Book Jane Jensen

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anastasia Salter
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2017-04-06
  • ISBN : 1501327453
  • Pages : 199 pages

Download or read book Jane Jensen written by Anastasia Salter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1990s, the Personal Computer (or PC) was on the rise in homes, and with it came new genres of play. Yet most of the games in these new genres featured fantasylands or humorous science fiction landscapes with low stakes and little to suggest the potential of the PC as a serious space for art and play. Jane Jensen's work and landmark Gabriel Knight series brought a new darkness and personality to PC gaming, offering a first powerful glimpse of what games could be as they came of age. As an author and designer, Jensen brought her approach as a designer-writer hybrid to the forefront of game design, with an approach to developing environments through detailed research to make game settings come to life, an attention to mature dilemmas and complex character development, and an audience-driven vision for genres reaching beyond the typical market approaches of the gaming industry. With a brand new interview with Jensen herself, Anastasia Salter provides the first ever look Jensen's impact and role in advancing interactive narrative and writing in the game design process.

Book Alsike Clover

Download or read book Alsike Clover written by A. J. Pieters and published by . This book was released on 1921 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Alsike clover is most at home in northern latitudes or at high altitudes. It thrives best in a cool, moist climate. In the Ohio Valley alsike clover is especially adapted to low, wet, fertile land. On such land it will yield heavy crops of first-class hay and will make more than one crop in a season. This crop will grow on "sour" land on which red clover will not thrive. Where it is not possible to apply lime and so insure a stand of red clover, alsike clover may be used. Mixed with red clover on uplands, alsike clover insures a stand on spots where red clover does not catch. Alsike clover is used mostly in mixtures with timothy or other grasses. In such mixtures it improves the hay and increases the yield. The grasses serve to support the clover and make it easier to cut and cure. Alsike clover will endure overflow that would kill most crops. It has been know to grow a year in water-soaked and water-covered soil and make a heavy growth. In the South it is recommended for creek bottoms and other wet lands. It is a good clover to seed in swales or on wet, natural meadows. It volunteers readily and ill spread in such places. Its disadvantages are: (1)On uplands alsike clover grows short and does not make a mass of growth equal to that of red clover. (2)Alsike clover makes no second crop except on low, rich land. (3)On uplands the pasturage after cutting for hay or a seed crop is too small to be useful. (4)There appears to be some danger to horses and mules of a little-known disease said toe result from eating alsike clover."--P. [2]

Book Playing for Real

Download or read book Playing for Real written by K. G. Binmore and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-29 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ken Binmore's previous game theory textbook, Fun and Games (D.C. Heath, 1991), carved out a significant niche in the advanced undergraduate market; it was intellectually serious and more up-to-date than its competitors, but also accessibly written. Its central thesis was that game theory allows us to understand many kinds of interactions between people, a point that Binmore amply demonstrated through a rich range of examples and applications. This replacement for the now out-of-date 1991 textbook retains the entertaining examples, but changes the organization to match how game theory courses are actually taught, making Playing for Real a more versatile text that almost all possible course designs will find easier to use, with less jumping about than before. In addition, the problem sections, already used as a reference by many teachers, have become even more clever and varied, without becoming too technical. Playing for Real will sell into advanced undergraduate courses in game theory, primarily those in economics, but also courses in the social sciences, and serve as a reference for economists.

Book Growing Fruit for Home Use

Download or read book Growing Fruit for Home Use written by H. P. Gould and published by . This book was released on 1920 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Well-ripened sound fruit is healthful. It is also a valuable food. It should form a part of every meal, fresh where possible, or dried, canned or otherwise preserved. Home-grown fruit is desirable -- Because it reaches the family fresh and in the best possible condition. Because the family has fruit of which it would often be deprived if it had to be purchased. Because, if the proper varieties to be selected, a continuous supply of fruit of superior quality may be secured regardless of market prices. Because any surplus may be sold without difficulty or may be canned, evaporated, or otherwise conserved for use when fresh fruit is not available. Because the care of the home fruit garden provides for spare time congenial and profitable occupation which is in reality recreation for those who enjoy seeing things grow, This bulletin aims to furnish, in concise form, information that will be of practical help to the beginner in fruit growing. It deals with the widely grown, temperate-climate fruits, such as the apple, pear, peach, and plum. Lists of desirable varieties of these fruits are given for the different parts of the country. Because of the number of fruits considered and the territory covered, cultural directions are necessarily brief, but they cover the most important general points."--Page 2

Book Material Game Studies

Download or read book Material Game Studies written by Chloe Germaine and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume to apply insights from the material turn in philosophy to the study of play and games. At a time of renewed interest in analogue gaming, as scholars are looking beyond the digital and virtual for the first time since the inception of game studies in the 1990s, Material Game Studies not only supports the importance of the (re)turn to the analogue, but proposes a materiality of play more broadly. Recognizing the entanglement of physical materiality with cultural meaning, the authors in this volume apply a range of theoretical approaches, from material eco-criticism to animal studies, to examine games and play as existing within worlds of matter. Different chapters focus on the material properties of board, card and role-playing games, how they are designed and made, how they are touched and played with, and how they connect with other human and nonhuman things. Bringing together international scholars, Material Game Studies defines a new field of material game studies and demonstrates how it is a valuable addition to wider debates about the material turn and the place of embodied humans in a material world.
