Book DIGITAL LOGIC AND COMPUTER ORGANIZATION

Download or read book DIGITAL LOGIC AND COMPUTER ORGANIZATION written by V. RAJARAMAN and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory text on ‘digital logic and computer organization’ presents a logical treatment of all the fundamental concepts necessary to understand the organization and design of a computer. It is designed to cover the requirements of a first-course in computer organization for undergraduate Computer Science, Electronics, or MCA students. Beginning from first principles, the text guides students through to a stage where they are able to design and build a small computer with available IC chips. Starting with the foundation material on data representation, computer arithmetic and combinatorial and sequential circuit design, the text explains ALU design and includes a discussion on an ALU IC chip. It also discusses Algorithmic State Machine and its representation using a Hardware Description Language before shifting to computer organization. The evolutionary development of a small hypothetical computer is described illustrating hardware-software trade-off in computer organization. Its instruction set is designed giving reasons why each new instruction is introduced. This is followed by a description of the general features of a CPU, organization of main memory and I/O systems. The book concludes with a chapter describing the features of a real computer, namely the Intel Pentium. An appendix describes a number of laboratory experiments which can be put together by students, culminating in the design of a toy computer. Key Features • Self-contained presentation of digital logic and computer organization with minimal pre-requisites • Large number of examples provided throughout the book • Each chapter begins with learning goals and ends with a summary to aid self-study by students.

Book Bits of Organization

Download or read book Bits of Organization written by Alison Pullen and published by Copenhagen Business School Press DK. This book was released on 2009 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The academic study of organizations is in a condition of heterodoxy, where diverse methods and theories collide and compete, gathered together only in the broken net of a name. This book assembles some of the bits that break off in the process of this collision. It plays with the already contested boundaries - 'correct images' and 'correct narratives' - of a legitimate organization studies, so as to attest to a destabilization of any theory and method that would desire to capture, reproduce, and indoctrinate knowledge. The book brings together a group of original thinkers and writers, who push the boundaries of innovative and unconventional work as governed by prevailing standards in the dominant bastions of organization studies.

Book Computer Organization and Design

Download or read book Computer Organization and Design written by John L. Hennessy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 881 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Organization and Design: The Hardware/Software Interface presents the interaction between hardware and software at a variety of levels, which offers a framework for understanding the fundamentals of computing. Other chapters consider the abstractions and concepts in memory hierarchies by starting with the simplest possible cache. This book discusses as well the complete data path and control for a processor. The final chapter deals with the exploitation of parallel machines. This book is a valuable resource for students in computer science and engineering. Readers with backgrounds in assembly language and logic design who want to learn how to design a computer or understand how a system works will also find this book useful.

Book Organization and Pedagogy of Complexity

Download or read book Organization and Pedagogy of Complexity written by Jacques Printz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-07-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organization and Pedagogy of Complexity deals with real systems, their architecture, and speaks of those who design, develop and maintain them. After a summary of the architecture proposed by Daniel Krob, president of CESAMES in Paris, France, the book focuses on the sensor and effector equipment that routes and converts the system's information to the place where it is processed. These are the equivalent of the system's sense organs. It also analyzes the roots of complexity from the perspective of combinatorics: in real systems, everything comes down to cases and/or configurations being validated in greater or lesser numbers, but which must be kept under control. This book presents two case studies, giving a global vision of complexity. Finally, it presents a prospective approach that brings the engineering of artificial systems closer to that of biological systems, based on first-hand information provided by Philippe Kourilsky, Emeritus Professor at the Collège de France.

The book tells you everything you need to know about the logical design and operation, physical design and operation, performance characteristics and resulting design trade-offs, and the energy consumption of modern memory hierarchies. You learn how to to tackle the challenging optimization problems that result from the side-effects that can appear at any point in the entire hierarchy. As a result you will be able to design and emulate the entire memory hierarchy. Understand all levels of the system hierarchy -Xcache, DRAM, and disk. Evaluate the system-level effects of all design choices. Model performance and energy consumption for each component in the memory hierarchy.

Book Levels of Organization in the Biological Sciences

Download or read book Levels of Organization in the Biological Sciences written by Daniel S. Brooks and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific philosophers examine the nature and significance of levels of organization, a core structural principle in the biological sciences. This volume examines the idea of levels of organization as a distinct object of investigation, considering its merits as a core organizational principle for the scientific image of the natural world. It approaches levels of organization--roughly, the idea that the natural world is segregated into part-whole relationships of increasing spatiotemporal scale and complexity--in terms of its roles in scientific reasoning as a dynamic, open-ended idea capable of performing multiple overlapping functions in distinct empirical settings. The contributors--scientific philosophers with longstanding ties to the biological sciences--discuss topics including the philosophical and scientific contexts for an inquiry into levels; whether the concept can actually deliver on its organizational promises; the role of levels in the development and evolution of complex systems; conditional independence and downward causation; and the extension of the concept into the sociocultural realm. Taken together, the contributions embrace the diverse usages of the term as aspects of the big picture of levels of organization. Contributors Jan Baedke, Robert W. Batterman, Daniel S. Brooks, James DiFrisco, Markus I. Eronen, Carl Gillett, Sara Green, James Griesemer, Alan C. Love, Angela Potochnik, Thomas Reydon, Ilya Tëmkin, Jon Umerez, William C. Wimsatt, James Woodward
