Download or read book Aesthetics of Fraudulence in Nineteenth Century France written by Scott Carpenter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his engagingly written and original book, Scott Carpenter analyzes multiple manifestations of the false in nineteenth-century France. Under Carpenter's thorough and systematic analysis, fraudulence emerges as a cultural preoccupation in nineteenth-century literature and society, whether it be in the form of literary mystifications, the thematic portrayal of frauds, or the privileging of falseness as an aesthetic principle. Focusing particularly on the aesthetics of fraudulence in works by Mérimée, Balzac, Baudelaire, Vidocq, Sand, and others, Carpenter places these literary representations within the context of other cultural phenomena, such as caricature, political history, and ceremonial events. As he highlights the special relationship between literary fiction and fraudulence, Carpenter argues that falseness arises as an aesthetic preoccupation in post-revolutionary France, where it introduces a blurring of limits between hitherto discrete categories. This transgression of boundaries challenges notions of authenticity and sincerity, categories that Romantic aesthetics championed at the beginning of the nineteenth century in France. Carpenter's study makes an important contribution to the cultural significance of mystification in nineteenth-century France and furthers our understanding of French literature and cultural history.

They share a generosity of spirit, a desire for change, and a savage compassion for those who must be changed." David Jones (director)

After things got underway, there's an episode when Bard lands in the middle of an explosion that rocked the courtyard. The next-day Leon's followers withstood a brutal assault worthy of the Queen of the lunar Madness herself. Leon remained calm as the Queen hurled bolts of energy that erupted into pillars of flame. What could they do to save the situation?. "Funny," remarked Quill" Previously, the Demon Queen spoke perfectly good English, there was no color in her cheeks as the tears ran down her face. " Is this a Goddess.Quill remarked, or is it but a vision?" Blackstone commented there was fright in his voice. "If the situation was real he feared they'd all be killed." Download or read book Legend Tripping Online written by Michael Kinsella and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2011-05-17 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the Internet, seekers investigate anonymous manifestos that focus on the findings of brilliant scientists said to have discovered pathways into alternate realities. Gathering on web forums, researchers not only share their observations, but also report having anomalous experiences, which they believe come from their online involvement with these veiled documents. Seeming logic combines with wild twists of lost Moorish science and pseudo-string theory. Enthusiasts insist any obstacle to revelation is a sure sign of great and wide-reaching efforts by consensus powers wishing to suppress all the liberating truths in the Incunabula Papers (included here in complete form). In Legend-Tripping Online, Michael Kinsella explores these and other extraordinary pursuits. This is the first book dedicated to legend-tripping, ritual quests in which people strive to explore and find manifest the very events described by supernatural legends. Through collective performances, legend-trippers harness the interpretive frameworks these stories provide and often claim incredible, out-of-this-world experiences that in turn perpetuate supernatural legends. Legends and legend-tripping are assuming tremendous prominence in a world confronting new speeds of diversification, connection, and increasing cognitive load. As guardians of tradition as well as agents of change, legends and the ordeals they inspire contextualize ancient and emergent ideas, behaviors, and technologies that challenge familiar realities. This book analyzes supernatural legends and the ways in which the sharing spirit of the internet collectivizes, codifies, and makes folklore of fantastic speculation.

Book excerpt: Tourism has become a major international industry, with many countries all over the world relying on the income it produces. Because it is a major source of finances and employment, government and other institutions activitely promote tourism, regardless of the impact on the environment, ecology and social structure of the region. The demands of tourism can contribute to the destruction of the natural and cultural environment upon which it depends. The natural and cultural landscape's capacity to accommodate the local and worldwide effects of tourism, the typology thereof and its implications for the economy and society constitute very important study objectives. The development of tourism can result in the degradation of natural landscapes that paradoxically attract tourists to such areas.
