Book excerpt: From the author of Iron Kin and Shadow Kin--a new novel of fantasy, romance, and adventure... Imagine a city divided. A city where human and Fae magic rests uneasily next to the vampire Blood and the shapeshifting Beasts. A city where a fragile peace is brokered by a treaty that set the laws for all four races…a treaty that is faltering day by day. I didn’t plan on becoming a thief and a spy. But options are limited for the half-breed daughter of a Fae lord. My father abandoned me but at least I inherited some of his magic, and my skills with charms and glamours mean that few are as good at uncovering secrets others wish to hide. Right now the city has many secrets. And those who seek them pay so well… I never expected to stumble across a Templar Knight in my part of the city. Guy DuCaine is sworn to duty and honor and loyalty—all the things I’m not. I may have aroused more than his suspicion...but he belongs to the Order and the human world. So when treachery and violence spill threaten both our worlds, learning to trust each other might be the only thing that saves us. But even if a spy and a holy knight can work together, finding the key to peace is never going to be easy…

Book excerpt: Some the works included in this compilation are poems written as far back as my early high school days when the force of adolescence made the fire of dreams burn ever so violently. Those were moments of godly voyages where it was simply impossible to sleep or lay still. So much of the inspiration then came from building dreams and new dreams and more new dreams. But reality always will be the master of dreams, creating errands that will eventually suck up all its energy and make climbing up unattainable. Now, the inspiration will come from this frustration making us, me pick up the bitter pen. Still, in between we would catch a glimpse of paradise and smile, for believe it or not, when the longings of the heart is ignited the fire of desire never would cease to burn. So now and again, our love songs would overwhelm our freedom songs and with that youthful might, our innocent eyes would merge and the rest will be history. Later, we would do the fire dance, play the moonlight games and climb far up the hill where our hearts would be shut to warnings. Our returns often will bring fathers and mothers crying beneath, worried about the future when actually there is no future but new fathers and mothers that will one day stand on same spot and cry. Yes. My inspiration, by and by, would emerge from the fallen breasts that have failed to nurture the promising infants, fathers that will hurriedly build their own coffins courting greed: cowards fighting battles but running from wars. Africa has thought me a lot, she would lift me up to the skies and tell me to kiss the sun; she would invite the moon and cover my eyes with stars; she would summon the lions and tigers and bears, and make the fearful giants wash my feet; but now she cringe at the sound of rain, tiny skeleton beckoning death she permanently crouch over the baobab tree and this sight make me cry. That is my pain that is my song. I hope you will enjoy these collections. And I wish a few of you really would be able to "dance" to it, for there is nothing wrong with dancing only my own dance, sorry, brings lotta old dances gone.

Book African Literature and the Politics of Culture

Download or read book African Literature and the Politics of Culture written by James Tar Tsaaior and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book essentially negotiates African literature as a veritable site of artistic and cultural production and situates it within the dynamic of postcolonial cultural politics. It critically evaluates African literature as a contour of cultural contestation with the imperial politics of knowledge production about others and as an ideological strategy for knowing them. The book’s main contribution to the critical discourse on African literature and culture inheres in the fact that politics constitutes the enduring concern of society as it re/shapes and over-determines discourses which have continued to remain crucial to societal engineering. It, however, imagines the discursive existence as necessary for the evolving of a dynamic African literary tradition with an abiding fidelity to the verities of history. The book is useful for literary scholars, historians, critics, experts and students of postcolonial/cultural studies as well as general readership interested in African studies.
