Book Shame Management Through Reintegration

Download or read book Shame Management Through Reintegration written by Eliza Ahmed and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-10-15 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2001 book is a follow-on to John Braithwaite's best-selling and influential Crime, Shame and Reintegration. Shame management is becoming a central concept, in theoretical and practical terms. This book makes a major contribution to the advancement of shame in a theoretical sense. For criminology, as well as for psychology, sociology and other areas, this accessible book serves as an introduction to the concepts of shame, guilt and embarrassment. Presenting research by the Restorative Justice Centre at the Australian National University, the book contributes immeasurably to the development of practical alternatives to common sanctions in an effort to reduce crime and other social problems. Written by the key exponents of restorative justice, the book is an important re-statement of the theory and practice of shaming. It will develop important and often controversial debates about punishment, shaming and restorative justice to a new level.

Book Colour Vision Deficiencies XI

Download or read book Colour Vision Deficiencies XI written by B. Drum and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eleventh Symposium of the International Research Group on Colour Vision Deficiencies (IRGCVD) was held 20-23 June 1991 in Sydney, Aus tralia, ably hosted by local organizer Stephen Dain. A total of 35 talks and 10 posters were presented. Papers based on 37 of these presentations are included here, in Colour Vision Deficiencies XI. The scientific program featured sessions on three special topics, with each topic highlighted by an invited speaker. The opening session on the Genetics of congenital colour vision deficiencies began with a superb invited lecture by Charles Weitz about his pioneering work on the molecular genetics of tritanopia. The session on the second special topic, Spatial aspects of colour vision, began with the launching of a new IRGCVD tradition, as 1991 Verriest Memorial Award recipient Harry Sperling presented the first Ver riest Memorial Lecture on his recent studies of spatial discrimination of heterochromatic stimuli. Dr. Sperling reported new evidence that certain asymmetries in red-green opponent colour vision can be explained by the spatial organization of colour-opponent retinal neurons. In the third special session, on Occupational aspects of colour vision, Barry Cole took the audi ence on a fascinating tour of the historical development of colour vision standards in his invited lecture entitled 'Does defective colour vision really matter?'. In addition to the three special topics, many interesting presentations were given in topical sessions on Variations in normal colour vision, Acquired colour vision deficiencies and Colour vision tests and testing methods.

Book Using Theory to Improve Program and Policy Evaluations

Download or read book Using Theory to Improve Program and Policy Evaluations written by Huey-tsyh Chen and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1992-05-20 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays edited by Huey-tsyh Chen and Peter H. Rossi underscores the importance of theory in program evaluation and analyzes the nature and implications of theory-driven evaluations. Scholars from different disciplines cover a wide range of issues, such as functions of program theory, the interface between theory and methods, strategies for formulating theory, cost and resource constraints, different types of theory-driven evaluations, and the future implications of such evaluations. This broad-based analysis is designed for interdisciplinary audiences in all the social sciences, including political scientists, sociologists, and public administrators. This policy study analysis points to four types of theory that guide evaluations and describe theory-driven metaevaluation. Five approaches are used to analyze research strategies and methods. Three applications offer insights into programs and policies and their implementation--multigoal theory-driven approaches, programs for the homeless, and children's mental health services. Five chapters examine applications in impact assessment and cost-benefit analysis--the importance of theory in selection modeling, the impact of plant closings, research-based theory for educational planning and evaluation, using meta-analysis in evaluation, and theory-driven approaches to cost-benefit analysis.

Book The Development and Treatment of Childhood Aggression

Download or read book The Development and Treatment of Childhood Aggression written by Kenneth H. Rubin and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprised of papers and commentaries from the Earlscourt Symposium on Childhood Aggression held in Toronto, Canada, this volume reflects the Earlscourt Child and Family Centre's commitment to linking clinical practice to identifiable research-based interventions which are known to be effective in the prevention and treatment of antisocial behavior in children. The education of human services professionals has typically failed to train individuals to work with specific client populations, providing a generalist approach grounded in theoretical assumptions and professional values rather than research and empirical studies. This compelling book serves to fill this gap in professional education in the area of childhood aggression. Representing substantial accomplishments in the advancement of an understanding of the plight of aggressive children and how best to ameliorate their often unpredictable and painful situations, this text allows for cautious optimism that empirical research can have practical consequences for aggressive children and their prospects for a better life. As such, it is a truly important information resource for professionals in the fields of developmental psychology and counseling.
