Download or read book Process Biotechnology written by S. N. Mukhopadhyay and published by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid progress has been made in the discipline of biochemical engineering and biotechnology for bioprocess development during the last 50 years. Process Biotechnology: theory and practice has been written with the consideration that tutorial practice is as important as understanding the subject theoretically. This book is an introductory tutorial book involving multidisciplinary principles. Principal innovations that have been made in biosystem-related developments have been emphasized through tutorials in this book. The first few chapters cover theoretical aspects of biochemical and chemical engineering concerns in biotechnological advances in a concise manner. The rest have been dedicated to the tutorial aspects of this multidisciplinary subject. This book covers biological, ecological, chemical, and biochemical engineering topics related to the subject. It provides much needed theory-based solved numerical problems for practice in quantitative evaluation of various parameters relevant to process biotechnology. It will be useful for students who would like to further their careers as biotechnologists and can be used as a self-study text for practicing engineers, biotechnologists, microbiologists, and scientists involved in bioprocessing research and other related fields.

Book Radioiodination Theory Practice and Biomedical Applications

Download or read book Radioiodination Theory Practice and Biomedical Applications written by Mrinal K. Dewanjee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the readily available -emitting radionuclides, the nuclides of iodine have the greatest versatility in labeling both the hydrophilic and the lipophilic compounds that are used in biology and medicine. Biologically important micrmolecules, semimacromolecules, and macromolecules have been identified which, after iodination, almost maintain the same molecular configuration and similar biologic specificity as those of the parent molecules. The multiple techniques for iodination and the clinical use of iodinated products have made possible the present status of the development of diagnostic nuclear medicine. 125r, with a half-life of 60 days, has a crucial role in competitive protein-binding studies. 131r is useful for measuring thyroid uptake, for the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma and metastasis, and for therapy. 1nr , with a reasonably shorter half-life, is almost ideal for thyroid workup and for a few useful labeled radiopharmaceutical. Although ~c is used more widely in diagnostic procedures, the radionuclides of iodine will always have a major role in biology and medicine. A considerable amount of information is scattered in the literature regarding the chemistry of radioiodination and the mechanism of tracer localization in cells and tissues. Labeled peptides, proteins, and antibodies are extensively used for protein turnover studies, receptor binding and tumor imaging studies, and radioimmunoassay. The general trend in the use of tracers in clinical nuclear medicine has been an evolution from 3H, 14C, 11C, and 13 to 125 , 131 and 123r to ~c and 111rn.

Book Moving From COVID 19 Mathematical Models to Vaccine Design Theory Practice and Experiences

Download or read book Moving From COVID 19 Mathematical Models to Vaccine Design Theory Practice and Experiences written by Andrés Fraguela-Collar and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-05 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compendium represents a set of guides to understanding the challenging scientific, epidemiological, clinical, social, and economic phenomenon that is represented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The book explains the mathematical modeling of COVID-19 infection, with emphasis on traditional epidemiological principles. It represents a rigorous, comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to a complex phenomenon. The chapters take into account the knowledge arising from different disciplines (epidemiology, pathophysiology, immunology, medicine, biology, vaccine development, etc.). It also covers COVID-19 data analysis, giving the reader a perspective of statistics and data science, and includes a discussion about social and economic issues of the pandemic. Each chapter is devoted to a specific topic, and is contributed by experts in epidemiology. Because of its multidisciplinary nature, this book is intended as a reference on mathematical models and basic immunotherapy for COVID-19 for a broad community of readers, from scholars who have scientific training, to general readers who have an interest in the disease.
