Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traveling Bodies: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Traveling as an Embodied Practice explores the central role the body has in and for traveling and thus complements and expands upon existing research in travel studies with new perspectives on and insights in the entanglement of bodies and traveling. The case studies assembled in this volume discuss a variety of traveling practices, experiences, and media with chapters featuring Asian, American, and European historical and contemporary perspectives. Truly interdisciplinary in its approach, the volume identifies and examines diverse literary, historical and cultural texts, contexts, and modes in which traveling and the body intersect, including ‘classic’ travelogues, (new) media (e.g., film, digital travel apps), surf culture, and travel-inspired tattoos. The contributions offer various avenues for further research, not only for scholars working with body theory and travel (writing), but also for anyone interested in the intersections of literature, culture, media, and embodied practices of traveling.

Download or read book Daydreaming and Fantasy Psychology Revivals written by Jerome L. Singer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daydreaming, our ability to give ‘to airy nothing a local habitation and a name’, remains one of the least understood aspects of human behaviour. As children we explore beyond the boundaries of our experience by projecting ourselves into the mysterious worlds outside our reach. As adolescents and adults we transcend frustration by dreams of achievement or escape, and use daydreaming as a way out of intolerable situations and to help survive boredom, drudgery or routine. In old age we turn back to happier memories as a relief from loneliness or frailty, or wistfully daydream about what we would do if we had our time over again. Why is it that we have the ability to alternate between fantasy and reality? Is it possible to have ambition or the ability to experiment, create or invent without the catalyst of fantasy? Are sexual fantasies an inherent part of human behaviour? Are they universal, healthy, destructive? Is daydreaming itself destructive? Or is it a force which facilitates change and which can even be harnessed to positive advantage? In this provocative book, originally published in 1975, the product of the previous twenty-five years of research, the author debates the nature and function of daydreaming in the light of his own experiments. As well as investigating what is a normal ‘fantasy-life’ and outlining patterns and types of daydreaming, he describes the role of daydreaming in schizophrenia and paranoia, examines the fantasies and hallucinations induced by drugs and also the nature of altered states of consciousness in Zen and Transcendental Meditation. Among the many topics covered, he explains how it is possible to help children enlarge their capacity for fantasy, how adults can make positive use of daydreaming and how people on the verge of disturbed behaviour are often unconscious of their own fantasies. Advances in scientific methods and new experimental techniques had made it possible at this time to monitor both conscious daydreaming and sub-conscious fantasies in a way not possible before. Professor Singer is one of the few scientists who have conducted substantial research in this area and it is his belief that the study of daydreaming and fantasy is of great importance if we are to understand the workings of the human mind.
Download or read book Welcome to Infinity written by Kathlyn Hinesley and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing in an entertaining, autobiographical style, Kathlyn Hinesley combines research in anthropology, history and science with personal psychic experience and metaphysical theory. She tackles questions related to: life after death, spirit communication, shamanism, alien visitations, out-of-body travel, time travel, sacred sites, and the nature of reality of itself. She enlightens the reader by showing how many of these topics are related and why. Welcome to Infinity presents us with an intriguing view of the universe: one that is home to a variety of otherworldly beings existing at different frequencies of vibration. Ms. Hinesley explores ancient and modern techniques for communicating and collaborating with these beings, and traveling to their realms. She describes the importance placed on human/spirit collaboration by ancient and native peoples, who viewed such contact as critical to the maintenance of harmony on earth. The author argues for a return to our roots: for a future in which humans and otherworldly beings work together for the good of the universe. "Kathlyn Hinesley deciphers our interactions with the higher vibrations of our ecosystem. This is the hard science of the future." -Rick Ramsey, Kozmic Engine

This book was released on 1961 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A direct descent is one in which the main descent propulsion system burns continuously from lunar approach to touchdown. The characteristic velocity requirement for direct lunar descents is presented as a function of the landing site location relative to the normal impact point. Results are included for translunar trip times of 60, 75, and 90 hours, for specific impulses representative of both Earth storable and cryogenic propulsion systems, for landing sites located anywhere on the lunar surface, and for ignition thrust-to-Earth weight ratios between 0.12 and 10.0. The data presented are useful in determining approximate performance capability and in evaluating tradeoffs during preliminary mission planning studies.
