Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sequel to Tempest Rider Slate Morgan and Silver Black are married now and have moved to a farm near Sinking Spring Ohio. When they bought the land, they didn't realize that the farm next door to them was occupied by a group of pagans who had come to the area in order to be near Serpent Mound, which they believe is a vortex. The farm, called The Garden of Eden by its serpent worshipping inhabitants, is host to beliefs such as Wicca, Celtic, Atheist, and Native American; all grouped under a pagan banner. The farm is located in a longtime Christian Farming Community which has recently had an influx of Amish residents as well. It would seem they are heading for a culture clash. When Anne Baxter, the leader of the group is found murdered there are many suspects in this diverse community where she'd made many enemies and seemingly no friends. When suspicion falls on the Morgan family, on whose land the body is found, Silver feels she must help investigate in order to remove the cloud over her family's head. She sets out to learn all the local gossip so she can pass it on to the Sheriff who is investigating the murder. However, her snooping has riled up someone who has her in his/her sights, considering her a threat. This is a Who Dunnit set in a small community. With so many suspects you will be guessing who the culprit is until the last minute.

Book Venomous Bites from Non Venomous Snakes

Download or read book Venomous Bites from Non Venomous Snakes written by Scott A Weinstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-06-20 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first significant contribution to thoroughly examine the potential hazards associated with snakes of the former family, Colubridae. This family contained >65% of living snake species (approximately 3,000 taxa) and has recently been split into multiple families. Many of these snakes produce oral secretions that contain toxins and other biologically-active substances. A large variety of these snakes figure in the pet industry, yet little documented information or formal study of their potential medical importance has been published. Therefore, although the possible medical importance of many of these species has been subjected to speculation since the mid-nineteenth century, there is a limited amount of useful descriptive information regarding the real hazard (or lack thereof) of snakes belonging to this diverse, artificial family. There is a need for "one-stop shopping" offering information regarding their possible toxicity and clinical relevance as well as recommendations for medical management of their bites. This book is the first synthesis of this information and includes evidence-based risk assessment, hazard rankings and specific recommendations regarding important species, many common in captivity. Fills a gap in the toxinological, medical and herpetological literature by providing a comprehensive review of this entire assemblage of snakes, with particular attention given to their capacity, real or rumored, to cause harm to humans A patient-centered, evidence-based approach is applied to analyzing documented case reports of bites inflicted by approximately 100 species Clinical management of medically significant bites from non-front-fanged colubroids is methodically reviewed, and specific recommendations are provided

Book Bitten by the Black Snake

Download or read book Bitten by the Black Snake written by Manuel Schoch and published by Sentient Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In interpreting the timeless wisdom of the ancient Ashtavakra Gita for modern sensibilities, Manuel Schoch shows us very practically, step by step, how one can simply observe, instead of constantly reacting, projecting, desiring, and struggling in life. Instead of identifying with forms (the body, thoughts, feelings, habits, and experience) one can be connected to the everlasting consciousness that manifests forms. Out of this stillness emerge the qualities of life, love, peace, compassion, bliss, and enlightenment.

Book Venomous Bites from Non Venomous Snakes

Download or read book Venomous Bites from Non Venomous Snakes written by Scott A Weinstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-08-10 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Venomous" Bites from "Non-Venomous" Snakes, Second Edition thoroughly examines the potential hazards associated with bites by non-front-fanged snakes (popularly, but inaccurately, called "rear-fanged snakes"). This diverse group contains approximately 80% of living snake species (approximately 2,900 species). A large proportion of these snakes were previously assigned to the family Colubridae but, as a consequence of expanding systematics investigations, have been split into multiple families and subfamilies. Many of these snakes produce venoms or oral secretions that contain toxins and other biologically active substances. A large variety of non–front-fanged snakes figure in the pet industry, yet little documented information or formal study of their potential medical importance has been published. Therefore, although the possible medical importance of many of these species has been subjected to speculation since the mid-19th century, there is a limited amount of useful descriptive information regarding the real hazard (or lack thereof) of this wide variety of snakes. The first edition of this book provided "one-stop shopping" by offering information regarding their possible toxicity and clinical relevance as well as recommendations for medical management of their bites. The second edition expands and updates the content with detailed information about the effects and medical management of bites by a broad representation of non–front-fanged species. The hypothetical venomous nature of some lizards considered as non-venomous such as the Komodo monitor or dragon and their allies, as well as the medical effects of their bites, is also examined. The dynamic taxonomy of advanced snakes is updated, and the bases for some of these fluid changes are discussed. Likewise, terminology is also updated in order to reflect the ongoing debates regarding the definition of "venom" and the balanced reinforcement of nonmedical criteria used to define the biological basis of the term "venomous." Fills a gap in toxicological, medical, and herpetological literature by providing a comprehensive review of this entire assemblage of non–front-fanged snakes, with particular attention given to their capacity to cause harm to humans Offers a patient-centered, evidence-based approach which is applied to analyzing documented case reports of bites inflicted by a broad representation of species Provides expanded and updated detailed information on the clinical management of medically significant bites from non–front-fanged snakes, which is also methodically reviewed, and specific recommendations are provided Includes updates of the fluid taxonomy of advanced snakes and also of terminology with particular regard to the definition of "venom" and the nonmedical criteria used to define the biological basis of the "venomous condition" in snakes and lizards

