Download or read book Don t Feed the Monkey Mind written by Jennifer Shannon and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very things we do to control anxiety can make anxiety worse. This unique guide offers a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based approach to help you recognize the constant chatter of your anxious “monkey mind,” stop feeding anxious thoughts, and find the personal peace you crave. Ancient sages compared the human mind to a monkey: constantly chattering, hopping from branch to branch—endlessly moving from fear to safety. If you are one of the millions of people whose life is affected by anxiety, you are familiar with this process. Unfortunately, you can’t switch off the “monkey mind,” but you can stop feeding the monkey—or stop rewarding it by avoiding the things you fear. Written by psychotherapist Jennifer Shannon, this book shows you how to stop anxious thoughts from taking over using proven-effective cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques, as well as fun illustrations. By following the exercises in this book, you’ll learn to identify your own anxious thoughts, question those thoughts, and uncover the core fears at play. Once you stop feeding the monkey, there are no limits to how expansive your life can feel. This book will show you how anxiety can only continue as long as you try to avoid it. And, paradoxically, only by seeking out and confronting the things that make you anxious can you reverse the cycle that keeps your fears alive.

Book excerpt: Under the covers, we were veiled from all of the dangers and worries on the other side of that thin layer cotton. We were a few sheets and some clothes away from the pain and problems. The cloth shield over top of us provided a little spot in time for us to hide in - a little time capsule. Clocks lost their hands, the grains in the glass disappeared, the sun dial stepped into the shade, and the world of relapse welcomed us back to the old days.

Download or read book God s Interventions in My Life written by Carmen Vaughn and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-18 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not your typical book. I am not here to preach or give you a cliché perspective on life. We have heard it all. I wrote this book to share some of the many lessons I have learned throughout my life. Through these stories, I have been able to show my family and friends a different perspective on how to operate in life through God’s help. It includes some of my stories that are my daughters’ favorites for me to tell. They are from middle school, high school, college, and adulthood. The goal is to display how He has turned bad situations around for the good, even “okay” situations into better ones, in a relatable manner that people can connect to. I have seen how God can show up in our everyday lives, even when you least expect it. Through this book and all my stories, I want to show the sovereignty of God’s love and greatness in our day-to-day lives—some good, some funny, and some quite unique.

Download or read book Feeling Unreal written by Daphne Simeon M.D. and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-11-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Everything feels unreal to me, like a dream...I feel detached, like a stranger to myself." These are quotes from actual people, experiencing something they don't understand. What they are saying is being heard by friends, families, and physicians today more than ever before. They do not simply suffer from anxiety, or depression, and they are not schizophrenic. They have found themselves trapped in a very real and singular disorder, yet few even know its name. Their enigmatic state of mind has been studied for more than 100 years, but only recently has it become clear how prevalent and how distinctive it really is. The condition is called Depersonalization Disorder, and Feeling Unreal is the first book to reveal what it's all about. This important volume explores not only Depersonalization, but the philosophical and literary implications of selflessness as well, while providing the latest research, possible treatments, and ways to live and thrive when life seems "unreal." For those who still believe that such experiences are merely part of something else, that depersonalization is just a symptom and not a disorder in its own right, Feeling Unreal presents compelling evidence to the contrary. This book provides long-awaited answers for people suffering from Depersonalization Disorder and their loved ones, for mental health professionals, and for all students of the condition, while serving as a wake up call to the medical community at large.
Download or read book Working With Serious Mental Illness written by Catherine Gamble and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2006-01-06 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title is directed primarily towards health care professionals outside of the United States. In today's mental health services, there is a pressing need for practitioners to place greater emphasis on working with users of services and to use skills that have a sound theoretical basis. This book focuses on evidence-based practice but reflects that, in mental health, the best evidence is the personal experience of the user. Many publications explore theoretical aspects of service delivery or provide an in-depth analysis of specific clinical interventions. However, how practitioners comprehensively amalgamate theory with their practice is often missing. This book fills that gap and seeks to guide, plan and suggest down-to-earth treatment ideas for individuals on a day-to-day basis. Mental health practice focused Full of practical advice, user-friendly, clearly accessible and well-designed Reflects user-input, including a chapter written by a user of mental health services describing their experiences of mental illness Leading contributors from practice Early intervention Supervision Implementation and practice development issues Meaningful activity and recovery Engaging and working with carers Relapse prevention

Download or read book Loud Thoughts of Emotional Silence written by H. Jerome Alexander and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To some people this may just be another poetry book, but to me this is an actual glimpse into my life. My trials, tribulations, and personal issues that I have endured in my life while battling with Bi-Polar disorder. My disorder and personal issues have been used as my inspiration ever since publishing my last book “The Evolution of Love” on February 23, 2012. This book was put together to speak on behalf of those who cannot, the people who have personal issues and are scared to talk about them. The people who are apprehensive to vent their true feelings because of how they may be outcast by society. This book is not intended to glorify or condone dark actions to or for any of my readers. I just want to serve as a vessel for my readers so they know no matter how hard things may be there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how far away it may seem. A wise poet once told me “Poetry is beautiful. It has no beginning or end. It is abstract and serves as intellectual documentation for raw emotions.” I agree with this 100% because poetry is not just therapeutic, it is an art form that does not discriminate by race, religion, size or geographic location. Thanks to poetry I have found ways to creatively stimulate my mind by channeling “raw emotions” to paper and also feeding information to my brain by studying those poets whom I have the pleasure to work with and those greats that have come before me. Thankfully I have a very strong support system in my corner like my mother, sister, and wife. I also want to thank my biggest supports who are my daughters Eyana, Nevaeh, Savina, and the newest addition to the family my son Adrian “A.J” Alexander.
