Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biz Jets: Technology and Market Structure in the Corporate Jet Aircraft Industry traces the development of business jet aircraft from the mid-1950s through early 1993. It begins with a discussion of the technological and market opportunities existing in the period prior to the introduction of the Lockheed JetStar and the North American Sabreliner. The subsequent appearances of other biz jets -- the Learjets, HS-125s, Jet Commanders, Falcons, Gulfstreams, Citations, Challengers, Mitsubishis and derivative aircraft are treated in considerable detail. Biz Jets also covers 'planes involved in many unsuccessful attempts to enter the industry from 1955 through 1993. The study shows that while the industry has been quite concentrated throughout its history, the positions of the leading firms have always been contestable. Indeed, leaders at one point in time have often been displaced by others who succeeded in marshalling technological and market opportunities to their advantage. Manufacturers have had to undertake continuous efforts to improve the price-performance characteristics of their aircraft to gain and hold their market shares. Rivalries in the effective use of the stream of new technologies have brought forth new aircraft with both better performance and lower operating costs. At the same time, however, participation in the market has been extremely risky. Only a few companies have been able to earn profits. Entries, exits and mergers have altered the structure of the industry, but it remained decidedly unstable at least through 1992.

Book Aircraft Design Projects

Download or read book Aircraft Design Projects written by Lloyd R. Jenkinson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-04-28 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written with students of aerospace or aeronautical engineering firmly in mind, this is a practical and wide-ranging book that draws together the various theoretical elements of aircraft design - structures, aerodynamics, propulsion, control and others - and guides the reader in applying them in practice. Based on a range of detailed real-life aircraft design projects, including military training, commercial and concept aircraft, the experienced UK and US based authors present engineering students with an essential toolkit and reference to support their own project work. All aircraft projects are unique and it is impossible to provide a template for the work involved in the design process. However, with the knowledge of the steps in the initial design process and of previous experience from similar projects, students will be freer to concentrate on the innovative and analytical aspects of their course project. The authors bring a unique combination of perspectives and experience to this text. It reflects both British and American academic practices in teaching aircraft design. Lloyd Jenkinson has taught aircraft design at both Loughborough and Southampton universities in the UK and Jim Marchman has taught both aircraft and spacecraft design at Virginia Tech in the US.* Demonstrates how basic aircraft design processes can be successfully applied in reality* Case studies allow both student and instructor to examine particular design challenges * Covers commercial and successful student design projects, and includes over 200 high quality illustrations

Book Corporate Aviation Management

Download or read book Corporate Aviation Management written by Raoul Castro and published by SIU Press. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this comprehensive aviation manual, Raoul Castro provides a source of invaluable corporate aviation management information. He begins by giving an overview of corporate aviation from its inception, then focuses on the management principles and functions that specifically target corporate aviation. Through the utilization of these sound management principles, Castro facilitates the acceptance of corporate aircraft as indispensable tools of industry. As Castro notes, few companies know how to use corporate aircraft to maximum advantage. Drawing on his expertise and experience, Castro designs a plan by which a company can achieve maximum utilization of an airplane or helicopter fleet. He gives specific instructions on how to facilitate the efficient use of the aviation department of a company, select appropriate aircraft, plan for disasters and establish security measures, fulfill legal requirements of the governmental agencies that regulate the use of aircraft, and manage the maintenance and repair of aircraft. Castro also discusses the scores of details involved in the management of a professional corporate aviation branch and how these details can be handled in a positive, productive manner. After thoroughly examining the overall managerial functions involved in planning, organizing, controlling, and implementing an aviation arm, Castro concludes by discussing the future of corporate aviation. This book is a practical and valuable guide for the executive in charge of an aviation department, an aviation department manager or chief pilot, aspirants to aviation management positions, and both students and teachers of aviation management.

Book Business Jet Industry

Download or read book Business Jet Industry written by Richard J. Claudio and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2012-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and analyses factors shaping the competitiveness of the U.S. business jet industry during 2006, as well as the industry's structure world-wide. The United States has been the leading player in the industry since its inception in the 1960s. Three of the six global business jet producers are head-quartered in the United States, while the other producers maintain at least one U.S-based production activity. However, competition is strong, frequent cutting-edge updates are necessary, and demand is cyclical. During the recent economic downturn, deliveries dropped 57 percent. This decline largely reflected customers' lower profits and the scarcity of credit, which especially weighed on potential buyers. U.S. industry officials also indicated that sales and developments of business jets were affected by the availability of financing, continued investment in research and development to maintain innovation capability, and the timely certification of business jets to provide state-of-the-art aircraft to the market.

Book Reducing Business Jet Carbon Footprint

Download or read book Reducing Business Jet Carbon Footprint written by Dr. Thomas F. Johnson and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When using the electric taxi system, pilots will be able to load up their passengers, taxi to the runway run up area, and start their engines—all without using fuel. Reducing Business Jet Carbon Footprint details how business jets equipped with the aircraft electric taxi system will be able to land, turn off main engines and taxi on the tarmac using electric power. Aerospace engineer/scientist and licensed FAA commercial pilot Dr. Thomas F Johnson describes how the electric taxi system saves fuel (and reduces emissions) for medium to long range business jets by using electricity for certain aspects before take-off and after landing. Dr. Johnson’s work as an Aerospace engineer has rewarded him with three patents related to the aircraft gas turbine engine (GTE). His knowledge of commercial flight and plane mechanics are featured in Reducing Business Jet Carbon Footprint, where he explains the details (and potential costs) of installing the electric taxi system. Johnson examines how the use of clean energy will improve airport air quality and preserve fuel consumption for when it’s needed. His writing models and simulates the exciting new technological opportunities for air travel—ready to be put into service.
