Download or read book Australian Barkers and Biters written by Robert Kaleski and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in Sydney 1914 in a Limited Edition, this rare early dog book is both expensive and hard to find in its first edition. A later, and still very scarce edition was enlarged and revised with the addition of many early dog breed photographs. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS have republished this edition using the original text and photographs, as part of their Classic Breed Books series. Although this book deals mainly with observations, history and research on the Kelpi, Heeler, and other Australian Sheep and Cattle Dogs, several other dog breeds peculiar to Australia are discussed in some detail. Two hundred and fifty six pages contain twenty two comprehensive chapters:- The Origin of the Dog. - Variations of the Dog Species. - Creation of Tame Dogs. - The Noble Dingo. - The Australian Cattle Dog. - The Kelpie. - The Barb. - Sheep-dog Trials. - Judging and Buying. - Kangaroo Dogs. - Bush Greyhounds. - True Greyhounds. - Beagles. - Cocker Spaniels. - Fox Terriers. - Alsatian Wolf Dog. - Laws on Dogs. - Dog Fighting. - Dog Fancying. - Australian Dog Workers. - A Premier Sheep-dog Trial Judge. - "God's Dogs". This is a fascinating read for any Sheep and Cattle Dog enthusiast or historian of the breeds, but also contains much information that is still useful and practical today. Many of the earliest dog breed books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. VINTAGE DOG BOOKS are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Book excerpt: THE BOOK BEHIND THE FOURTH SEASON OF THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIES GAME OF THRONES Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction. A FEAST FOR CROWS It seems too good to be true. After centuries of bitter strife and fatal treachery, the seven powers dividing the land have decimated one another into an uneasy truce. Or so it appears. . . . With the death of the monstrous King Joffrey, Cersei is ruling as regent in King’s Landing. Robb Stark’s demise has broken the back of the Northern rebels, and his siblings are scattered throughout the kingdom like seeds on barren soil. Few legitimate claims to the once desperately sought Iron Throne still exist—or they are held in hands too weak or too distant to wield them effectively. The war, which raged out of control for so long, has burned itself out. But as in the aftermath of any climactic struggle, it is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces—some familiar, others only just appearing—are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead. It is a time when the wise and the ambitious, the deceitful and the strong will acquire the skills, the power, and the magic to survive the stark and terrible times that lie before them. It is a time for nobles and commoners, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and sages to come together and stake their fortunes . . . and their lives. For at a feast for crows, many are the guests—but only a few are the survivors.

Book Multidimensional Nonlinear Descriptive Analysis

Download or read book Multidimensional Nonlinear Descriptive Analysis written by Shizuhiko Nishisato and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-06-26 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantification of categorical, or non-numerical, data is a problem that scientists face across a wide range of disciplines. Exploring data analysis in various areas of research, such as the social sciences and biology, Multidimensional Nonlinear Descriptive Analysis presents methods for analyzing categorical data that are not necessarily sampled randomly from a normal population and often involve nonlinear relations. This reference not only provides an overview of multidimensional nonlinear descriptive analysis (MUNDA) of discrete data, it also offers new results in a variety of fields. The first part of the book covers conceptual and technical preliminaries needed to understand the data analysis in subsequent chapters. The next two parts contain applications of MUNDA to diverse data types, with each chapter devoted to one type of categorical data, a brief historical comment, and basic skills peculiar to the data types. The final part examines several problems and then concludes with suggestions for future progress. Covering both the early and later years of MUNDA research in the social sciences, psychology, ecology, biology, and statistics, this book provides a framework for potential developments in even more areas of study.

Book Two Desperados

  • Author : Susan Lowell
  • Publisher : Texas A&M University Press
  • Release : 2020-02-14
  • ISBN : 168003202X
  • Pages : 207 pages

Download or read book Two Desperados written by Susan Lowell and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the George Garrett Fiction Prize, Susan Lowell’s Two Desperados is a collection of southwest-flavored stories that feature a blacksmith, several smugglers, a mule, a jaguar, a runaway groom, a murderess, a witch, a basket weaver, a Gremlin, three cowboys, and a ghost. Settings range from a grand university library to a construction site, from an apocalyptic dream world to the coyote-haunted banks of the Rio Grande. A novella called “Captain Death” traces a journalist’s odyssey along the U.S.-Mexico border. Another novella, “Two Desperados,” follows a prodigal daughter’s return to her eccentric Arizona home. And although they grapple with love and death, many members of this motley gang still manage to find sparkles in the darkness and a few crazy moments of grace. These eighteen stories play a few games with traditional short story form, but by and large they remain in the realism camp—yet it is realism tweaked or enlivened with an occasional sprinkle of magic or a small electric zap. In length they range from a few words to many pages, from the brief text of a bumper sticker to a full-scale novella. In the words of Apuleius, author of The Golden Ass: “Reader! Pay attention! You’re going to enjoy yourself!”

Book Rogue Sexuality in Early Modern English Literature

Download or read book Rogue Sexuality in Early Modern English Literature written by Ari Friedlander and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The 'rogue,' a term that described criminals, prostitutes, vagrants, beggars, and the unemployed, dominated the pages of early modern popular crime literature. Rogue Sexuality resituates the rogue by focusing on how their menace-and the seductive appeal-emerged not only from their social marginality, but from their supposedly excessive sexuality and prodigious sexual reproduction. Through discussions of both familiar and little-studied early modern works by William Shakespeare, John Milton, Ben Jonson, Thomas Middleton, Thomas Dekker, Robert Greene, Thomas Harman, and the inventor of modern demography John Graunt, Friedlander posits the sexualized rogue as a new category of early modern socio-sexual identity and traces a surprising social transposition, in which socio-political elites are portrayed as appropriating the rogue's sexual vitality and performative charisma to navigate moments of crisis. By tracking the movement of rogue sexuality from a criminal to a normative discursive register, this book challenges the distinctions that literary critics and historians tend to draw between orderly and disorderly sexuality. With its focus on reproduction, the analytical category of rogue sexuality also provides a new framework for what Michel Foucault called "biopolitics," the state's focus on exercising power over life. In legal, administrative, and scientific documents, Friedlander shows that early modern writers grappled with popular pamphlets' rendering of the supposed threat of rogue reproduction. Rogue Sexuality thus offers a new approach to the political history of early modern England as a population-as a people whose aggregate sexual life and reproduction were a key part of its political imagination"