It is the most ambitious scientific expedition ever mounted into this remote region, brought to a dramatic halt by the bite of the many-banded krait, the deadliest serpent in Asia. Thus begins one of the most remarkable wilderness rescue attempts of modern times. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you been wrestling with some deep emotion battles, plagued by some painful memories, or just can't seem to forgive yourself because of a few bad choices or circumstances you've encountered throughout this life? If you or someone you know, are emotionally or mentally scarred by life's tough events, lessons, or misfortunes, then Snake Bitten is written with you or them in mind. It is not just an ordinary book, it's also a survival tool to help us identify and deal with some of the root causes of those unvoiced, unattended, and untreated pains and poisons that have molded us into the person we have become today. Unfortunately, there are many of us who are battling with bitterness, jealousy, fits of rage, substance abuse, or even suicidal thoughts because we have not been made aware of or equipped to deal with something called spiritual poisoning. Snake Bitten helps us discover how to properly recognize and respond to spiritual snakes well before we are bitten and become their next victim or meal, just as Jesus did. It also helps identify the nine symptoms of spiritual poisoning when we are bitten. We will look at the importance of knowing how to properly react after being bitten by treating the poison first instead of making the sometimes fatal mistake of trying to pay the snake back first, for biting us. We will discover the brave and victorious journey of going down the road to recovery. Lastly, we will learn the importance of rest after the journey. Rest is a part of God's will for our lives and many of us must learn the fact that it is not a sin to receive it. If this sounds like something you need or want to add to your library or life, then do yourself or your loved one a favor, and grab a copy of this life-changing message.

Book Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament

Download or read book Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament written by G. Johannes Botterweck and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1974 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multivolume work is still proving to be as fundamental to Old Testament studies as its companion set, the Kittel-Friedrich Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, has been to New Testament studies. Beginning with father, and continuing through the alphabet, the TDOT volumes present in-depth discussions of the key Hebrew and Aramaic words in the Old Testament. Leading scholars of various religious traditions (including Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican, Greek Orthodox, and Jewish) and from many parts of the world (Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States) have been carefully selected for each article by editors Botterweck, Ringgren, and Fabry and their consultants, George W. Anderson, Henri Cazelles, David Noel Freedman, Shemaryahu Talmon, and Gerhard Wallis. The intention of the writers is to concentrate on meaning, starting from the more general, everyday senses and building to an understanding of theologically significant concepts. To avoid artificially restricting the focus of the articles, TDOT considers under each keyword the larger groups of words that are related linguistically or semantically. The lexical work includes detailed surveys of a word s occurrences, not only in biblical material but also in other ancient Near Eastern writings. Sumerian, Akkadian, Egyptian, Ethiopic, Ugaritic, and Northwest Semitic sources are surveyed, among others, as well as the Qumran texts and the Septuagint; and in cultures where no cognate word exists, the authors often consider cognate ideas. TDOT s emphasis, though, is on Hebrew terminology and on biblical usage. The contributors employ philology as well as form-critical and traditio-historical methods, with the aim of understanding the religious statements in the Old Testament. Extensive bibliographical information adds to the value of this reference work. This English edition attempts to serve the needs of Old Testament students without the linguistic background of more advanced scholars; it does so, however, without sacrificing the needs of the latter. Ancient scripts (Hebrew, Greek, etc.) are regularly transliterated in a readable way, and meanings of foreign words are given in many cases where the meanings might be obvious to advanced scholars. Where the Hebrew text versification differs from that of English Bibles, the English verse appears in parentheses. Such features will help all earnest students of the Bible to avail themselves of the manifold theological insights contained in this monumental work.
