or read book Biblical Hermeneutics written by Bruce Corley and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2002-04-15 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical Hermeneutics is a textbook for introductory courses in hermeneutics. It takes an interdisciplinary approach that is both balanced and practical with six major areas of focus: the history of biblical interpretation, philosophical presuppositions, biblical genre, the uniqueness of Scripture, the practice of exegesis, and use of exegetical insights that will be lived and communicated in preaching and teaching. Biblical Hermeneutics is designed for students who have little or no knowledge of biblical interpretation. It provides, in one volume, resources for gaining a working knowledge of the multi-faceted nature of biblical interpretation and for supporting the practice of exegesis on the part of the student. The first chapter "A Student's Primer for Exegesis" by Bruce Corley gives the student a bird's eye view of the entire process. It becomes for the student a kind of template to which they will return again and again as they engage in the process of exegesis. This revised edition of Biblical Hermeneutics contains seven new chapter that deal with the major literary genre of Scripture: law, narrative, poetry, wisdom, prophecy, Gospels and Acts, epistles, and apocalyptic. The unique nature of Scripture is presented in part three that addresses the authority, inspiration, and language of Scripture. The book contains two extensive appendices, "A Student's Glossary for Biblical Studies" and an updated and expanded version of "A Student's Guide to Reference Books and Biblical Commentaries.

Book Interpreting the General Letters

Download or read book Interpreting the General Letters written by Herbert W. Bateman IV and published by Kregel Academic. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is designed as a step-by-step approach for analyzing and communicating eight letters of the New Testament: Hebrews, James, the Petrine Letters, the Johannine Letters, and Jude. Interpreting the General Letters provides important background material for the interpretation of these books by exploring the types and component parts of letter writing, the importance of an amanuensis; the historical background of the Greco-Roman world, and implications of each of these factors for interpreting the general letters. This foundation is followed by a discussion of the theology of the general letters. Specific consideration is given to the era of promise in Hebrew Scriptures, the era of fulfillment as underscored in the general letters, and how the theology of each letter contributes to the overall canon of Scripture. Finally, Bateman provides nine steps that move from interpretation to communication: three steps for preparing to interpret the letters, three for interpreting, and finally three for communicating the letters. All explanations include examples in order to develop a student’s or pastor’s skills for accurate interpretation and convicting communication of God’s Word See page 21 for full series details.
