Along the way, Rork gathers to his side an enigmatic forester with ties to a long-forgotten race, that young man's secret protector, and a boisterous islander with pride as large as the open canyon country. In the end, Rork finds himself torn between what he must do for himself and what he can do for others around him, for he learns of friendship and caring, and that is hard for a man with only half a soul. Book excerpt: The galaxy has changed. Armies of Chaos march across the Dark Imperium, among them the Death Guard, servants of the Plague God. But shadows of the past haunt these traitors… The Death Guard have returned to prominence with the return of Mortarion and their fabulous model range, and Chris Wraight's previous work with them (in his Space Wolves novels, notably) makes him the perfect person to delve into their particular darkness. The Cadian Gate is broken, and the Imperium is riven in two. The might of the Traitor Legions, kept shackled for millennia behind walls of iron and sorcery, has been unleashed on a darkening galaxy. Among those seeking vengeance on the Corpse Emperor’s faltering realm are the Death Guard, once proud crusaders of the Legiones Astartes, now debased creatures of terror and contagion. Mighty warbands carve bloody paths through the void, answering their lord primarch’s call to war. And yet for all their dread might in arms, there is no escape from the vicious legacies of the past, ones that will pursue them from the ruined daemon-worlds of the Eye of Terror and out into the smouldering wastes of the Imperium Nihilus.

Download or read book An Outline to the Book of Acts An Outline to the General Epistles of James Peter John and Jude and An Outline to the Book of Revelation written by Dr. Leland McClanahan Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-08-30 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of the only book of history in the New Testament. Preceding this study are outlines of the Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. For further New Testament study, outlines of the epistles have been prepared, as well as an outline of the Book of Revelation. The purpose of these outlines is to provide a resource for the use of serious Bible students, as well as for Pastors and teachers, to assist them in their studies. It is hoped that the student and the teacher will find information which will clarify the text and bring a greater depth of understanding of the Word of God. Pastors should find within the details presented valuable sequences for developing Bible studies and for use in developing sermons. Perhaps a more significant title for this book would have been, "The Acts of the Holy Spirit", as it reveals the Holy Spirit in His work in the early church. The narrative opens with Jesus telling His disciples that the Holy Spirit will baptize them with His power. They are to wait in Jerusalem until that day. The Day of Pentecost arrives and the Spirit is seen as a wind bringing fire to the heads of the apostles, inflaming them to speak in the varied tongues of the pilgrims who have gathered for the feast, every man hearing the Word of God in their own language. Philip finds himself taken by the Spirit to the desert to instruct and witness to the Ethiopian eunuch. Barnabas and Paul become missionaries by the Spirit. The Jerusalem church is inspired by the Spirit to accept the Gentile churches. And the Spirit attends Paul in his missionary journeys, and there is no doubt that Luke was inspired by the Spirit as he penned these words. This book deals with the actions of Peter and Paul, and with the growth of the church to the west. Paul's missionary journeys are dealt with and the development of the church away from Jerusalem and the Jews, to Rome and the Gentiles. It is accepted by all Biblical authorities that Luke is the author of this book. He is not named as author within the pages, however, there are several instances of the "we" in the first person plural in connection with Paul. It is well known that Luke was with Paul in Palestine during Paul's imprisonment in Caesarea, and that he traveled with Paul on the missionary journeys. Luke again addresses his writing to Theophilus, as he did in the Gospel of Luke. The exact date is unknown, but it is generally believed to have been written circa 62 A.D.

Download or read book Lord Byron s Life in Italy written by Teresa Guiccioli (contessa di) and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lord Byron's Life in Italy is an English translation of Vie de Lord Byron en Italie by Byron's Italian friend Teresa Guiccioli, the manuscript of which has lain in Ravenna since the early 1880s, and which has never-been published, or even read except by a small number of scholars. Teresa Guiccioli was the poet's last mistress, his liaison with whom was of longer duration than any other. They met in 1819, and their relationship lasted until he left Italy for Greece in 1823. Persecuted by the authorities because of the friendship with such a dangerous man, Teresa's family had to move from Ravenna to Pisa and finally to Genoa. Teresa knew Byron better, probably, than any other person, and her fresh and original account of his life has been unknown for too long. This superb translation, with elaborate introduction and notes, fills a long-acknowledged gap in studies of Byron. Michael Rees is a past joint chair of the Byron Society. Peter Cochran is the editor of the Newstead Abbey Byron Society Review.

Download or read book The Great Shame written by Thomas Keneally and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2010-09-22 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Thomas Keneally recounts history with the uncanny skill of a great novelist whose only interest is to lay bare the human heart in all its hope and pain. As he was able to do in Schindler's List, he shows us in The Great Shame a people despised and rejected to the point of death, who in the face of all their sorrows manage to keep their souls. This story of oppression, famine, and emigration--a principal chapter in the story of man's inhumanity to man--becomes in Keneally's hands an act of resurrection; Irishmen and Irishwomen of a century and a half ago live once more within the pages of this book." --Thomas Cahill, author of How the Irish Saved Civilization In the nineteenth century, Ireland lost half of its population to famine, emigration to the United States and Canada, and the forced transportation of convicts to Australia. The forebears of Thomas Keneally, author of Schindler's List, were victims of that tragedy, and in The Great Shame Keneally has written an astonishing, monumental work that tells the full story of the Irish diaspora with the narrative grip and flair of a great novel. Based on unique research among little-known sources, this masterly book surveys eighty years of Irish history through the eyes of political prisoners--including Keneally's ancestors--who left Ireland in chains and eventually found glory, in one form or another, in Australia and America. We meet William Smith O'Brien, leader of an uprising at the height of the Irish Famine, who rose from solitary confinement in Australia to become the Mandela of his age; Thomas Francis Meagher, whose escape from Australian captivity led to a glittering American career as an orator, a Union general, and governor of Montana; John Mitchel, who became a Confederate newspaper reporter, gave two of his sons to the Southern cause, was imprisoned with Jefferson Davis--and returned to Ireland to become mayor of Tipperary; and John Boyle O'Reilly, who fled a life sentence in Australia to become one of nineteenth-century America's leading literary lights. Through the lives of many such men and women--famous and obscure, some heroes and some fools (most a little of both), all of them stubborn, acutely sensitive, and devastatingly charming--we become immersed in the Irish experience and its astonishing history. From Ireland to Canada and the United States to the bush towns of Australia, we are plunged into stories of tragedy, survival, and triumph. All are vividly portrayed in Keneally's spellbinding prose, as he reveals the enormous influence the exiled Irish have had on the English-speaking world. "A terrible and personal saga, history delivered with a scholar's density of detail but with the individualizing power of a multi-talented novelist." --William Kennedy
