Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True crime story, set in 1963, in governmental circles, Canberra Australia. The Bogle Chandler murders garnered world attention. Brilliant Physicist Dr. Gilbert Bogle left a swingers New Year's Eve party with the wife of a colleague, Geoffrey Chandler. Early on New Year's Day the pair were found dead at Lane Cove, on the banks of a river. Forensics were unable to determine cause of death. This is a forensic numerological analysis in which I attempt to establish cause of death of Gilbert Bogle and Margaret Chandler, using my numerological expertise and research. The pair died at the height of the Cold War. Rumours abounded of Soviet spies, Communist Party agents, secrets sold, and an assassination hit on the brilliant scientist who it was said was about to release information the government wanted suppressed.

Book The Aesthetics of Violence in Contemporary Media

Download or read book The Aesthetics of Violence in Contemporary Media written by Gwyn Symonds and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-11-03 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of violence in the media seems as inundated as can be. Countless studies and research projects have been conducted, mostly to show its negative effects on society. What Gwynneth Symonds proposes, though, takes this significant topic one step further: studying the aesthetics of media violence. By defining key terms like the 'graphic' nature and 'authenticity' of violent representations, and discussing how those definitions are linked to actual violence outside the film and television screen, Symonds broadens the arena of study. Engagingly written, The Aesthetics of Violence in Contemporary Media fills an important gap. Symonds uses existing studies for the empirical audience reception data, together with discussions of the different representations of violence to look at violence in the media as an art form in of itself. By looking at The Simpsons, Bowling for Columbine and Norma Khouri's Forbidden Love, just to name a few, Symonds cross-analyzes violence in multiple media to see their affective role in audience reception - an important aspect when discussing media. The book strikes a balance between the readers' need to see how theory matches what actually happens in the texts in question and the demands of a theoretical overview.

Book Sailing on a Cusp and a Prayer

Download or read book Sailing on a Cusp and a Prayer written by Margaret Zeegers and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2024-03-03 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book where Jennifer Worth’s Call the Midwife meets Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes in Australia, with a nod to AB Facey’s A Fortunate Life, as it presents the early years of one migrant family’s experience after arriving by ship in Australia in the 1950s. Babies, marriages, childhoods, and relationships in general figure prominently not only for those arriving with their large families but also for the Australians who had a similar fertility. All of these have provided material for rollicking good yarns about the real people of the fictional parish, St Kitts, in a fictional country town in Victoria, Australia, going about their daily lives.

Download or read book Dr BOGLE and Mrs CHANDLER written by Peter Butt and published by Blackwattle Press. This book was released on 2016-08-20 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bogle-Chandler mystery is recognised as one of the most baffling cold cases in the annals of crime. The victims, brilliant physicist Dr Gilbert Bogle and Mrs Margaret Chandler, the wife of his colleague, were found dead on New Year's morning, 1963, beside the picturesque Lane Cove River. Investigators found no evidence to suggest how they had died and the bizarre manner in which the bodies were covered only added to the mystery. The police immediately suspected Margaret's husband Geoffrey Chandler as the killer. But despite drawing on the expertise of police and forensic agencies around the world, including the FBI, the coroner was unable to determine how the victims had met their fate.In his award-winning documentary Who Killed Dr Bogle & Mrs Chandler? investigative filmmaker Peter Butt presented stunning new evidence, which provided a solution to the mystery. Now comes Dr Bogle & Mrs Chandler ? the Confession in which Peter Butt delivers more intrigue, including the astonishing story of the person who covered the victims? bodies and how the prime suspect in the case, Geoffrey Chandler, was an undercover ASIO agent. The most sensational revelation - the explosive testimony of a retired psychologist concerning two previously unknown witnesses to the deaths. His testimony has thrust the case back onto the coroner's desk and could finally bring closure to the case.Professor Jo Duflou, the Head of Forensic Medicine, Sydney:'This really is quite amazing! It really is quite compelling isn't it? As I've pointed out before, every time you come up with something new, I try my hardest to disprove it'this time I'm having a real problem! When I told the coroner what you had sent me, she was captivated by this news. She also wondered out loud what she would do next'an inquest maybe? All I can say is that if what your new source says is true, then it pretty much means you've hit the nail on the head, and the mystery is finally solved, just over half a century after the event.'

Book The Best Film I Never Made

Download or read book The Best Film I Never Made written by Bruce Beresford and published by Text Publishing. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This entertaining collection of pieces from the acclaimed director of Breaker Morant, Driving Miss Daisy and Mao’s Last Dancer features memoirs, brief lives and revealing accounts of the film world. Alongside unsung heroes from behind the camera and producers of dubious repute are Madeleine St John and Clive James, Margaret Olley and Jeffrey Smart, as well as a particularly seductive 1963 EH Holden—and Bruce Beresford’s father, whose strange and startling decline in old age is charted in a brilliant, poignant essay. Opinionated, wry and engaging, The Best Film I Never Made will provoke and delight in equal measure. It is the ideal gift not only for cinema buffs but for anyone interested in music, art or literature. Bruce Beresford has directed more than two dozen films, including Breaker Morant, Tender Mercies, Driving Miss Daisy, Black Robe, Double Jeopardy and Mao’s Last Dancer. He has directed Rigoletto for the Los Angeles Opera and A Streetcar Named Desire for Opera Australia, and is the author of Josh Hartnett Definitely Wants to Do This. He lives in Sydney. ‘Beresford’s style resembles the action of a veteran wrist-spinner. His technique looks loose, even effortless. His sentences drift along genially for a while, then suddenly bite the pitch and turn...He isn’t merely smart by Hollywood standards. He is smart by any standard...In a world rife with philistines, he demonstrates that the best revenge is laughter, and living and working well.’ Australian ‘Beresford writes with skill and insight, humour.’ Otago Daily Times ‘This quirky collection of occasional writings from 2007 to 2017 paints a picture of a modest man with a curious mind...Beresford retains a wry sense of humour and an enjoyable willingness to share candid and unflattering details.’ Big Issue ‘A collection of warm, droll and often frank personal essays...An honest and reflective book.’ AU Review
