Book Biotechnology And Plant Protection Bacterial Pathogenesis And Disease Resistance Proceedings Of The Fourth International Symposium

Download or read book Biotechnology And Plant Protection Bacterial Pathogenesis And Disease Resistance Proceedings Of The Fourth International Symposium written by Donald D Bills and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-07-27 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important aspect of successful agriculture is the control of plant diseases that reduce productivity, quality, and profitability. Application of exogenous chemicals and development of endogenous resistance are two general approaches to controlling plant diseases. As the former falls under continued attack and regulation, the latter fortunately becomes more achievable through biotechnology. Biotechnology and Plant Protection: Bacterial Pathogenesis and Disease Resistance explores the application of biotechnology to understanding bacterial pathogenesis and the nature of plant resistance to bacterial disease. More important, the information presented in this volume foreshadows the development of plants with increased native resistance to bacterial disease. Classical plant breeding has made great progress in developing resistant plants through largely empirical approaches, but a direct understanding of the genetic aspects of pathogenesis and resistance will accelerate the process.

This book was released on 1995-10-30 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume emphasizes recent research developments in the field of plant viral pathogenesis and disease resistance, focusing on the underlying molecular biology as well as the application of recent advances to agricultural problems. Each of the following general topics is covered by four or five chapters: genome replication and expression, subviral RNA's, virus/host interactions, and expression of viral genes in transformed plants.

Book Plant Virus Host Interaction

Download or read book Plant Virus Host Interaction written by R.K. Gaur and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant Virus-Host Interaction contains cutting-edge research in plant molecular virology, including pathogenic viroids and transport by insect vectors, interference with transmission to control viruses, and synergism, with pivotal coverage of RNA silencing and the counter-defensive strategies used by viruses to overcome the silencing response in plants. With a clear focus on plant virus evolution, including quantitative and population genetics, Plant Virus-Host Interaction provides insights on the major factors favoring disease emergence, such as genetic change in pathogen and host populations and changes in host ecology and environment. The book also examines socioeconomic implications of widespread plant viral agents. Contributions from leading experts around the globe provide varied perspectives, while comprehensive coverage ensures a complete look at this exciting field. Covers the emergence of new viral diseases Provides molecular approaches for virus-host interaction Highlights RNA silencing and counter-defensive strategies Discusses socioeconomic implications of viral spread and mitigation techniques

Book Encyclopedia of Virology

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Virology written by Allan Granoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-07-27 with total page 3737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, progress in the field of virology has advanced at an unprecedented rate. Issues such as AIDS have brought the subject firmly into the public domain and its study is no longer confined solely to specialist groups. The Encyclopedia of Virology is the largest single reference source of current virological knowledge. It is also the first to bring together all aspects of the subject for a wide variety of readers. Unique in its use of concise 'mini-review' articles, the material covers biological, molecular, and medical topics concerning viruses in animals, plants, bacteria, and insects. More general articles focus on the effects of viruses on the immune system, the role of viruses in disease, oncology, gene therapy, and evolution, plus a wide range of related topics. Drawing on the latest research, the editors have produced the definitive source for both specialist and general readers. Easy-to-use and meticulously organized, the Encyclopedia of Virology clarifies and illuminates one of the most complex areas of contemporary study. It will prove an invaluable addition to libraries, universities, medical and nursing schools, and research institutions around the world. The Second Edition has been thoroughly updated with approximately 40 new articles. This edition includes more illustrations and color plates in each volume. Updated thoroughly with approximately 40 new articles Presents more illustrations than the first edition, with color plates in each volume Contains a complete subject index in each volume Provides further reading lists at the end of each entry, allowing easy access to the primary literature Extensive cross-referencing system links all related articles Contains the most recent information of particular viruses described at the 7th International Committee on Taxonomy and Classification of Viruses Provides the ability to search for entries alphabetically or via the taxonomical listings to access articles of different viruses

Book Encyclopedia of Toxicology

Download or read book Encyclopedia of Toxicology written by Philip Wexler and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 3734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Toxicology second edition continues its comprehensive survey of toxicology. This new edition presents entries devoted to specific chemicals, the international scope of organizations included has been broadened, and articles describing a number of well-known toxic-related incidents such as Chernobyl and Three-Mile Island are included. Along with the traditional scientifically-based entries, new articles focus on the societal implications of toxicological knowledge including environmental crimes, chemical and biological warfare in ancient times, and a history of the U.S. environmental movement. With more than 1150 entries, this second edition has been expanded in length, breadth and depth and provides an extensive overview of the many facets of toxicology. (Midwest).
