Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpreting EKGs is potentially serious business. It takes time and energy to become a proficient EKG reader. In Bonehead Electrocardiography, Dr. John R. Hicks and Dr. Floyd W. Burke offer a commonsense approach to learning how to read and interpret EKGs easily and intelligently. In this manual, arising from many years of teaching medical students, Hicks and Burke, both practicing adult cardiologists, delve into the how and why of the EKG. They discuss the core ideas and principles—the purpose of the EKG and how it is designed to accomplish its job. Beginning with a basic understanding and moving to more technical reading, Hicks and Burke provide an easy-to-understand map, strategies, and process for gaining better knowledge of the EKG. A powerful tool for medical students, nurses, EMTs, and other paramedical professionals, Bonehead Electrocardiography includes illustrations, pictures, charts, personal experience examples, case scenarios, and end-of-the-book practice questions to present a unique educational opportunity for those interested in learning to take the mystery out of reading EKGs.

Book Understanding Electrocardiography

Download or read book Understanding Electrocardiography written by Mary Boudreau Conover and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering all aspects of electrocardiography, this comprehensive resource helps readers picture the mechanisms of arrhythmias, their ECG patterns, and the options immediately available - as well as those available for a cure. Illustrations and descriptions help the reader visualize and retain knowledge on the mechanisms of cardiac rhythms to pave the way for a systematic approach to ECG recognition and emergency response. This new, eighth edition guarantees the best possible patient outcomes by providing complete coverage - from step-by-step instruction to the more advanced concepts of ECG monitoring. New chapters have been added on The Athlete's ECG, In-Hospital Ischemia Monitoring, and Brugada Syndrome. Clear, consistent writing and organization are featured throughout. The mechanisms of cardiac rhythms are explained and illustrated for easier comprehension. Knowledge builds logically from mechanisms of arrhythmias, axis, and normal rhythms, to arrhythmia recognition. Pediatric implications are provided for appropriate arrhythmias. Differential diagnoses for arrhythmias are provided to cover all the possibilities of the patient's clinical status. A consulting board made up of internationally known experts in ECG recognition assures the content is as accurate and up-to-date as possible. Revised and updated chapters include new information regarding mechanisms, risks, diagnosis, therapy, and cures - changing the way patients with arrhythmias and myocardial infarction are managed. The chapter on Congenital Long QT syndrome has been thoroughly revised with new information on the recognition of this inherited disease as well as its precipitating circumstances. The Acquired Long QT syndrome chapter has been thoroughly revised to describe this life-threatening arrhythmia and list all of the non-cardiac drugs that are now known to cause it. The Atrial Flutter chapter has been completely revised to incorporate new diagnostic techniques and improvements in acute and long-term management. A new chapter on Brugada Syndrome (Chapter 27) teaches early identification and treatment of those at risk of sudden death from this dangerous ECG pattern. A new Athlete's ECG chapter (Chapter 20) describes how intense physical training is associated with ECG patterns that are a consequence of physiologic adaptations of the heart. A new chapter on In-Hospital Ischemia Monitoring (Chapter 31) measures the patient's response to therapy and provides an important determinant for survival from myocardial infarction and ischemia.

Book Basic and Bedside Electrocardiography

Download or read book Basic and Bedside Electrocardiography written by Romulo F. Baltazar and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2012-03-28 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic and Bedside Electrocardiography is the first book to integrate the basics of ECG interpretation with the most recent clinical guidelines for treating patients with ECG abnormalities. Each concise, bulleted chapter discusses a disease state, gives many tracings as examples, provides clear illustrations of pathophysiology, and offers guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of specific entities. More than 600 illustrations aid readers in recognizing commonly encountered ECG abnormalities. Diagrammatic illustrations at the end of most chapters summarize the different ECG abnormalities discussed, to help readers recognize the different arrhythmias more easily. An appendix provides quick-reference information on commonly used intravenous agents.

This book was released on 2012-03-26 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrocardiography Review provides 150 carefully selected electrocardiogram case studies derived from Dr. Rimmerman’s files at the Cleveland Clinic. The electrocardiograms have been chosen to help maximize learning and ABIM Certifying Exam preparation, emphasizing concepts that are not traditionally taught in electrocardiogram courses or on the hospital wards. Each case appears on a two-page spread with a clinical history and full-size ECG on the left, and includes electrocardiogram interpretation, key teaching points with clinically relevant commentary, key clinical electrocardiogram diagnoses, and board examination essentials on the right. A recommended approach to ECG interpretation is presented for concept reinforcement, while a section on keys to a passing score outlines the critical components of optimal exam preparation. Finally, coding essentials with specific board exam diagnostic codes are provided for each tracing.

Download or read book Clinical Electrocardiography written by B L Chia and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1998-12-10 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third edition of the book which was first published in 1985. There has been tremendous progress in the last 10 years since the second edition, especially in the electrocardiography of acute myocardial infarction. With the advent of the thrombolytic era, many new insights into the electrocardiography of acute myocardial infarction have emerged. In this new edition, the sections on posterior myocardial infarction, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and anti-arrhythmic drug therapy have all been updated or revised. One of the strengths of the previous two editions has been the quality of the illustrations. In keeping with this tradition, the illustrations in this third edition have been improved further, with 57 (40%) of the 142 illustrations being new. Books, monographs and scientific papers on electrocardiography abound and it would appear that there is little justification for yet another book on this subject. However, despite the voluminous publications, it is difficult to find books on electrocardiography which are simple, concise, accurate and relevant to patient care. This book is the culmination of about 30 years of experience in the teaching of electrocardiography to coronary-care-unit nurses, medical undergraduates, interns, residents and cardiology registrars. As the title of the book implies, the approach to the subject has been entirely from the viewpoint of a clinician. Hence, theoretical considerations have been kept to a mimimum and clinical-electrocardiographic correlations have been emphasized throughout the text.
