Download or read book Body Painting written by Doug Mitchel and published by Wolfgang Publications. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Body Painting is a photo intense examination of the emerging art of painting bodies with non-toxic paints. From face painting children to the creation of painted “clothes” Doug Mitchel follows ten artists as they apply paint to skin. Each artist is represented by one chapter, each chapter follows a “paint job” from the initial concept to the application of the final details. Each design is different, but all are colorful and creative. With over 450 color photographs printed on 144 pages, this book documents the techniques and tools used by established artists. Application methods include the brush, airbrush and even markers. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, each has its place and each is covered in detail in this new book from Wolfgang Publications. In addition to the photo sequences with descriptive captions, each chapter includes an interview with the artist. Topics include the way in which the artist learned his or her trade, preferred tools and which paint they prefer to use. The discussion of paint choices includes airbrushed body make up, textile acrylics, liquid latex and markers from companies like Crayola. As pointed out in the captions and the interviews, each material has good points and bad, all are covered in Body Painting. The best teachers are the men and women who have already mastered the skill. Body Painting presents the accumulated wisdom and experience of ten “teachers” each of who has a lesson to share with the readers. With a wealth of photos Body Painting is both a colorful look at an emerging art form, and a very useful how-to book.

Book The Changing Boundaries and Nature of the Modern Art World

Download or read book The Changing Boundaries and Nature of the Modern Art World written by Richard Kalina and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concentrating on the shifting boundaries and definition of art, Richard Kalina offers a panoramic view of the contemporary art scene over the last 30 years. His focus is on the ongoing development of concepts, the transformation of art worlds and the social matrices in which they are created. Discussing painting in general and abstract painting in particular, his survey takes in photorealism, sculpture and art forms found outside of the modernist tradition. Kalina's group of artists includes Mel Bochner, Joan Mitchell, Cy Twombly, Franz West, and Alma Thomas who, in their ongoing projects, explicitly or implicitly questioned the aesthetic assumptions of their times. Merging an examination of animating philosophies and context - political, social, and personal - with a sharply focused look at the works of art themselves, Kalina brings us closer to understanding the social matrices in which art is embedded and responds to bigger questions about the object nature of the work of art in today's world.

Book Painted Bodies

Download or read book Painted Bodies written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full of magic and boldness, this unique volume presents dynamic photographs of bodies painted by artists for this project. The inspiration for this project comes from history: human beings have painted their bodies since the beginning of time. Christopher Colombus was faced by natives with painted bodies when he first set foot on American soil. To commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of the explorer's first voyage to the New World, natives of America once again appear with painted bodies. Forty-five Chilean painters, invited to participate in this project, express a diversity of approaches to body art, each one in keeping with their individual character. Some attempt to replicate primitive body painting, while others make full use of modern sophistication. The treatments vary widely, from "dressed" bodies, complete with lace and zippers, to bodies bearing street scenes or faces, to completely abstract paintings highlighting the expressionistic use of the body as canvas. The resulting collaboration is a collection of endlessly varied and thought-provoking photographs of the modern application of an ancient art.
