Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That a relation exists between lipids/lipoproteins and coronary artery disease is no longer an arguable point. However, the complexities associated with this relationship, and the number of factors that can impact and alter circumstances and clinical status, are many and diverse. Consequently, this relationship continues to receive a great deal of

Book Blood Lipids and Lipoproteins

Download or read book Blood Lipids and Lipoproteins written by Melissa R. Ruiz and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Circulating high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (HDL-C) is a marker associated with cardiovascular health. Exercise is generally known to increase the HDL-C levels, and this can, in part, explain its cardioprotective effects. The authors present data regarding the association between exercise and the HDL quality and further encourages taking into consideration the view of HDL quality in relation to exercise, in addition to HDL-C. In contrast, this book also includes research on low density lipoproteins, specifically describing research in which atherogenic LDL possesses numerous alterations of carbohydrate and human blood plasma and represents a cascade of successive changes in the lipoprotein particle. Lastly, arachidonic acid has shown to effect blood lipid levels. The authors of this book focused on the problem of arachidonic acid metabolism, belonging to the group of n-6.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low density lipoproteins (LDL) are pathophysiologically important be cause of their central role in the disease atherosclerosis and because atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death in developed countries. Many researchers believe that a more detailed knowledge of the struc ture, function, and metabolism of LDL may eventually lead to a means to control atherosclerosis. For this reason a fairly large research effort has gone into the investigation of LDL over the past few years. The purpose of this book is to collect and summarize in one place most of the pub lished information on LDL through 1975. To this end more than 1500 references are cited in the papers that make up this volume. The A, B, C apolipoprotein classification system was adopted for use throughout this work. In addition to the A, B, C, and "D" families of apolipoproteins, apoE is used to designate the "arginine-rich" apolipo protein. This classification system is used because it is far less cumber some than other proposed classification schemes for apolipoproteins.

Book Lipids and Lipoproteins

Download or read book Lipids and Lipoproteins written by M. Fondu and published by S. Karger AG (Switzerland). This book was released on 1980 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Symposium proceedings of the Federation of Margarine Associations focused on lipids and lipoproteins. Structure and emergence of lipoproteins, and metabolic problems related to LDC and HDL are discussed. Alcohol's influence on lipoproteins and diabetes in clinical studies is reviewed along with biochemical studies, specifically corticosteriod biosynthesis and polyunsaturated fatty acids effects in heart muscle. Epidemiological papers, dietary studies, and fat processing technologies are examined. Extensive knowledge exists about lipoproteins and how apopolypeptides are attached to the phospholipids, cholesterol esters, triglycerides, and cholesterol as well as the amino acid sequence. Two areas for further research are suggested: a new apoprotein reported from studying the lymph, and the cellular functions and role of lipoproteins in triglyceride transport and specific organ activity. Book Biochemistry of Lipids Lipoproteins and Membranes

Download or read book Biochemistry of Lipids Lipoproteins and Membranes written by Dennis E. Vance and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-12-06 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this book was published in 1985. The content of the 4th edition reflects the enormous advances that have occurred since that time in the field of lipid biochemistry. This publication is unique in that it represents a bridge between the superficial coverage of the lipid field found in basic biochemistry text books and the highly specialized material contained in scientific review articles and monographs. The book is not a collection of exhaustive reviews, but a current and readable summary of diverse aspects of lipids. It is intended as an advanced and up-to-date textbook for teachers and students who are familiar with the basic concepts of lipid biochemistry and will also serve as a general reference book for scientists studying lipids, lipoproteins and membranes.

Book Plasma Lipoproteins

    Book Details:
  • Author : Antonio M. Gotto
  • Publisher : Elsevier Publishing Company
  • Release : 1987
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 432 pages

Download or read book Plasma Lipoproteins written by Antonio M. Gotto and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this rapidly evolving field of research, an enormous amount of new knowledge of lipoprotein structure, function and metabolism has emerged. The 1985 Nobel Prize-winning pioneering work of Brown and Goldstein on the LDL receptor has had a profound impact on developments in the field. This work is one of the many subjects reviewed in detail in this book. The volume begins with chapters on structure, then proceeds to analysis of lipid and lipoprotein dynamics, metabolism, function, genetics, and molecular biology. Lipoprotein genetics in molecular biology, the role of lipoprotein receptors, and Lp(a) - a topic underrepresented in volumes on lipoproteins, are another three such topics in an impressive volume. This work will mainly be of interest to researchers interested in lipid and lipoprotein structure and metabolism, but will also be of great value to clinical medicine and biology in general.

  • Author : American Health Foundation
  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2013-10-22
  • ISBN : 1483282422
  • Pages : 198 pages

Download or read book Plasma Lipids written by American Health Foundation and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasma Lipids: Optimal Levels for Health compiles reports on optimal blood lipid levels. This book discusses the optimal levels of blood lipids that suffice for optimal physical and mental development of man while at the same time does not detrimentally affect human health. Clinical, epidemiological, and experimental evidence agrees that the ideal (optimal) serum cholesterol level for children aged 10-14 should be 120 mg% and that the ideal (optimal) cholesterol level for adults should be 160 mg%. This text stresses that if these are indeed the optimal levels, and so many people have levels far above these values, then it is evident why a large proportion of the population succumbs to cardiovascular disease. This publication is intended for physicians and scientists concerned with the optimal values of health.
