On the other hand, Helena Whitman who knew little of love or kindness, her gift was for survival. Then astonishingly, love blossoms between them, and for a while, it seems that nothing can tear them apart. However, can their love endure when it separates Eric from the world he cherishes? This is the story of a love that yearns to flower despite every obstacle, the kind of love that endures the hardships of the East London slums. The first time he saw her she was in a gallery, standing right in front of one of his pictures. To Eric De Milo, a young artist in London, she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Download or read book RELATIONAL DATABASES AND DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A database is a logically organised collection of related data, generally accessed by a set of programs known as a Database Management System (DBMS), which oversees the creation and use of the database and controls access to the data. The organisation of a database obviates the need to duplicate information to meet the various requirements of different groups of users, and ensures that the data always remains consistent. A large database requires extensive storage facilities. In some organisations and services, databases can be accessed over networks from microcomputers or as videotex. 'Relational' databases and hypertext techniques include extensive and complex cross-reference facilities so that information on related items may be retrieved. Many database programs have been designed to run on micro-computers. Some of these contain computer languages that enable users to change the operation of the database to suit their requirements.
Download or read book Interactive Systems written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interactive systems respond to instructions from users fast enough to allow transactions to be completed almost immediately. While the precise structure of the future interactive systems is not yet clear, many directions of growth seem apparent. The current designs and organisation of databases obviate the need to duplicate information in order to meet the various requirements of different groups of users, thus ensuring that the data always remain consistent. Additionally, the use of relational databases enable the Internet users a number of essential services; including data transfer, electronic mail and the ability to access information in remote databases. Integrated systems, therefore, are connected services making it possible for users to communicate with each other anywhere on the network. The safe running of systems needs to keep information protected from harm, theft, vandalism, fraud and invasion of privacy, which means continuous security development of software and hardware devices.
Download or read book INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 436 pages of six books (integrated into one tome) include Information Technology, Management, Artificial Intelligence, Internet, Expert Systems, Systems Analysis, Computing, Risk Management, and Change Management. In writing this volume, the author took into consideration the advance of today's information technology and computing in general, the principles of work and leisure alike, factory and business operations, networking, defence, medicine, education and the domestic environment. Also, the social concerns that computers and their systems influence our attitudes to privacy, and employment. Although the world of computing became smaller with new ultra-small computing systems, equipped with wireless networking systems worldwide, the reader can appreciate that the construction of such systems is as complex as a house built in a swamp. It does, therefore, require careful planning and design. Just as a house must have an architect's plan, so does a system.

Download or read book POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY FOR GOVERNMENTS PEOPLE written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes simple definitions of philosophical concepts of great thinkers from around the world. Currently, the latest views of politics and the philosophical aspects of these are not helping any peaceful solutions; with the world powers striving for attention to their megalomaniac ambitions. The remarks that walls must be built to keep immigrants out, trade embargos and leaders of being weak are all negative. 'Fools build walls, wise men build bridges' makes sense and ought to encourage people to read more about political philosophy. This isolationistic attitude can be clearly defined by the psychotherapeutic branch of philosophy. In old age people regress to the earliest stages of their development. Thus Presidents, Prime Ministers and Leaders of Governments bear the same syndromes of regressive behaviour. In feeling omni-powerful the bigger nations take advantage of disagreements and conflicts; when they consider it appropriate to invade and cause havoc among the minorities.
Download or read book Democracy Types Historical Influences written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-03-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of democracy as a system of government the reader must remember that this sovereignty rests with the whole people, who rule either directly or through representatives. In the contemporary world, democracy is closely associated with the idea of choosing governments by periodic free multiparty elections. The chief elements of representative democracy are: Freedom of speech and expression; Periodic free elections; the right to form competing parties to contest these elections; a government which is responsible to the legislature and to public opinion. Where one or more of these elements is absent, the system is unlikely to be genuinely democratic. There has also been pressure for more democracy at a lower level, particularly in the way that work is organised. The social conditions for stable democratic government have been considered, with the level of economic development. Thus, the advanced capitalist societies are nearly all representative democracies.
