Download or read book Blood Salt Spring written by Hannah Lavery and published by Birlinn Ltd. This book was released on 2022-03-03 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Hannah Lavery, Edinburgh's Makar. 'Speaks to and for the conflicted conscience of Scotland ... with a power and authenticity like perhaps no other' – The Scotsman In a moment that is demanding you to constantly choose your side, how do you find your humanity, your own voice, when you are being pushed to find safety in numbers? Blood Salt Spring is a meditation on where we are – exploring ideas of nation, race and belonging. Much of the collection was written in lockdown and speaks to that moment, the isolation and the traumas of 2020 but it also looks to find some meaning and makes an attempt to heal the pain and vulnerabilities that were picked and cut open again in the recent cultural shifts and political wars. Organised into three sections this book takes the reader on a journey from the old inherited wounds, the trauma of tearing open again these chasms within recent discourses and events, to a hopeful spring, where pain and trauma can be laid down and a new future can be imagined. In this collection, the poet has sought to heal these salted wounds, and move out of winter and into spring – into hope. The National Theatre of Scotland has launched a new digital visual album, Blood, Salt, Spring - a digital accompaniment to Hannah Lavery's collection. You can view the visual album here .

Book excerpt: Ricciardi has visions. He sees and hears the final seconds in the lives of victims of violent deaths. It is both a gift and a curse. It has helped him become one of the most acute and successful homicide detectives in the Naples police force. But all that horror and suffering has hollowed him out emotionally. He drinks and doesn't sleep. Other than his loyal partner Brigadier Maione he has no friends. Naples, 1931. In a working class apartment in the Sanita' neighborhood an elderly woman by the name of Carmela Calise has been beaten to death. When Ricciardi and Maione arrive at the scene they start asking the neighbors questions. No one wants to talk but slowly a few interesting facts slip out. Carmela Calise was moonlighting as a fortuneteller and moneylender. In her decrepit apartment she would receive clients, among them some of the city's rich and powerful, predicting their futures in such a way as to manipulate and deceive. If economic ruin lurked in their futures, Calise was happy to help. For a price, of course. She had many enemies, those indebted to her, manipulated by her lies, disappointed by her prophesies or destroyed by her machinations. Murder suspects in this atmospheric thriller abound and Commissario Ricciardi, one of the most original and intriguing investigators in contemporary crime fiction, will have his work cut out for him.

In this book we travel along with him.And we are able to share in his stirring experiences, in sensitive discoveries and the wondrous insights that he was able to gain. He has not compiled them for himself, but for us all.Perhaps he could only manage his adventures travels, bear the travails and overcome some resistance because the spiritual world was on his side accompanied him, encouraged him and led him with direct guidance. These received messages are also an essential and moving part of this book, and are a special feature is astonishing. As is the telling of the tale of the spiritual and material creation, and the fact that Mother Earth is alive and is conscious; our ancestors had not yet forgotten this.He also leads us through the destruction of the environment, climate changes and the increasing natural catastrophes. What have we done?At the same time, he presents us with solution paths, gives us courage and hope in this dramatic turning point; it is not yet too late!Hence, GAIA LEGACY is much more than a travel report and insight into the power points. It is one can say without exaggeration an incomparable book full of awakening and strength, just as the fifteenth power source
