Book Aqueous Two Phase Systems for Bioprocess Development for the Recovery of Biological Products

Download or read book Aqueous Two Phase Systems for Bioprocess Development for the Recovery of Biological Products written by Marco Rito-Palomares and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive and unique text presents a full overview of downstream processing useful for those new to the concept as well as professionals with experience in the area. The history and theoretical principles of Aqueous Two-Phase Systems (ATPS) are covered in depth. Information on ATPS characterization and application is included, and ATPS equilibria and system parameters that have significant effect on partition behavior are studied. Aqueous Two-Phase Systems for Bioprocess Development for the Recovery of Biological Products addresses specific applications of ATPS for the recovery and partial purification of high molecular weight compounds such as proteins, nucleic acids and polysaccharides, particulate bioproducts such as cells and organelles and low molecular weight compounds. Non-conventional strategies involving ATPS such as affinity systems, continuous liquid-liquid fractionation stages and the recovery from plant extracts are presented. Economic analysis of the application of ATPS in comparison to other fractionation techniques, particularly liquid chromatography, is considered, as are opportunity and current trends in the ATPS research area. Each chapter utilizes the contributors' experimental expertise in traditional and non-conventional ATPS strategies, as well as analysis of areas of opportunity and perspectives on the development and future applications of ATPS in both the lab and larger scale operations. The result is a thorough and singular overview of ATPS which has not been matched by any other text on the market.

The goal of this text is to provide an engaging and easy to use book with an innovative and interactive media program. It achieves a unique balance in emphasizing concepts without sacrificing scientific accuracy. The new MediaTutor, found at the end of each chapter, integrates the text and media by providing a brief description of the CD or WEB activity and the time requirement for completion. In creating the book and the media package, the authors and Prentice Hall reached out to the biology community - involving educators from around the country to help address the diverse needs of todays students. How do you engage your students and help make biology relevant to them? *NEW - Chapter-opening Case Studies and chapter-ending Case Studies Revisited - Includes Did Dinosaurs Die from Lack of Sunlight? from the chapter on Photosynthesis and Teaching an Old Grain New Tricks from the chapter on Biotechnology. Provides an innovative framework for students to learn and make connections between biological concepts and processes. *Earth Watch/Health Watch essays - Covers biodiversity, ozone depletion/pre

Book Technological Capabilities in Developing Countries

Download or read book Technological Capabilities in Developing Countries written by Ruby Gonsen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines the concept of technological capabilities from the development literature with an explanation of the specifics of these capabilities in industrial areas affected by new biotechnology. This provides a framework of analysis for the modern bioprocessing industry in Mexico. The necessity to go beyond mastery of imported technologies for these industries is discussed. More generally, the absence of core-scientific capabilities at the firm-level and other country-specific factors deter the potential for developing countries to catch-up in biotechnology.
