Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tantra is a family of rituals modeled on those of the Vedas and their attendant texts and lineages. These rituals typically involve the visualization of a deity, offerings, and the chanting of his or her mantra. Common variations include visualizing the deity in the act of sexual union with a consort, visualizing oneself as the deity, and "transgressive" acts such as token consumption of meat or alcohol. Most notoriously, non-standard or ritualized sex is sometimes practiced. This accounts for Tantra's negative reputation in some quarters and its reception in the West primarily as a collection of sexual practices. Although some today extol Tantra's liberating qualities, the role of women remains controversial. Traditionally there are two views of women and Tantra. Either the feminine is a metaphor and actual women are altogether absent, or Tantra involves the transgressive use of women's bodies to serve male interests. Loriliai Biernacki presents an alternative view, in which women are revered, worshipped, and considered worthy of spiritual attainment. Her primary sources are a collection of eight relatively modern Tantric texts written in Sanskrit from the 15th through the 18th century. Her analysis of these texts reveals a view of women that is generally positive and empowering. She focuses on four topics: 1) the "Kali Practice," in which women appear not only as objects of reverence but as practitioners and gurus; 2) the Tantric sex rite, especially in the case that, contrary to other Tantric texts, the preference is for wives as ritual consorts; 3) feminine language and the gendered implications of mantra; and 4) images of male violence towards women in tantric myths. Biernacki, by choosing to analyse eight particular Sanskrit texts, argues that within the tradition of Tantra there exists a representation of women in which the female is an authoritative, powerful, equal participant in the Tantric ritual practice.

Through the trails of life an orphan is forged into a hero. www.sinexia.net ATONUS L. PERRY has always been fascinated with tales of fantasy and wonder. Being the son of a librarian, he spent many of his weekends and summers reading books. The only thing he loved more than reading was indulging in creative writing. As he matured he began to take an interest in Japanese animation, comic books, and role playing video games. After immersing himself in the media storylines he loved so much, he discovered that there was not enough action in most of the stories he loved. So, he vowed to one day write a story that was not lacking in action. One day, after an assignment in one of his college English classes called for an outline of an epic adventure, he made good on that vow and began writing stories that deliver page turning action. He writes for the people who feel dissatisfied with the stories they love so much. Atonus L. Perry lives in Shreveport, Louisiana with his son, Isaiah Alexander Perry.

Book The Full Moon Yearbook

Download or read book The Full Moon Yearbook written by Julie Peters and published by David and Charles. This book was released on 2023-11-28 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the full moon rises in the night sky, it's hard not to be captivated by the light that streams down on earth from our closest celestial neighbour. Even in the modern age, drenched in artificial light, the full moon has a magic that speaks to our most primal selves. This magic was recognised throughout human history, and lives on in the names various cultures have given each full moon as it rises above us. The Full Moon Yearbook combines Native American culture, Medieval Celtic Culture, East Asian culture and Witchcraft to dive into the stories that have led to names like February's Budding Moon, or November's Frost Moon. Over thirteen chapters, the names and mythology associated with each full moon are explored, as well as corresponding crystals, rituals, and yoga practices to make engaging with the energy of the full moon natural and fun. That thirteenth chapter is dedicated to the Blue moon, and in The Full Moon Yearbook readers will discover the reason why this mysterious moon appears in our night skies, along with its even more elusive friend, the Black Moon. Alongside the folk names, The Full Moon Yearbook highlights some of the goddesses that have been dedicated to, or personified, the moon in ancient religions, bringing their stories to life. With the international perspective, lunar festivals and customs from around the world and practical makes and recipes to help celebrate the full moon are included in this illustrated guide, showing how important the full moon has been throughout history to humankind. The Full Moon Yearbook is perfect for anyone who has ever felt a pull towards living in harmony with the moon, and longs to be living a lunar-inspired life.

Book excerpt: My nails made little moons in my palms. Middle-aged women might have froth and bubble on their upper layers but underneath, we were tidal waves. Death is coming for me, of that there is no doubt. My hair greys quicker than before, as if she already has a grip. Life with Ezra and our daughter is joyful, but the city is strange. Footsteps trail in the snow where no man has walked. An unexpected migration of birds clouds the London sky. The book buried in the grove of the cottage whispers to me, even though I ignore it. When the Wild Hunt sounds its horns and the blue goddess rides, the drumbeat of doom fills the Otherworld. Gaia is jittery, more bride than warrior. I am her champion, though I have no experience of leading an army. Though I prefer compassion to my obsidian blade. As magical factions take sides, the only constant is treachery. The new Prime Sorceress wants an alliance, but after her betrayal of Ezra, how can I trust her? As my power curls within me, Rayna’s diaries illuminate a way out of the darkness and I dare to hope destiny favours me. It all comes down to this. Blood, graft, loyal friends and a handful of multivitamins. Together, we’ll stop the rogue gods from reforging humanity in their hateful image. Book The Goddess Virgo

Download or read book The Goddess Virgo written by Peter Howe and published by Mereo Books, mereobook, mereobooks. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of traumatic experiences in his youth drew Peter Howe to the spiritual side of life. After he developed a mental illness and became dependent on medication, he began to experience supernatural encounters. These episodes were so vivid and detailed that he has decided to record them in a book. The Goddess Virgo and Her Relationship with Christianity is a 'supernatural biography' which recounts Peter's spiritual experiences, from his encounters with the Goddess Virgo to visitations from alien spirits which subjected him to interrogation and contact with creatures he recognised as representatives of the Devil. A spiritual experience linked to the iconography of ancient Egypt led to his joining the Fellowship of Isis, an international spiritual organization devoted to promoting awareness of the Goddess Isis. Peter's experiences intensified after the death of his mother in 2003 and they still continue today. They have led him to some personal conclusions about the nature of the connection between Christianity and the Goddess Virgo, whom he believes is a merger between a woman from ancient times and a spiritual person of an alien race, and a reinterpretation of the Old Testament's Book of Revelations.

Book Buddhist Goddesses of India

Download or read book Buddhist Goddesses of India written by Miranda Shaw and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-08-25 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Indian Buddhist world abounds with goddesses--voluptuous tree spirits, maternal nurturers, potent healers and protectors, transcendent wisdom figures, cosmic mothers of liberation, and dancing female Buddhas. Despite their importance in Buddhist thought and practice, these female deities have received relatively little scholarly attention, and no comprehensive study of the female pantheon has been available. Buddhist Goddesses of India is the essential and definitive guide to divinities that, as Miranda Shaw writes, "operate from transcendent planes of bliss and awareness for as long as their presence may benefit living beings." Beautifully illustrated, the book chronicles the histories, legends, and artistic portrayals of nineteen goddesses and several related human figures and texts. Drawing on a sweeping range of material, from devotional poetry and meditation manuals to rituals and artistic images, Shaw reveals the character, powers, and practice traditions of the female divinities. Interpretations of intriguing traits such as body color, stance, hairstyle, clothing, jewelry, hand gestures, and handheld objects lend deep insight into the symbolism and roles of each goddess. In addition to being a comprehensive reference, this book traces the fascinating history of these goddesses as they evolved through the early, Mahayana, and Tantric movements in India and found a place in the pantheons of Tibet and Nepal."--Publisher's website.
