Book Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites

Download or read book Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites written by C. Ageorges and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion bonding is one of the three methods available for joining composite and dissimilar materials. While the other two, mechanical fastening and adhesion bonding, have been the subject of wide coverage both in textbooks and monographs, fusion bonding is covered here substantially for the first time. Fusion bonding offers a number of advantages over traditional joining techniques and it is anticipated that its use will increase dramatically in the future because of the rise in the use of thermoplastic matrix composites and the growing necessity for recyclability of engineering assemblies. Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites provides an in-depth understanding of the physical mechanisms involved in the fusion bonding process, covering such topics as: - heat transfer in fusion bonding; - modelling thermal degradation; - consolidation mechanisms; - crystallisation kinetics; - processing-microstructure-property relationship; - full-scale fusion bonding; - fusion bonding of thermosetting composite/thermoplastic composite and metal/thermoplastic joints. The book focuses on one practical case study using the resistance welding process. This example exposes the reader to the development of processing windows for a novel manufacturing process including the use of experimental test programmes and modelling strategies.

Book Recent Advances in Structural Joints and Repairs for Composite Materials

Download or read book Recent Advances in Structural Joints and Repairs for Composite Materials written by Liyong Tong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joints in components or structures incur a weight penalty, are a source of failure, cause manufacturing problems, and are unfortunately unavoidable in most structures ranging from aircraft, and spacecraft to ships and offshore platforms, to automobiles, bridges and buildings. An important requirement for the complete design of practical structures is the development of attachment methods and joint designs. Recent Advances in Structural Joints and Repairs for Composite Materials provides an up-to-date account of adhesively bonded and mechanically fastened joints and repairs. Audience: This book will prove to be an informative resource for all engineers and researchers involved with joining and repair of composite structures.

Book Effects of Bearing bypass Load Interaction on Laminate Strength

Download or read book Effects of Bearing bypass Load Interaction on Laminate Strength written by S. P. Garbo and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this program was structural evaluation of mechanically fastened composite joints. An add-on contract effort was performed to further evaluate the effects of bearing/bypass interaction on laminate strength. The results of the add-on contract are the subject of this report. The work performed under the original contract indicated additional studies were needed to further verify bolted composite joint strength methodology. The objective of this add on effort was evaluation of bearing versus bypass load interactions on laminate strength. Three laminates from the family of 0 deg, + or - 45 deg, and 90 deg ply orientations were tested to failure under a range of tension bypass to bearing load ratios. Predictions of laminate strength were obtained using the Bolted Joint Stress Field Model (BJSFM) described in Volumes 1 and 3 of AFWAL-TR-81-3041. Failure behavior of laminates was documented using ultrasonic C-scan techniques, and failure zones about the fastener hole were correlated with predictions. This report documents test procedures, test data, and theory/test correlations.

Book Fibrous Composites in Structural Design

Download or read book Fibrous Composites in Structural Design written by Edward M. Lenoe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 858 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourth Conference on Fibrous Composites in Structural Design was a successor to the First-to-Third Conferences on Fibrous Composites in Flight Vehicle Design sponsored by the Air Force (First and Second Conferences, September 1973 and May 1974) and by NASA (Third Conference, November 1975) which were aimed at focusing national attention on flight vehicle applications of a new class of fiber reinforced materials, the advanced com posites, which afforded weight savings and other advantages which had not been previously available. The Fourth Conference, held at San Diego, California, 14-17 November 1978, was the fi rst of these conferences to be jointly sponsored by the Army, Navy and Ai r Force together with NASA, as well as being the first to give attention to non-aerospace applications of fiber reinforced composites. While the design technology for aerospace applications has reached a state of relative maturity, other areas of application such as mi litary bridging, flywheel energy storage systems, ship and surface vessel components and ground vehicle components are in an early stage of development, and it was an important objective to pinpoint where careful attention to structural design was needed in such applications to achfeve maximum structural performance payoff together with a high level of reliability and attractive economics.
