Download or read book How to Find Out in Iron and Steel written by D. E. White and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Find Out in Iron and Steel focuses on guides in conducting research on the manufacture and applications of iron and steel. The book first emphasizes the role of information services and libraries, literature guides, bibliographies, and periodicals in finding information on iron and steel. Topics include guides to sources of information; select lists of books and sources of information on books; and lists of periodicals. The manuscript then takes a look at the functions of periodical indexing and abstracting services in accessing information, including services dealing with science and technology; services solely focusing on iron and steel; and services dealing with the manufacture of iron and steel. The text also discusses the contributions of handbooks, dictionaries, monographs, treatises, textbooks, and standard works in conducting research on the two elements. English dictionaries that focus on a specific aspect of iron and steel technology, mechanical working, foundry practice, heat treatment, and mechanical properties and testing are underscored. The book also explains the different standards used in the manufacture and testing of iron and steel. The manuscript is a dependable reference for readers wanting to conduct research on the manufacture and applications of iron and steel.

Download or read book Corrosion written by L L Shreir and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion, Volume 1: Metal/Environment Reactions is concerned with the subject of corrosion, with emphasis on the control of the environmental interactions of metals and alloys used as materials of construction. Corrosion is treated as a synthesis of corrosion science and corrosion engineering. This volume is comprised of nine chapters; the first of which provides an overview of the principles of corrosion and oxidation, with emphasis on the electrochemical mechanism of corrosion and how the kinetics of cathodic and anodic partial reactions control the rate of overall corrosion reaction. Attention then turns to the effects of environmental factors such as concentration, velocity, and temperature based on the assumption that either the anodic or cathodic reaction, but not both, is rate-controlling. The corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, as well as rarer and noble metals, is considered. The reader is also introduced to high-temperature corrosion and mechanical factors that affect corrosion. This book concludes with topics of electrochemistry and metallurgy relevant to corrosion, including the nature of the electrified interface between the metal and the solution; charge transfer across the interface under equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions; overpotential and the rate of an electrode reaction; and the hydrogen evolution reaction and hydrogen absorption by ferrous alloys. This book will be of value to students as well as workers and engineers in the field of corrosion.

Download or read book Shreir s Corrosion written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-02-27 with total page 3652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This four-volume reference work builds upon the success of past editions of Elsevier’s Corrosion title (by Shreir, Jarman, and Burstein), covering the range of innovations and applications that have emerged in the years since its publication. Developed in partnership with experts from the Corrosion and Protection Centre at the University of Manchester, Shreir’s Corrosion meets the research and productivity needs of engineers, consultants, and researchers alike. Incorporates coverage of all aspects of the corrosion phenomenon, from the science behind corrosion of metallic and non-metallic materials in liquids and gases to the management of corrosion in specific industries and applications Features cutting-edge topics such as medical applications, metal matrix composites, and corrosion modeling Covers the benefits and limitations of techniques from scanning probes to electrochemical noise and impedance spectroscopy

Download or read book Quantitative Management in R D written by C. J. Beattie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our aim in writing this book has been to present for R&D Managers at all levels the type of quantitative methods that have been developed in recent years for the more efficient management of R&D. Hence, we have sought to write for anyone connected with the control of R&D - from the Directors responsible for the R&D effort of a large organization to the scientist in charge of one or two individual projects. Many of the techniques which we describe have appeared in recent years in the technical journals, often in a largely theoretical form. Few, however, have been made generally available in the management literature, and it has been our intention to fill this need. In doing this, we have concentrated on the tactical aspects of R&D Management - for example, project evaluation and research programme selection. To set these in context, we have also sought briefly to show how the R&D programme stems from the objectives of an organization as regards overall research strategy. We have thus dealt with quantitative management techniques that have seen practical application in R&D laboratories, and have described a number of actual applications to illustrate the method of use in practice. For the sake of simplicity, we have referred to Appendices all detailed mathematics, and other material not essential to an understanding of the main theme. We trust that the reader will discover something of use in these pages.
Download or read book CRC Handbook of Ion Exchange Resins written by Johann Korkisch and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The six-volume CRC Handbook of Ion Exchange Resins reviews the application of ion exchange resins to inorganic analytical chemistry. Extracted from over 6,000 original publications, it presents the information in over 1,000 tables complemented by concise descriptions of analytical methods involving virtually all the elements of the periodic table. Also, the ion exchange characteristics of the elements, as well as other important information required by analysis using ion exchange resins, are presented in separate tables. The methods that allow the multi-element analysis of complex matrices are emphasized. This work includes a general discussion of the theoretical, instrumental, and other principles underlying the various applications of ion exchange resins in inorganic analytical chemistry with special attention focused on techniques based on ion chromatography.