Download or read book Philosophy of Mind written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The philosophy of the mind deals with the examination of problems revolving around the concept of the mind. The mental may be distinguished from the physical in various ways: intentionality and consciousness provide important features of mental states. An important part of the argument is the claim that mental states are known in a special way: they are directly given, transparent to their owner and known infallibly. Monist and materialist believe that reality is physical and explained by natural science; sought in various ways to understand the mind in material terms. Behaviourism advocates that psychology should concern itself exclusively with observation of behaviour, disregarding introspection altogether. Others propose that mental states are the same as states of the brain. Dissatisfaction with these overly simple attempts to incorporate the mental into the physical realm led to the development of functionalism.
Download or read book ETHOS Individual Social Cultural Institutional written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethos takes account of the character, sentiment, manners, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution and the predominant characteristics of a racial culture. In rhetoric, this is the speakers' or writer's character or emotions, articulated in the attempt to persuade an audience. Ethos is distinguished from pathos, which is the emotion the speaker or writer hopes to induce in the audience. The two concepts were well known in a broader sense by ancient Classical authors, who used pathos when referring to the violent emotions and ethos to mean the calmer ones. Ethology deals with the behaviour in a natural environment and investigates the development of systems of morals; now more generally, the science of human character. Ethology is particularly concerned with the animal's interactions with others of the same species and the function of behaviour and how the evolution of behaviour has been influenced by natural selection.

Download or read book Instincts and Mechanism of Behaviour written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-05 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An instinct is the mechanism by which animals and humans can perform complex behaviour patterns without learning or conscious effort. Instinctive behaviours are inherited and have evolved to be adaptive, fitting the organism to its particular role. Instinct is of particular importance in animal behaviours such as courtship, mating, and other reproductive activities. More general behaviours such as feeding and defence may have an instinctive base. Many birds, some grasshoppers, frogs, and a number of other animals have song or call patterns that attract mates and are based upon instinct. Instinctive behaviours often require a stimulus or releaser to initiate them. The herring-gull chick pecks the red spot on the adult's bill, releasing its instinctive feeding behaviour. A releaser will operate only if conditions, both internal and external to the organism, are suitable.
Download or read book HELLENISM CLASSICAL MODERN DIASPORA written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-07-28 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hellenic Diaspora (Dispersion) is the collective term for the process which began with the accelerated destruction of the captured Greek territories by the Roman Empire. Some Greeks interpret diaspora as exile, others as a positive aspect of Hellenism's ethnic and spiritual destiny, who remained loyal to their faith, ethnicity and homeland. The beheading of Archimedes was the beginning of the brain drain of Greeks to the Middle East, Asia and Northern Africa. The existence of these diaspora communities was also an important factor in the spread of Christianity. By the early Middle Ages Europe was the centre of Hellenic scholarship, but from the time of the Crusaders, anti-orthodoxy and the persecution of Hellenes begun. Eastern Europe welcomed Greek victims of persecution and by the 17th century Eastern Europe had become the diaspora's centre, until the massacres of the 1821 and 1915 by the Ottomans, thus many Greeks migrated to Germany, Britain and the USA.
Download or read book TECHNOLOGICAL INTEGRATIONS written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of technology and its integrations includes the scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to the change and manipulation of the human environment. Circa 3000 years BC many new technologies were developed; irrigation systems, road networks and wheeled vehicles, a pictographic form of writing and new building techniques. The new ideas and techniques engendered official persecution, but by the mid-17th century the tide of opinion had changed. By the late 17th century, technology essentially meant engineering. During the 19th century science began to create new technologies. This continued into the 20th century with the introduction of computing, Internet, Artificial Intelligence and other services made possible only because of further advances in science. In recent years Western aid has sought to develop appropriate technologies, using local materials and techniques, in partnership with the indigenous peoples.
Download or read book Analysis of Logic and Sanity written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the ages man has been pre-occupied with logic, sanity and moral standards, probably more than other concepts. Societies through their various stages of evolution varied the theme with distinct differences in their demands on standards, dogmas, and regional culture. These variations of morality place a big demand on science. Individuals from different cultures, social groups, of known and unknown social norms may occupy the practitioner's couch; the significance of this being the understanding demanded of the therapist. People live in groups and humans choose to live in groups, simply for what they can get out of society. Those who choose to live in solitude become recluse in monasteries and nunneries, or become thinkers in isolation high up in mountains. The causation theory regarding the logic and sanity analysis in this book includes the seemingly necessary connection between one event (the cause) and the other (the effect).
