Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Father, Bless Me Indeed didn’t start out as a book. Rather, it was a personal quest by the author after she failed a critical nursing exam that, had she passed, would have had a huge impact on her family and career. In desperation, she started praying the prayer of Jabez and was impressed to explore what the Scriptures say about God’s blessings. The prayers and thoughts attached to each of the Bible blessings came from her devotional study. There are thoughts like: “Open my eyes that I may see You when my way is darkened with sorrow, anxiety, or pain. Speak to me in Your still, quiet voice when my world is filled with the noise of doubt and discontent.” The author wants you the reader to understand that, no matter what your circumstances are, you are blessed of God, for God’s blessings are not always tangible. His blessings may come wrapped in feelings of hope, a supportive family, good health, a sense of peace, or the assurance that God is with you. Always remember the promise-laden words of the Apostle Paul, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13, NKJV).

Book excerpt: The inspiration for the hit London Weekend Television series of the same name, this is one confessional you’ll want to make a point of visiting Young Neil Boyd has just finished divinity school and has been newly ordained as a priest. His first post? St. Jude’s parish, a corner of London with a raucous congregation full of Irish immigrants. The flock is an odd pairing with the gentle Father Boyd, but he just might be both mad enough and tender enough to get through to them. Later adapted into a beloved British sitcom, Bless Me, Father is a humorous and sweet-natured look at Catholicism in the 1950s. Joining Boyd is the cantankerous, scheming, and brilliant Father Duddleswell, a man who is willing to do anything to make sure the Lord’s will be done, and Mrs. Pring, the sharp-tongued housekeeper who both coddles and cajoles her priestly family of two. If the church needs money, Duddleswell will place a bet to get it. If a Catholic wants to marry a Protestant . . . well, maybe he won’t go that far. Father Neil’s adventures with his parishioners are sure to delight readers of all creeds.

Book Bless Me Until You Re Satisfied

Download or read book Bless Me Until You Re Satisfied written by Joseph Harris and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bless Me until You’re Satisfied offers itself as a guide to the Scriptures’ witness to the abundant blessings God desires to pour out into the lives of all who follow Him in faith. By drawing upon his ministry as a pastor and his work in a counseling center dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youths, Joseph Harris lifts up the overwhelming power of God’s blessings in the face of life’s challenges and adversities. Each chapter of Bless Me until You’re Satisfied typically begins with a passage from the Bible, followed by a “bless me” statement, which draws out the theme of the passage and applies it to daily life. The balance of each chapter then delves into the riches of God’s blessings and traces the chapter’s theme as it appears throughout the whole of the Scriptures. Life sometimes weighs us down with worries. Other times we burden ourselves with the bad choices we make. If you feel like you are dragging around a great load, then Bless Me until You’re Satisfied can help you. It reveals God’s answer to your prayers for assistance; it describes the riches of His blessings; it leads you to ask Him to bless you until He is satisfied and you are made whole.

Book Spurgeon s Sermons on Prayer

Download or read book Spurgeon s Sermons on Prayer written by Charles Haddon Spurgeon and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a collection of sermons on the subject of prayer by one of the most beloved preachers in the history of the English-speaking world. Spurgeon was popular in the most fundamental sense of the word in that he was "of the people." He began selling his sermons early in his career, and they have been published in many formats over the last century and a half. This edition presents the sermons in a re-typeset and redesigned modern, easy-to-read format. Selected from over 3,500 sermons, this volume features Spurgeon's preaching on praying: the personal life of prayer, as well as prayers of the Bible and the prayers of Christ. The focus is on praying, not prayer, in the sense that praying is an action and not an abstraction. Spurgeon preaches about how praying is a key component of a righteous life, about the work of prayer in the life of a Christian, about examples of prayer found in the Scriptures, and about the pray-ers: the saints whose examples can teach us about prayer.

Book excerpt: Lord, You Know . . . Three-Word Prayers of Adoration, Supplication, and Affirmation is a multi-sensory prayer devotional. Readers are invited to participate in the daily exercise of reciting a three-word prayer, reading the accompanying devotion, completing a creative reflection activity, and listening to an inspirational song that underscores the prayer’s theme. Although Shéree Jones hopes to engage the total person in the act of prayer, her main goal is to simplify and demystify prayer. By encapsulating a prayer request into just 3-words, she demonstrates the power of simplicity in urgent prayer. The prayers are relevant for everyone–from the novice believer to the seasoned saint. The simple yet profound language of the 3-word prayers encourages readers to establish a more intimate relationship with God. The book’s three sections organize its content as prayers of adoration, supplication, and affirmation. The prayers in each help the reader show love for God, make petitions known to God, and affirm what we already have experienced with God. Lord, You Know . . . gets straight to the heart of the matter, making it easy to read but hard to put down.

Book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 17

Download or read book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 17 written by Spurgeon, Charles H. and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 17 Sermons 968-1027 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to republish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
