Although we have in every instance paid the best attention that our time and circumstances would permit, yet owing to the great diversity of topography, soil, climate, productions, etc., of this Coast, it was impossible to give any very definite or intelligible idea of the country by any written or verbal communication of ordinary length. Besides, it became a heavy tax on our time, not to say anything of the expense attached, as it costs writers something to live as well as other people.
