Download or read book Free of Faith written by Michel Dessart and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Free of Faith IS AN ESSAY ABOUT THE USELESSNESS OF GOD ONE DISCOVERS WHEN MULLING OVER EVIL, LIFE, UNIVERSE, AND MORALITY. This essay first presents a personal experience of submission to God and religion, rejection of priesthood celibacy, and vanishing faith. This experience is prolonged by a philosophical approach to All-Without-God. Evil is the finitude of living beings. Origin and evolution of life do not require the existence of God. The history of the universe can be viewed independently of God. Men and women must acknowledge their human condition and assume their generational responsibility, which essentially consists in fighting the criminal evil that humans are responsible for. About the Author Michel Dessart devoted some part of his youth organizing Sunday meetings and holidays camps for young parishioners. Later, in his professional life, he was known as a fair leader, be it as a division chief or a director. He was involved in two strong communities, the purpose of which was to prepare their members for the Catholic priesthood. In the first, a university seminary, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the University of Louvain, with a thesis on Aristotle’s “Treatise on Soul”, which won the first prize of the Inter-University Contest in philosophy. In the second community, in Rome, he had to spend four years to study the Catholic theology. However, after two years, he quit because he refused to commit to the ecclesiastical celibacy. He taught in Belgian schools and undertook economic studies at the University of Liège. Then, as a researcher at the National Fund for Scientific Research, he studied the possibility conditions of a European monetary policy. His Ph.D. thesis in economics was crowned by the Royal Academy of Belgium. Recruited by a large bank in Brussels, he became an economic adviser in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. Then he joined an international institution in Washington D.C. He was a well-known consultant-trainer in many African countries. He authored several economic books and papers.

Download or read book Clerical Vestments written by Sarah Bailey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The churches of Britain contain a remarkable heritage of exquisitely embroidered vestments, and cathedrals in particular hold some of the most beautiful textiles ever produced in Europe. The history of these priestly garments and how their use developed in Britain and Europe is fascinating. This book outlines the tradition and mysticism associated with them and the role they still play in the 'theatre' of church, and shows how colour and ornament are used in the symbolism of the Christian faith. It explores the history of vestment production up to the present day, covering the practicalities of design, the sourcing of fabrics and the embroiderers themselves.

Download or read book The Accidental Pope written by Ray Flynn and published by St. Martin's Griffin. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The former US Ambassador to the Vatican and the bestselling author of The French Connection join forces to write an unforgettable, compelling novel about a humble fisherman who is elected as the next Pope. Locked in a stalemate after days of voting, the College of Cardinals struggles through the arduous process of electing a new pope after the death of Pope John Paul II. In an effort to break the impasse at the conclave, Brian Comiskey, Cardinal Primate of All Ireland, in a stunning surprise development, withdraws from the race. Explaining his decision, he offers an anecdote about being among a boat load of clerics who were caught in an unexpected storm, then miraculously rescued by his friend Bill Kelly, a former priest and now a Cape Cod fisherman. The next day at the Sistine Chapel, still undecided about who they should vote for, the Cardinals smile to themselves as they cast what they think are throw-away symbolic votes for Bill Kelly--but no one is laughing when he is elected Pope. Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, Bill Kelly is on his boat at sea when he has a very clear and disturbing revelation: God is once again calling him to serve his Church. Thus begins the reign of the first American Pope. Written with the style of bestselling novelist Robin Moore and the political brilliance and authority of former U. S. Ambassador Raymond Flynn, The Accidental Pope is not a religious book about politics, nor a political book about religion, but a story that gives insight into the Vatican and the role of the Holy See in world events. The Accidental Pope is a globetrotting tale full of suspense, drama, and humor.
