Download or read book Meaningful Pasts written by Russell Johnston and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Meaningful Pasts, Russell Johnston and Michael Ripmeester explore two strands of identity-making among residents of the Niagara region in Ontario, Canada. First, they describe the region’s official narratives, most of which celebrate the achievements of white settlers with a mix of storytelling, rituals, and monuments. Despite their presence in local lore and landmarks, these official narratives did not resonate with the nearly one thousand residents who participated in five surveys conducted over eleven years. Instead, participants drew on contemporary people, places, and events. Second, the authors explore the emergence of Niagara’s wine industry as a heritage narrative. The book shares how the survey participants embraced the industry as a local identifier and indicates how the industry’s efforts have rekindled the residents’ interest in agriculture as a significant element of regional heritage and local identities. Revealing how the profiles of local narratives and commemorations become entwined with social, cultural, economic, and political power, Meaningful Pasts illuminates the fact that local narratives retain their relevance only if residents find them meaningful in their day-to-day lives.

Download or read book Bloom written by Princess Vivian Izundu and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bloom was born out of intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus and was written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, including the title and the cover design. He prompted the author that she has learned and known a lot and that it was time for her to share with others. Most often, people do not cherish and appreciate others even though the Bible tells us to encourage one another. Bloom is about how your Maker sees you, cherishes, appreciates, and values you. He cheers you on to keep going even when the things around us are screaming the opposite. He wants you to know who you are, what you have in Him, and how to make use of them. He is inviting you today to read, learn, and bloom like a watered flower plant. It is a book like no other, unique in itself. It expounds on who believers are in Christ and what they have, together with how to practically walk this faith walk and fight the good fight of faith on a daily basis. A peek into the book will convince you.

Download or read book The Anatomy of Bloom written by Alistair Heys and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here at last is a comprehensive introduction to the career of America's leading intellectual. The Anatomy of Bloom surveys Harold Bloom's life as a literary critic, exploring all of his books in chronological order, to reveal that his work, and especially his classic The Anxiety of Influence, is best understood as an expression of reprobate American Protestantism and yet haunted by a Jewish fascination with the Holocaust. Heys traces Bloom's intellectual development from his formative years spent as a poor second-generation immigrant in the Bronx to his later eminence as an international literary phenomenon. He argues that, as the quintessential living embodiment of the American dream, Bloom's career-path deconstructs the very foundations of American Protestantism.
