Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A zombie killer-for-hire faces off against a dangerous undead overlord in this post-apocalyptic science fiction horror series debut. I am not going to complain to you about my life. We’ve got zombies. They are not the brainless, rotting creatures we’d been led to expect. Unfortunately for us, they’re just as smart as they were before they died, very fast, much stronger than you or me, and possess no internal editor at all. Claws. Did I mention claws? I kill them for a living, but it’s as much a vocation as a freelance career choice. It helps me, helps my neighborhood, and the people I consider to be my family of choice. What’s more? I’m really good at it. My life had a nice rhythm, and I'd almost gotten used to it, but the military bungled an attempt to wipe out an organized bunch of undead near a major commuting route into D.C. The formerly-human survivors relocated. Now they’re less than an hour’s stroll away from where I live. The new Zombie Overlord is smarter, crazier, and much more well-equipped than anyone we’d dealt with in the past. We have something he wants, badly. I know he’s going to come and get it and try and wipe us out in the process . . . men, women, and even the children. I’d seen it done before elsewhere for lesser reasons. This is my home. These are my people, my family. This is personal. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the zombie apocalypse taking its toll on his mind, one man faces a greater threat from above in this sequel to Blood Soaked and Contagious. Zombies were bad enough, but now we’re being invaded from all sides. Up to our necks in blood, body parts, and unanswerable questions . . . . . . As soon as the realization hit me, I lost my cool. I curled into the fetal position in a pile of blood, offal, and body parts, and froze there. What in the Hell was I becoming that killing was entertaining and satisfying? I don’t know how long I was on my side in the remains of my opponents, but the mess was coagulating and getting cold . . . to say nothing of the smell of sliced-open bowels. There were periodic noises suggesting violence around and about where I was glued to the ground by noxious goop, but I couldn’t even raise my face to take a look around. My brain spun around and around, propelled by unanswered questions and abject horror. The person I thought I was—a guy who does what he has to do when the chips are down—had been replaced by someone I didn’t know and it made me terribly afraid . . . Book Blood Donor Counselling

    Book Details:
  • Author : World Health Organization
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2016-06-24
  • ISBN : 9789241548557
  • Pages : 114 pages

Download or read book Blood Donor Counselling written by World Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Individuals who donate their blood provide a unique and precious gift in an act of human solidarity. In order to donate blood, prospective donors should be in good health and free from any infections that can be transmitted through transfusion. Most blood donors perceive themselves to be healthy, but some are unsuitable to donate blood due to the potential risk of compromising or worsening their own health or the risk of transmission of infections to patients. Blood transfusion services (BTS) have a duty of care towards blood donors as well as to the recipients of transfusion. This duty of care extends to prospective donors who are deferred from donation--whether on a temporary or permanent basis--as well as those who donate blood and are subsequently found to have unusual or abnormal test results. BTS have a responsibility to confirm test results and provide information, counseling and support to enable these individuals to understand and respond to unexpected information about their health or risk status. Counseling is part of the spectrum of care that a BTS should be able to provide to blood donors--including referral to medical practitioners or specialist clinical services. Pre-donation counseling was recognized as one element of the strategy to reduce and, if possible, prevent the donation of blood by individuals who might be at risk for HIV and other TTI including hepatitis B and C viruses as well as to inform the donor of the donation process and testing of blood for HIV. Post-donation counseling was acknowledged to be a necessary element of donor management as an adjunct to informing donors of unusual or abnormal test results. Blood donor counseling by trained specialist staff is now considered to be a key component of the blood system in most countries with a well-developed blood transfusion service. It may be required at a number of stages in the blood donation process or following blood screening and should be available at any point at which the BTS has an interface with donors. In many countries, however, blood donor counseling is not yet available in a structured way. Blood Donor Counselling: Implementation Guidelines has therefore been developed to provide guidance to blood transfusion services that have not yet established donor counseling programs.

Book excerpt: First in the zombie pandemic series by the New York Times–bestselling author. “I can’t give this post-apocalyptic story six stars but I wish I could!” —Tamara Rose Blodgett “I wasn’t afraid of death. If I died, it would be over. My worst fear wasn’t of dying, it was of living. Living, while everyone around me had their flesh savagely torn from their bodies to be shoved into the festering and ever-hungry mouths of zombies. It terrified me, right down to my very core, to be alive while the rest of the world was dead.” During the Second Great Depression, twenty-four-year-old Orissa Penwell is forced to drop out of college when she is no longer able to pay for classes. Unable to find a job, she moves in with her aunt in Indianapolis. Down on her luck, Orissa doesn’t think she can go any lower. She couldn’t be more wrong. A virus breaks out across the country, leaving the infected crazed, aggressive, and very hungry. Orissa is used to only being responsible for herself. When she finds herself a reluctant leader of a group of survivors, she must make a choice: set aside her issues and help the others or go off alone in search of her own family and friends. “In her narrative storytelling, Emily Goodwin presents a refreshingly strong female hero in her zombie-infested, survival tale . . . Goodwin has shown that female writers can make flesh crawl, both living and undead, just as well as her male peers.” —HorrorAddicts.net
